Big game Sunday

Good game, the best in the west vs IMO the best in the east. Great game, gonna be at the Joe, i'd like to see them win. Vancouver just beat Philly, so we'll see how the wings can do against them.

I was checking the NHL standings. I noticed that there are 3 teams w/o 10 regulation losses:

Wings (9)

Flyers (9)

Canucks (8)

Detroit plays at the Islanders tomorrow and home for Philly on Sunday.

Detroit SHOULD beat the islanders, but remember when jmac shut them out? ugh.

The Philly game is going to, hopefully, be a blast to watch. Philly plays a different style of hockey, so we'll see if and how the wings adjust to the gritty and deep flyers team. Theoretically, detroit should only have 9 regulation losses going into that one.

Philly just lost to vancouver 6-2, ouch. They play the kings tonight, should be a great game. Then they play the ducks Friday, and of course over to our homeland on Sunday. Theoretically Philly would beat anaheim IMO, but the ducks are also hardnosed, and being the 2nd game of a back to back, could prove tough for them. So really, Philly will probably lose one of their next to games to give them 10 losses heading into Detroit.

Vancouver... these guys are good and i dont think their record (albeit it good) shows how good they really are. As mentioned, they beat the Flyers pretty good Tuesday night. They play dallas tomorrow, who is a good team as well, and they'll have a few days of rest, so they should beat them. Then its off to Colorado on Sunday for them. I really do like the new avs team, young, full of energy, they just need to learn to play defense. So in reality, Vancouver could very well have a 5 game win streak after sunday and be in contention w/ the wings for the final team to lose 10 regulation games.

After that, the rest of Vancouvers games are AT SJ, vs Cal, vs EDM, and then vs Det. They could take a nice lead here if detroit doesnt do something about it.

However... the wings play basically the same teams. After Philly, they go on a huge west coast trip and play EDM, Cal, and then Vancouver.

Go wings!

wings play NYI at home tomorrow.

philly goaltending has been shaky lately, they got a mess of a situation with bobrovsky, boucher, and leighton all playing awful. hopefully we can exploit that.

should be a great game. ill be there as well.

My fear of games against teams like the Flyers and Ducks is that if we are ahead in the last 5 minutes, one of the MANY idiots will take a shot at one of our boys and try to put the hurt on someone.

Unfortunatly, our enforcer Datsyuk is hurt...so who will protect us? :scared:

Ugh, me too. Hahaha, yeah, where's Datsyuk when you need him? I'd at least like to hear him threaten Carcillo with the Perry treatment a little, heh. Seriously, though, I hope Abs and Salei keep an eye on, say, Zetterberg toward the end of the game.

It'll be funny to see how many goals are scored. The Kings just played them, and it was 7-4 Flyers. For some bonehead reason they decided to start Bernier instead of Quick, so it was basically a battle to see whose goalie could suck worse (Bernier let in 6). I definitely think Howard is better than Bernier, and they don't always have offense like that, so I'm not TOO scared about this game, but I'd be surprised if it was low-scoring. The big thing I'm afraid of is injuries. (That figures, I have a bad feeling about the Wild, but I have a not-so-bad feeling about playing the Flyers? I don't even get how my mind works.)

It'll be my first game at the Joe this year since moving back to Detroit from LA a couple weeks ago. Can't wait!!!

And I have a buddy that lives in Atlanta, but is an insane Flyers fan. I'd love to shut his face up for awhile about how good they are.

Canucks beat Dallas tonight 4-1.

Vancouver and Detroit at the top of the league in winning percentage which factors out number of games played:

well, Philly hit the 10 loss mark last night to the ducks. That leaves detroit and vancouver.

I think Vancouver will be the last team to hit 10 regulation losses. of course it helps that they only have 8 :P

they are only 2 points behind us w/ 2 games in hand :(

The vancouver game this month will be ugly with the injuries detroit have, add to that they will be playing on back-to-back nights against flames who always plays detroit hard, and of course in vancouvers barn, 6-4 last time in vancouver will look like a good result compared to the upcoming game against them, for sure.

I absolutely hate seeing posts like that from a rival fan. They f*** with my head. They're black magic and you've just effectively jinxed the Canucks and guaranteed a Detroit win. Now I've got to go cut the head off a live chicken and stab a rat to try and counter it.

Don't worry, he says that before every game, so he's only looking at about a 36% success rate so far.

You just saved the lives of a chicken and a rat.

Anyways, I say this as just as much a compliment to the Wings as an example of tooting the horn of my own team -- but it's damn sweet to be cheering for a team that appears to be just as good as the Wings at this point in the season. The Wings are the gold standard as far as I'm concerned and to be challenging them for first overall is some sweet sauce. When Mike Gillis took over as GM in 2008 (much to the amusement of rival fans everywhere), he began to totally revamp the culture of the Canucks and now it's paying big dividends. The man is a hockey genius. Now we've got to get it done in the playoffs -- and I have a feeling we'll be seeing the Wings there.

What? Atleast you could be hopeful last game when detroit only had modano injured and played at home, it's not very realistic to think the wings could win the next game against vancouver.

I know mindfly is always the devils advocate, but on the same token, the wings can't win every game. I am a more positive wings fan, but every now and then I think they may lose one. The last Vancouver game, I set myself up for a wings loss. They won. For some reason, I thought the isles might win last night. They did. You have to be positive but you must be a realist as well. The Vancouver game will be tough but hope for the best.

Remember Philly will be coming back from the West also.

That I guess could be one little advantage for the wings, philly ain't used to traveling west.

Vancouver is a big game, and you want to take every game seriously, but honestly, if we lose and they tie us with a game in hand, is that the end of the world? We're not even halfway through the season quite yet. Sure, it'd be nice to be way ahead of everyone, but people act like we're suddenly mediocre if they tie us with a game in hand.

No such thing as a big game in January.

A game is a game, and you want to win them all of course, but as long as you're winning more than just about anyone else all is good. Home ice doesn't mean all that much in the NHL.
