It's like pick your poison eh? I think I'd rather play the Yankees, Boston can hit a ton!

It's probably not good to be talking playoffs in early August, but the way the Indians, White Sux, and Twins are playing, it's probably a safe bet.

Well we can never be too sure with our recent late season collapses. I feel more confident that this team will hold on though, considering the circumstances.

Solid outing by JV, Raburn effed up JV's numbers, but another solid effort. On the day that CC tanked, JV tied him in wins and is leading CC in IP, Ks, ERA, and WHIP.

Texas choked today and robbed us of a 5 game lead. Need to get a W tomorrow before the day off and then go to Cleveland to scalp some Indians. booyah

The Tigers have announced the extensions of the contracts of Dave Dombrowski (through 2015) and Jim Leyland (through 2012). Not at all surprised by the extension for Dombrowski, I didn't imagine he'd be going anywhere. Would've preferred to wait on Leyland until the off-season, though.

Guillen kicked that game twice with the bat and once in the field. I would be neutral on him if he brought his bat and was a piss poor defender, but right now he has no bat and is a piss poor defender, which means he is a liability everywhere. You aren't going to get a decent 2B anymore this season, so why not put Santiago there in the interim so at least a few outs and singles will come from the 2b roster spot. Guillen has been a joke of injuries and inconsistency the last 2 or 3 years and it is time to cut ties with him. Magglio and Guillen are going to be updating resumes this offseason.

Guillen offered punch when he first came back, but I see he's like 1-for-this-month. Unacceptable, obviously. It's beyond safe to say that Magglio and Carlito will be gone next season. The Tigers are deep enough at the outfield corners that it shouldn't be an issue to let Magglio simply walk. Obviously, Carlos will have to be replaced - and I'm excited to see who the Tigers pursue in the off-season.

Well, that decision to move JV to the Indians series certainly appears well-timed after the past two nights.

Not a fan at all of the Leyland extension either. If this team somehow blows the Central again, there's no way the old man deserves to be back. Why should another potential second half collapse be rewarded?

Hey, JV throws today. The Tigers have an opportunity to only lose one game to Cleveland in the standings.

Yea I thought going into this series, all we need to do is win the Verlander game and we're fine. This weekend we play Baltimore, we should win at least two of those games. Cleveland maybe in tough against Minnesota.

HUGE win. We really needed that one. JV gets win 17 on the season and 100 for his career and Papa Grande sets a Tigers record with 33 straight saves to open a season. Lead is back to 3 games going on to play the Orioles.

Yes indeed, biggest win of the season so far. Feels a lot better leaving Cleveland up three as opposed to one. Maybe a little payback for the misery at Progressive is in order for the Indians next weekend at Comerica.

Like Pavel Datsyuk, I don't know there are any adjectives left to describe JV. I thought his control was very off tonight and he still had 10 K's and only allowed three hits. If there's any hope for the Tigers in the playoffs, it starts and ends with #35.

Decent article about Verlander's magical season. I'm glad C.C. wasn't mentioned, because Verlander and Weaver are way ahead of him IMO and I believe Verlander is ahead of Weaver. People keep pointing to Weaver's ERA, which is fine and all considering it's almost a full point lower and is an important stat, but across the board Verlander is 1st in every category. Not to mention 1 no-hitter, and 2 other no-hitters going into the 8th (which the one could have been a perfect game :( ).

I agree. In the future we might even be able to throw Suh in there as well. These players are staples in these teams' success.

I like winning and all, but it would be good for every Tiger's fan heart if we would open up a sizable lead in a game once in a while. I dunno how many more 1 run heart attacks I can take.

Glad they won, but it's time to end Brad Penny's tenure in the rotation. He was an adequate starter for a stretch, but he's getting bombed lately.

Nice night for Dirks and Betemit too. I'm a huge Maggs fan, but it seems like the Tigers would be better suited starting Dirks every day when Boesch comes back. A number three hitter with no power, a low batting average and terrible outfield range isn't really an ideal situation.

Yeah, I fully expect to see Jackson, Dirks, and Boesch at the top of the order when Brennan returns. Magglio can split DH time with Martinez and should bat below Alex Avila, to be perfectly honest.
