Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Lidstrom's plus minus I don't think reflects his poorer defensive play, it seems like it's his line-mates on the ice who make the mistakes. I haven't seen a goal this season where you could say "Lidstrom's fault". Once somebody brought up Lidstrom's horrible +/- I started paying attention to whether he was on the ice for goals scored against us and its usually some freak thing where one player breaks down defensively or some crazy bounce occurs and Lidstrom just happened to be on the ice covering his man when it happened. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Anyone know what the worst plus/minus is for any Norris winner? Seems like every year it's someone with a relatively good plus/minus.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 Anyone know what the worst plus/minus is for any Norris winner? Seems like every year it's someone with a relatively good plus/minus. The worst belongs to Randy Carlyle at -16, though it's quite the outlier. Runner up is Rob Blake with a -3. Lidstrom has won the Norris with the fifth lowest all-time plus/minus with a +9 in 2001. It's not the only thing they look at, but if Nick had a higher plus/minus, say a +10, no one would be currently advocating anyone else winning the Norris over him at the halfway point. He needs to bring that up to ensure his 7th Norris win.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted January 14, 2011 This system obviously makes sense. Clearly, the players Lidstrom plays against are 20 times better than those Martin plays against. This is because Martin plays a game with his kids every day, so the average skill level he faces drops dramatically. Lidstrom, more than any other defenseman in the league, neglects his kids significantly.
