Babs cant seem to get them right so what do you guys think?

Homer is useless without skill players

Huds is useless without dats

Flip needs a big body to help him

Bert and Mule are majorly streaky

huds dats cleary

modano Z homer

mule flip bert

typical 4th line

Top 3 line right wingers are interchangeable.

Would never happen but that seems like everyone would have a chance of being useful.

I would switch Modano and Mule. Mo hasn't done anything to prove he can be useful on a scoring line.

I agree with you about that first line though, to me that is a no brainer based on how well they were doing. Really surprised they aren't back together. Keeping that line intact still allows for plenty of successful combos on the other lines.

On the other hand, being a bit of a Helmer homer, I wouldn't mind him seeing some more minutes playing on a higher line. He is one of the few players who has earned it.

I took note of your "typical 4th" comment. These 4 or 5 guys have been getting us a lot of unexpected points lately....and I'm most definetly a Helmer homer too.

How 'bout we try, just for once Cleary, Helm , Bertuzzi on the 3rd.

So it would look something like this:

ZDH

Hudler,Flip,Mule

Cleary,Helm, Bertuzzi

Mo (because he has to play) Draper, Abby/Miller/Eaves

We need to split up Zetterberg and Datsyuk though for the better of all lines.

Hudler-Datsyuk-Homer

Mule-Zetterberg-Cleary

Flip-Modano-Bertuzzi

Draper-Helm-Eaves/Abby/Miller

Zetterberg and Datsyuk will be paired together at home and split up on the road due to last change and for the better of all lines. I'd like to be a coach too but the guy with the magnificent hair makes the choices. blueadams is better at these anyway.

helm is the s*** and i think he should be 2nd line the way he's playing...depending on if first line is dats or Z...

hudler - dats - cleary (that line is badass together)

helm - Z - flip (helm could get Z and flip going and this line could put up points)

homer - franzen - bert (franzen used to be centre. he's been useless for 17 games, make him skate)

I like all 3 of these lines, Hudler/Datsyuk/Cleary found instant chemistry and played great while we were missing forwards, no reason to believe they would not click again. Z & Flip could benefit from Helm's speed on their line, especially Flip as his wheels are obviously not back to 100%. Franzen's offense is too valuable to sit if he is healthy, but having him play center and forcing him to skate more per shift could be enough to piss him off.

That leaves Abdelkader, Draper, Eaves, Miller, and Modano to form a line with. Eaves deserves to stay in the lineup once he is healthy, Miller seems to respond well to being on rotation, and I'm pretty sure that we didn't bring Modano in to ride pine, so perhaps we could go with Eaves-Modano-Draper, with Miller and Abdelkader rotating in for Draper.

Edit: Something just occurred to me, Helm/Zetterberg/Filppula would be one heck of a shut-down line come playoff time.

It's impossible to put together line combos, without worrying about who's lazy or soft. We have too many players on this team that are one or the other. Some are both.

Too many floaters in the lineup right now, hence every line would have a glaring problem. These players need to step up and actually care every game, because matching lines around isn't going to magically make them care. Has to come from within.

I really like the way Pavel plays with Mule. Hank and Cleary are always good together....

Franzen-Datsyuk-Filpula

Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Cleary

Abdelkader-Modano- Hudler

Eaves-Helm- Homer

Lidstrom- Rafalski

Ericsson-Kronwall

Stuart-Salei

Kindl

Howard Osgood

Helm could get Flip and Z going? I'm a big Helm fan but IMO he is not a second line player right now. The line would work well, but so would putting anyone with Flip and Z. Your third like would be a 'the third line is lazy and sucks' thread after the first shift. They are all slower and not great defensively.

Lidstrom- Rafalski

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Ericsson-Kronwall

Kindl

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Kronwall-Stuart

Kindl-Salei

I got nothing against Ericsson. On paper it seems like a good idea.

Sucks though that Kronwall and Ericsson are really used to playing the left side and seem to struggle when forced to play on the right.

I thought Helm was having a subpar season, defensively. I remember reading that scoring that big goal in Phoenix was not an excuse for his -2 effort.

the guy is +10 this season in +/-.......about fourth highest on the team.......pretty good I'd say considering the role he's been given.

Pretty much agree with the above poster, but I'd put Ericsson with Lidstrom, that line shined quite well late in the 2009 playoffs. Rafalski and Kindl have been good for the most part, I don't see any reason why to feel uncomfortable with him and Salei on the 3rd pair either (assuming Kindl is the odd man out on defense eventually). Even though a lot of people are generally down on Big Rig sometimes (as am I off and on), I just don't seem him getting scratched. And even though he stunk last game, there's not much reason to suggest Howard not starting in the playoffs.

On the power play I'd go ZDH-Lidstrom-Rafalski to start, then any form of Franzen, Bertuzzi, Flipper, and Cleary/Hudler with Kronwall-Modano.
