GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Minnesota. Only team in the West we haven't faced in the last decade in the playoffs. Also, we seem to suck against everyone else this year. Edited March 16, 2011 by GMRwings1983
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 We've overcome plenty of challenges in the past, I want an easy road this time. Give me Edmonton in the first round. Somehow draw Ottawa in the 2nd. Take out the Avs in the WCFs, setting up an epic Finals matchup with the Islanders. Winning!
zombi 43 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 San Jose is the only team I'm scared to play. They just always seems to get all of the calls/bounces when we play them.
BigWillieStyle 662 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 I want an easy road this time. Like 2008 was? Give me Edmonton in the first round. That didn't work out too well last time, if i recall. I think we're best playing Chicago in the first round. It's an easy travel schedule, plus i feel, other than maybe Minnesota, that they are the least physical team in the western race. Not getting pounded on for one round will be big for a long run. I also think it gives a team a little bit of swagger if they knock off the reigning champs. Maybe Dallas can do the leg work for us again, and take out LA and The Sharts, only to be too gassed to give us much of a fight. Whoever we play, i hope we show up to play against them like we mean it.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 17, 2011 I have a strict "Don't Pick Your Poison" rule for playoffs. However, I genuinely fear for matchups against San Jose and Vancouver. Vancouver, even with their history of choking, has just been too good to completely dismiss this year. San Jose just seems to have Detroit's number. Chicago scares me, too, but for a different reason. I feel like we could beat them, even rather easily, but the WIngs have had such terrible luck and I'd hate for them to upset us and then have to deal with their rabid fans. I get San Jose, but how are the Canucks chokers? Haven't lost to a team with fewer points in about 8 years and when the team barely resembled what it is now. Isn't a team that chokes one that loses to a team that's perceived to be weaker?
WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted March 18, 2011 As much as I would want to play the Stars(ex gf parents live in Dallas)....I had a dream that we played Chicago and Hossa beat us in OT in Detroit in Game 7. I woke up in a cold sweat and angry as hell! I think we end up drawing the Hawks but I'm hoping for Stars.

I guess I'm referring more to Luongo's history of not playing too well in the playoffs, moreso than the team. But they "choke" in the sense that every year they are a favorite to win the Cup and when was the last time they made Conference finals?

But they "choke" in the sense that every year they are a favorite to win the Cup and when was the last time they made Conference finals? Not sure if they've ever been a legitimate favourite until this year. And while they were an improved team the previous two seasons, they still took a back seat to Detroit, San Jose and Pittsburgh -- and to Chicago in the opinion of a lot of people. Luongo's struggled against Chicago for sure, particularly in game 6 against the Hawks 2 years ago. Last year was more a game 6 team collapse with our D dropping like flies. People forget how banged up our D was last year. Personally, even before that game started I thought we didn't have much of a chance. But that's exactly why Gillis went out and got Ballard and Hamhuis in the off-season. Been wondering a lot lately what the chances are that the Wings and Canucks meet in the conference finals. That would be a tough match-up for either team. Edited March 18, 2011 by Chairman Maouth
PredsFanTheBayouState 263 Report post Posted March 18, 2011 dont wanna play the preds to boaring if nashville makes the playoffs,i would rather the preds not play the wings only because the preds already face ya'll guys twice in the past playoffs and lost both times. nashville is not boring in the playoffs, they almost beat the stanley cups champs chicago blackhawks in round one of the 2010 playoffs,if it weren't for the preds breakdown in game 5,the preds might of beat the hawks. Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 San Jose wouldn't be fun. They're a pretty gritty team and the travel wouldn't be benficiary to us.
GoOzzieGo 22 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 I'm liking how things are shaping up right now with us in the #2 slot going up against Chicago in the #7. Nashville is only a point or so out of the #8 slot behind Calgary and have a couple of games in hand. I think they could give Vancouver a nice drawn out series which could help us out in the long run due to the travel schedule Vancouver would be facing early. For Chicago, Crawford is an unknown playoff performer....maybe he seizes the moment, maybe he falters. I like our chances.
blgillett 48 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 I'd hate to play San Jose and Dallas in the first round I would love to play Dallas in the first round. The two teams i don't want to play is the Flames & Ducks not that we wouldn't beat them but they love to beat up on players :!:
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 I don't want to see alot of travel or a hot goaltender so here are the possibilities Nashville Chicago Minnesota Calgary Dallas Phoenix LA Anaheim I don't think that Minny will make it. Nashville has a very good goalie and Phoenix, LA and Anaheim are too much travel so I'll take Chicago, Calgary or Dallas. Chicago doesn't scare me since they have about the same team that they had in '08 when we crushed them plus the guy that doesn't show up in the playoffs. San Jose wouldn't be fun. They're a pretty gritty team and the travel wouldn't be benficiary to us. Unless San Jose collapses in the last 11 games, we can't play them in the first round because they will most likely be ranked #3.

nate94gt 134 Report post Posted March 19, 2011 out of the choices as of today, our opponents could be Calgary Chicago Dallas LA Phoenix San Jose Nashville Anaheim Minnesota Who i would want to play: Calgary Chicago LA Phoenix Minnesota Anaheim Putting travel into the equation, I would want to play Chicago Minnesota I would NOT want to play: Dallas Nashville San Jose Either way, just make the playoffs and win win win!!!!!!!! Those teams havent been kind to us this year.

ricky0034 89 Report post Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) more than any other team I want the Wings to play Chicago more than any other team I want the Wings to avoid Nashville Unless San Jose collapses in the last 11 games, we can't play them in the first round because they will most likely be ranked #3. Phoenix is only 3 points behind them with 9 games left in the season,3 of which are against the Sharks but yeah even though they could maybe lose their division they would definitely have to collapse quite a bit for them to fall to 6th or 7th for the Wings to face in the first round Edited March 20, 2011 by ricky0034

I was actually hoping for San Jose, but wouldn't mind Vancouver. Too bad one's impossible in the first round and other seems like too long of a shot.
