I have to agree. The Franzen call on a lift of the stick around the hands and the goalie interference calls I disagree with, but the others are no brainer calls to me. The Wings need to pick it up in the 3rd.

I am still looking for the boarding call franzen received.

Exactly. WIngs are lucky to be up 2-1. Yet, if Helm had an NHL calibre pair of hands, we could up 3-0.

Datsyuk has been anonymous, we're losing every battle along the boards and every race to the puck. JMac is keeping our heads above water right now.

Can't disagree with any of that. Even when the Wings have the puck it's incredible how every play they make has it bouncing off sticks and to San Jose players.

Anyone else just sick and tired of Thornton?

Yep, for a couple years now. It seems like he's ALWAYS whining about something, at least when he's not busy throwing cheap shots after the whistle. He's a disgrace, the absolute opposite of Lids as a captain.

Agreed here too. They just cannot get away with sloppy passes and puck handling against the Sharks, and that's all they're bringing. Has to tighten up if they want to close this out.

Joey has been their best player today.

I don't really know what to say about this game.

Play-wise, its a good game from both teams. But as far as officiating goes, its an example of the reason so many long time NHL fans think that the NHL these days is a complete joke.

Its also an example of why I hate watching nationally broadcast NHL games, becasue you are guaranteed to see a bunch of questionable calls (and even more questionable non-calls) that seem to be for only one purpose; to keep the game as close and "exciting" as possible. Its like the refs in the nationally broadcast games are under strict orders from the NHL to keep the games within a goal and make sure they make calls (and ignore other calls) to guarantee the game stays as close as possible.

It probably never happened.

I wholeheartedly believe the same. Not a conspiracy against the wings, but just an NHL mandate in general. They dont have to come out and tell refs explicitly to do this, they can send memos out stating "We want the games as exciting as possible" and it's an implicit and untraceable order to call games like that.

I hate it. It penalizes the better team. IF a team is good enough to win a game 6-0 objectively, they likely get 4-5 more calls against them making it much harder to win. The better teams get screwed. Then the league commentators just blow it off as "breaks of the game". BULLs***.

I'm still confused about the SJ goal. Thornton touched it above the net, shouldn't the play have been blown dead right there? Even if the goal was permitted, shouldn't the review have disallowed it for that reason, even if the puck touched Abby's stick before going in?
