Hey, I didn't realize Mikael Samuelsson is a UFA! You don't suppose that's what Kenny is plotting? (ducking)

But why would Anaheim or Columbus?

Trades take two teams.

Anaheim likes Filppula, he would come in, be #2 center with Selanne on his wing. Filppula, Quincey, Mursak, 2nd for Ryan, Schultz.

Columbus, nah, I just used Nash as another example...

nobody is guaranteed through FA. we may be sitting with all our AWESOME cap space at the beginning of the next season.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed. However, the Red Wings have two components necessary to make a splash in free agency: money and a desirable destination. The Red Wings are in a good position right now and the front office definitely knows what is at stake this summer. At least give Holland a chance to improve the team.

I don't think SMith would have to be included....I'd say goodbye to Filppula, Mursak, Quincey, 2nd...for Ryan and Schultz... be sad to see Filppula go, but this is Bobby Ryan...

The Ducks defense has no depth. I can't say for certain, but I would be quite confident that any deal for Bobby Ryan would absolutely have to include Smith. Mursak has nearly no value; Quincey for better or worse is going to get re-signed. Anaheim doesn't have to move Ryan, so any deal for him is going to have to really be worthwhile.

even with those two guys we are like 3-4 years away from z and dats being old. I'm scared. who will replace them?

Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Jarncrok, Pulkkinen, Sheahan.

collberg still there...

Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Jarncrok, Pulkkinen, Sheahan.

2 of those guys are centres. and sheahan isn't even close to the talent of z or dats

So would you do that deal if your a Anaheim fan? Ryan is younger and more productive than Flippula, Quincey had a disappointing season last year, and Mursak is coming off a huge injury and has never proved to be an effective NHL player for a extended period of time.

The team getting the better player usually has to overpay unless the other GM is Burke, and with that deal we just aren't.

Bottom line...90's Wings weren't put over the top until they TRADED for Brendan Shanahan. 00's Wings weren't put over the top until they TRADED for Domink Hasek. Drafting and UFA gets you pretty far, but sometimes you have to make that impact trade...Bobby Ryan would be an acquisition that would be on par with Shanny and Dom... Let's make the 10's Wings over the top with a ball busting TRADE & some nice UFA's pick up's...

Your right better get rid of them just because we will be loaded up down the middle exactly like we have been for the last decade. And Sheahan will be very important depth in the future. Without guys like that opponents will just shut down our top line.

no doubt. teams need to get fleeced in trades for one to get better. its not often that a trade turns out AMAZING for both teams. dog eat dog. holland just refuses to play with the dogs.

And I'm assuming you are referring to Sheahan and Pulkinnen? Nyquist is ready to make the jump now, and Tatar shortly after. Jarnkrok is getting a lot of praise and will only be 2 years out and Jurco could be up as early as next year... the guys is pretty damn good.

I'm not concerned about guys coming in and taking the reigns, and we'll add players along the way via UFA. Just because Holland doesn't make a splash right now, doesn't signal the beginning of the end. A lot of people need to chill out.

I agree with what you are saying, but the fans don't make the trades...If I had to throw a prospect like Tatar in there I would. I know Mursak didn't prove anything, I am getting rid of him and Emmerton both anyhow, so it doesn't matter where they go, just draft picks in return would be fine for them...it would just be so exciting to see Holland actually make a splash like that though! He has plenty of time before the season starts, but we are all so excited for the changes/upgrades to happen...

okay so aside from Jarnkrok, who is our next no.1 centre? people rate iron hook as a 2nd line centre. Sheahan has shown nothing more than a 3rd line Centre at best so far.

Please just stop assuming things.... you're just coming off stupid. It takes two to tango, and If the Wings don't necessarily have the same pieces that other teams would offer, then no deal will get done. To think that Holland is not playing right now, is asinine. He enjoys his job, I'm sure he wants to keep it.

Chill!

Why do you bring up non-centers. Nyquist, Pulkinnen, Jurco are wingers. I'm concerned about our centre position. Not often can you trade for a big first line centre. You DRAFT those. Unless you are luckily like the canes.

Unless Sheahan makes huge strides this upcoming season in GR, Jarnkrok is our best option from our crop... But I highly doubt, in the time it'll take to need that replacement, that we won't draft someone or trade/sign someone of significant stature as a bonafide #1 center.

Bobby Ryan was a second overall pick. 4 straight 30 goal seasons. He is 25 years old. Do any of these prospects have that kind of a start in them? Or are we guessing? I don't like guessing. He is signed, we know his cap number, it's all right there. You know what you're getting, you know where to slot him, he can start Game One and finish Game 82 for the next 10 years if you want. That's what we need...in MY opinion. NHL stud talent, not maybes. Do it before the Leafs or Rangers or Flyers or some other team gets it done.

okay, i just wanted to point that out. there were some options that slid late like grigorenko and faksa that would have fit the bill. with how long the wings spend developing their kids, it feels like they need the kid now, as he won't be up until our top guns are old. thats why i'm worried.

Yes, I completely agree with you, but it takes two teams to make a deal happen. If Anaheim doesn't like what pieces we have to offer, then no deal... and that is not a stretch to imagine that could be the case. You also don't know how serious they are about trading him. They could just be kicking the tires to see what's out there.

Did Holland and management team even bother to show up at draft center today or will they show up tomorrow?

Ya, don't think they were even there...they will be there tomorrow for sure, hopefully Holland get dirty tomorrow!

The problem I have with these draftees is that MAYBE we'll see them in the bigs in 4-5 years. That's how the Wings work. Other teams have a much faster rotation. It's a blessing and a curse.

What players were drafted with the 2 first round picks (and Anders Eriksson) we gave up to get Chelios? I don't know. But I know he played here for nine seasons and helped us win 2 cups. Who knows if those picks ever even made it to the NHL?

I agree, it's time to be aggressive. Time to sit back is over...if you can make this deal, then make it. Include Abby for all I care. This is Bobby Ryan...

Steve McCarthy and Adam Munro.....so ya...pretty much just Eriksson for Chelios in the end...
