Wingzman91 134 Report post Posted November 22, 2012 If it is anything like last lockout, it will be a weighted system. Every team is given 3 lottery balls. You lose a ball for every year you have been in the playoffs in the last 3 years. You lose a ball for time you have had the #1 draft pick in the last 4 years. No team can have less than 1 ball. ---------------------------------------------------- Columbus will have 5 balls in the lottery, they have the Kings and Rangers ball and a 10% chance to get the #1 pick. Three balls: Flames, Hurricanes, Jets, Maple Leafs, Stars, & Wild. Two balls: Avalanche, Blues, Ducks, Islanders, Lightning, & Panthers. One ball: Blackhawks, Bruins, Canadiens, Canucks, Capitals, Coyotes, Devils, Flyers, Oilers, Penguins, Predators, Red Wings, Sabres, Senators, Sharks. ---------------------------------------------------- Every slot is drawn, 1 thru 30 then the order reverses, round 2 is 30 thru 1, round 3 is 1 thru 30 and so on. Last time the first one ball team that got picked was the Canadiens, 5th pick. Red Wings got #19. With a little luck we could have prospect, not a project. ...or they could sign a CBA tomorrow. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted November 23, 2012 Midget will make sure that the Oilers are getting the fourth overall in a row. Usually no season should mean all 30 teams are having an equal chance for the first overall, but well not in gary's world.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted November 23, 2012 Traded for them. I could be wrong here but the way I understand it, Columbus traded for two of their first round picks not their draft lottery balls... So the Kings and Rangers would keep their lottery balls and when each of their names are called their first pick would go to Columbus. I know it wouldn't effect LA or NY for the first round but it would effect the order in the later rounds of the draft... Axe, you could be dead on with what you said here but if you know this for sure can you attach a link with the information.. Thanks.

They traded for the first round picks.... but "draft balls" determine when those picks are in this scenario. If for example, the flames traded the canes for their first round draft pick, they would have 6 draft balls in the lotto technically speaking and therefore a better chance at a first overall pick. The two draft balls still belong to LA and NY but since CBus has their first round picks, they still has a 5 in 50 chance of getting the first overall pick. 1 Wingzman91 reacted to this

MabusIncarnate 5,344 Report post Posted November 24, 2012 I almost spit out barley pop when I read that... What the hell is barley pop?! I wish they actually used the term "balls" in trades, it's catchier than "pick". "Columbus trades Rick Nash to New York for their first and second balls." Even a Jackets fan can't be upset when reading that. 1 Wings3:16 reacted to this

achildr1 255 Report post Posted November 26, 2012 It's all a big joke to me now...I would be shocked if the Wings picked higher than 25th and one of Phoenix or Edmonton didn't get the first pick. So when it boils down, other teams have more balls than the Wings.... No surprise...
