I think it's a great signing. Has anyone seen Alfredsson not bring it? He's a competitor. Vinny doesn't if he doesn't want to. Alfredsson f***in brings it, every game. That's not a stat. He wants to win.

I am happy that we should have some cap space for next year. Next years free agent class is light years better than this years!

Cool, he's old but hungry and a righty. Does the bonus count against the cap? Maybe he can convince Lidstrom to comeback. ;)

Alfredsson called Datsyuk and Zetterberg the best two-way players in the game and said Detroit's puck-possession style appealed to him.

“I feel that’s the strength of my game, playing a two-way game,'' Alfredsson said. “I love watching (Datsyuk and Zetterberg) and the whole team play with or without the puck because they do so many good things, little things that many people can’t pick up. They perform extremely well under pressure and in important situations.

“In talking to Henrik, he hadn’t made up his mind who I was going to play with yet. No, I’m just kidding. It’s obviously going to be (coach Mike) Babcock’s decision. He was just happy that I was able to join as a right-handed shot. For me, playing even with Stephen, as a left-handed player, should open up a lot of chances for me.''

Okay, I like him. :)

I wonder if Flip would have taken a contract like this, assorted with bonuses or if he demanded garanteed money.. Otherwise I think I would have chosen him, given his age...

At this point in time, how does Alf's foot speed and pace compare to Iginla's? Be objective gawl ding it!

I haven't seen too much of Alf lately, But Iginla looked slow in the playoffs.

From Ottawa Citizen:

“I’m not worried about my legacy in Ottawa,” Alfredsson said in a conference call Friday following his shocking decision to leave the only NHL team he had known during his 17-year career, in pursuit of a Stanley Cup with the Detroit. “I suspect there will be anger from fans and there should be and I thought that question through, as well.”
Murray’s attempted to talk Alfredsson out of the decision. The Senators general manager promised him the moon and more to stay, discussed possible trades and also debated whether the Senators were so far behind the league’s perceived front-runners. After all was said and done, he admits to having a restless night, knowing the organization would never be quite the same way again.

I thought GM's were told not to negotiate the way Murray did.
