michigan2014 6 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/68251/who-will-be-the-next-captain-for-ottawa-and-dallas-and-tampa-bay-and-columbus-and-edmonton-and-new-york-and-buffalo-and-calgary My predictions for the eight vacancies: NY Islanders: Tavares. DUH Dallas: Jamie Benn Ottawa: Jason Spezza Buffalo: Tyler Myers Columbus: RJ Umberger Calgary: Jiri Hudler Tampa Bay: Steven Stamkos Edmonton: Taylor Hall I'm completely joking about Calgary. It will probably remain empty. That franchise is on a sad path. Too bad we can't beat them. Who do you guys think will fill the empty captain vacancies? GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 Islanders - Tavares Dallas - Robidas Ottawa - Phillips Columbus - Dubinsky Calgary - Giordano Buffalo - Stafford Tampa - St Louis Edmonton - Hall Not sure about a lot of these. Many depend on whether the team rewards seniority, or wishes to make some younger player captain for the future.

DUH Dallas: Jamie Benn Ottawa: Jason Spezza Buffalo: Tyler Myers (benched all season) Vanek Columbus: RJ Umberger or Gaborik Calgary: Jiri Hudler cause the Flames have no captain material... Tampa Bay: Steven Stamkos Edmonton: Taylor Hall Eberle dude.... I'm completely joking about Calgary. It will probably remain empty. That franchise is on a sad path. Too bad we can't beat them. Who do you guys think will fill the empty captain vacancies? I added to yours. I'd go with the clutch kid Eberle all the way.

I just know they're a young team, but I don't know what goes on behind closed doors (no I didn't watch that Oil Change show on NHLN ) Maybe he is a bad leader. MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 (edited) Jiri Hudler? That's a joke right? Assuming he said in his original post "I'm completely joking about Calgary" i'd assume so. I think Tyutin will get a look in Columbus, other than that I agree with most of the other here. I think Wideman or Cammalleri realistically for Calgary but who knows with that squad. Agreed however Wideman over Cammalleri in Calgary. I thought Feaster was shopping Cammalleri? I guess it wouldn't surprise me if Mike ends up captain cause yes it's a mess in Calgary.... St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 I like Yakupov in Edmonton For next season? Highly doubt it.
MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 I would have said Whitney for Edmonton before this last season of getting benched and being the root of trade deadline discussion out of that team. I'd tend to think Smid, Hemsky or Smyth because of their veteran status but I also seem to lean in the direction of team captains being seasoned players. I don't think Yakupov would be a consideration this year.

McAwesome 754 Report post Posted July 12, 2013 NY Islanders - Tavares, no-brainer Dallas - Benn, also a no-brainer Ottawa - Karlsson would be my pick, but wouldn't be surprised if it is Spezza Buffalo - Ville Leino (j/k probably Stafford or Ehrhoff) Columbus - JMFJ or Dubinsky Calgary - Giordano Tampa - St. Louis, with Stamkos being the obvious successor when Marty retires Edmonton - Eberle 1 Z Winged Dangler reacted to this

I thought that may have been a joke as well lol. NYI - JT DAL - Benn OTT - Spezza BUF - Stafford (maybe Vanek to try and keep him around?) CBJ - Johnson (goin off the board) CGY - Giordano TBL - Tough call between St. Louis and Stamkos, do you give it to the guy who's been there through it all or your superstar? I'll go St. Louis I guess EDM - I honestly could see them going a while without naming a captain like Colorado did for a bit.

Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 12, 2013 At this point, Tyler Myers will not be captain of anything. He is in the midst of a sophomore slump that has now lasted for three seasons.

kylee 727 Report post Posted July 15, 2013 (edited) Rj Umberger should be the Blue Jackets captain...he's the closest thing they have to a "face" of the franchise as he has played for them for nearly his entire career and signed a long term extension. Jiri Hudler is probably the best player that the Flames have right now. Not hating on him, but that says a lot. Edited July 15, 2013 by kylee
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted July 15, 2013 I'd be on board with Huds as the Flames captain just to watch the interviews and press conferences. Comedy gold right there, folks. 1 amato reacted to this
