TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 Congrats to the prospects. Wonder how centcougar likes the result. It looks like our young guns in the system are gelling nicely. Once the next wave hits the NHL, part of me pictures Ken Holland turning to Babcock, lighting a cigar, smirking, and saying a la Hannibal Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together." as they continue to light it up. First a Calder Cup, now the prospect tourney win, the future of the team seems bright enough to make you want to wear shades.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 The best part about this tournament's outcome? Our best prospect (Jarnkrok) had, I believe, zero points across all four games - and still we dominated. (That's not an anti-Jarnkrok sentiment.)
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 The best part about this tournament's outcome? Our best prospect (Jarnkrok) had, I believe, zero points across all four games - and still we dominated. (That's not an anti-Jarnkrok sentiment.) That's a great point, and I look at it as a testament to the overall depth and balance of our prospect pool. There are lots of areas where they are starting to show signs of potential synergy causing the whole to end up being greater than the sum of its parts. If I recall correctly, during the Cup years the Wings had quite a few players reach double digits in the goal column. With that kind of depth, even if a "star" has a slump or is shut down due to the opposition keying on him (as you could consider Jarnkrok in this tourney), there is plenty of firepower to give the defense fits. I'm stoked to see how these guys end up fitting into the big club in the future. 1 Dabura reacted to this

Our best prospect (Jarnkrok) had, I believe, zero points across all four games - and still we dominated. (That's not an anti-Jarnkrok sentiment.) Jarnkrok was our best prospect up to the point of Mantha being drafted. That is not just my opinion btw. I would not be surprised to see him in GR at some point this year. wingedominance13 112 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 Iron Hook was extremely sound defensively/positionally all four games though. While he didnt contribute a ton offensively, for someone who has played less than 15 games on NA Ice its good to see how sound he is. Mantha and Frk played on his wings and both of them succeeded through the tournament, alot of this was because they didnt have to worry about being caught in the O zone because Iron Hook was covering them. IMO (this is not to say that I'm not ecstatic about Mantha and Frk cuz I think they can be legit scorers one day)
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 In addition to how good Athanasiou looked, I'm really stoked hearing how Sheahan & Jurco really stepped into leadership roles with the team. Really looking forward to what those 2 & Pulkkinen can do if they get the opportunity to continue building on the chemistry they developed in TC.
Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 Don't get me wrong, wingedominance - I'm extremely happy we have Jarnkrok in the pipeline. That observation was in no way a shot at him. Scott gets it! As for how he stacks up against Mantha - I'll take Jarnkrok seven days of the week. He's Zetterberg/Datsyuk 2.0. Not sure it's really fair to compare them, though, as they're very, very different players. (And that's a good thing!) Man. Our pool has never been this deep. It's almost silly. 1 wingedominance13 reacted to this
Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) SlapshotGoal from WIIM believes Jarnkrok was taunting his opposing centers. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/9/10/4713988/nhl-prospect-tournament-detroit-beats-buffalo-4-2 I do believe Calle Jarnkrok was taunting his opposing centermen in the faceoff circles. I couldn't hear him, but I saw his lips moving and he was looking at the other centerman and tapping his stick on the ice. If looked so strange coming from him, but I loved it. I just imagine him saying very quietly while tapping the ice "see here, this is where I'm gong to take the puck from you, *tap* Tap* right here...You're not even gonna touch it... It's mine..." Love it. So this is now a Prospects Tournament/Prospects/Jarnkrok Is Awesome (And So Is Mantha) thread. Edited September 10, 2013 by Dabura

So this is now a Prospects Tournament/Prospects/Jarnkrok Is Awesome (And So Is Mantha) thread. I feel like this is something Datsyuk would do, just in his head instead of out loud. I like it a little spunk, maybe a touch of nasty coming through the ranks.
