Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 I know under the surface of this question is biting pessimism and my hate of Dan Cleary and his stupid contract. I know there is really no choice in the real world since Fedorov is tied to his team in Russia and Cleary is ANCHORED to the Wings. But honestly, knowing that Fedorov is well past his prime and likely a waste of a roster spot that should rightly go to an up-and-coming Griffin, I think he would provide more defensive responsibility and a strong point shot for the second PP unit which would outweigh anything that Cleary currently brings to the team. My vote goes to Fedorov.

EDIT: Too bad Cleary isn't currently in the midst of a "contract dispute" that would keep him out for half the season... RedWang 422 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 In the hypotheical world from which this question hails, I'd take literally anyone over Dano at this point. Honestly im not doubting we'll see far better play from the dinosaurs at the Alumni game than we've seen from Cleary all season. 3 CaliforniaWingsFan, LeftWinger and DatsyukianDekes reacted to this
The Greek 323 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 Basically, you're asking who is a better hockey player, at this moment. I would have to say Feds. He is the best skater I've ever seen. Even at his age, I'd say he's easily an average skater by NHL standards. Additionally, Feds has a far higher hockey IQ than cleary.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Seriously I'd pick Cleary, as much as I want to vomit saying that. Its not that I doubt Fedorov's skill set or his hockey IQ. I'm more worried whether he's physically able to play in the NHL. It's been a couple seasons since he's played in the KHL, and more than a couple since the NHL. He's also a couple weeks away from being 44. I don't care how skilled you are, when you're that age and haven't played in a while, its tough to get the body up to form. I see this 2 year contract and all I can think is Sammy, where in the 1st year he spends the entire season injured, and the second year (now age 45) if he's miraculously not injured, he's not effective enough to warrant being on the team. This year Cleary has been abysmal at generating and capitalizing on chances, but he's still a +1, so at the very least he neutralizes the game for both teams on the ice. Its also a 1 year contract which means next year I'll have the cap-space for someone else entirely. LeftWinger 4,963 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 Fedorov would be no more of a waste of a roster spot that Cleary or Sammy for that matter are right now. So, given a choice, if I am going to waste a roster spot, I'd rather give it to the best Russian to ever pay the game, who isn't really THAT old anyhow, than to a broke down, hunk of crap that needed to retire years ago. Cleary has been useless for at least three years...Sammy, while we all know why he was signed, has been a hunk of crap too...

PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 Apparently Feds never made his KHL comeback so it seems he's not even in shape enough for that lesser league. But.....Feds is my all-time favourite so I'll say yea 91 nea 71.

Guest DeGraa55 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 Feds without hesitation. I'd take cheli over cleary at this point. Or s*** even yzerman. I think I could could down to some beer league game and find at least 10 guys over cleary. Least they might fight...and cost less.

And with every obsessive new post here hating a Red Wings player, Wings fans take a step closer to Philly. Congratulations.
