Are we all on board that coaching and goaltending is our biggest weaknesses yet? Or is that still up for debate?

Nathan must have given him the OK

I liked how he put a buncha of place mats underneath the cup. Don't want that POS cup full of beer leaving rings on his nice oak table.

Don't try to 'rider' your coaching stuff onto my goalie stuff. It's a 1A goalie problem all the way.

Husso could not collectively out-goalie Balckwood and Kappo Kakko 2nite. That is the main problem.

What does Derek do... good?

Goals mostly

Offense is by far the least coachable thing.

I know he is still newish, and ya'll want the honey moon to continue, but after Blash I find it strange that ya'll willingly ignore the glaringly obvious coaching problems with this team.

I said it last game, and I'll say it again: Just like with Zadina, the warning signs are all present, but new guy good so we ignore. If this was Blash in his 8th season right now the narrative would be a whole lot different. In my world you don't get brownie points just for being new.

I do think this is a good team. I do think this is a playoff team (that probably exits in the 1st or 2nd - barring luck). And I do think 1A goalie is huge concern at the moment. But coaching is the VERY obvious #2 problem.

We got what we deserved - and, hopefully, a lesson we'll take to heart. You can't blow multi-goal leads and win by the skin of your teeth every night. You're gonna get burned. So, in a perverse way, I'm almost kinda glad we got embarrassed tonight.

I'd feel better if Lalonde were a mouth-breathing-lunatic who berated players when they play like monkey dung.

Lalonde is Blashill part deux...While the roster has improved - the coaching has not.

I was a big anti-Blashill guy, and ya'll will think I'm TOTALLY MAD for saying this, but Jeff was a better coach than Derek... And I don't think much of Jeff.

The team has been scraping out wins despite the jokish leadership.

You don't maintain failing Dpairs for half the season. You don't pound the table for bad Dmen. You don't turn every multi lead goal game into a nail biter. You don't make good fun best friends with all your players. You don't stubbornly play the bad goalie over and over. As a good coach. Not even Blash did many of these things. It;s ******* ridiculous.

The biggest problem now is SY has put his name behind this man. So Derek needs to get his ass in gear real quick, because SY has to be committed or admit he made a huge mistake with a very important hire.

Call me "Spoke too soon" all you want. But good coaches, even in their youth, don't display glaring holes like this. I think we may now be in a situation where we delay our rebuild in order to give this coach a chance, which if the case would be beyond frustrating, just because we have to save face. Terrible. If this performance continues we will fire him in 2-3 years and bring in a vet coach. Optics aside, it would be better to fire him now.

By adding Kane you'd think there's some serious consideration on Yzerman's part in wanting to make the playoffs this spring...Not sure that'll happen if Lalonde is still around.

What about Alain Vigneault - what's he been up to these days?

I know former netminder Robin Lehner thinks highly of him...

Jacques Martin was hired yesterday by Ottawa to be coaching Advisor. Would have liked to see the Wings to make this move.

It is just so frustrating to watch this team constantly shoot itself in the foot because of dumb s*** like taking their foot off the pedal. I would hire anyone willing to beat the players with garden hoses at practice at this point.

What would Scotty Bowman do?

Derek and the team are going to find out very quickly that loses like tonight are much more common than they think if they continue to play this way.

I like Lalonde as a person. Blash was dull, bland, uncharismatic version of Babs. Derek seems to obviously have superb people skills. But he may have been better served as an agent or something. This is not about making friends with Patrick Kane or Lucas Raymond. It's about showing them that YOU (derek) know what you're doing, and that if they dont do EXACTLY what you say you WILL bury them. This is about leading and setting standards. I would have bagged skated this team as their punishment for beating Montreal AND Buffalo. BECAUSE AS THEIR COACH I DIDNT LIKE THE WAY THEY WON. Derek doesn't seem to be "that" guy.

Scotty wouldn't be coaching this team. He would have leveraged his way into coaching VGK by now leaving us to rot like we deserve.

Seriously - award Rasmussen, Compher, etc top line minutes.

Make Larkin, Kane, Raymond, Dcat and all think HARD about giving up 3 shortie goals on one power play. Completely unacceptable. But I guartantee you Derek doesn't do anything. That's your coach wings fans.

Yup - the continuing trend of being pals with the players doesn't seem to work well in many cases...I seem to recall reading where the Flames locked Sutter out of the dressing room at home games while he was coaching there...How are they playing these days? Same goes for Tronna since Babs was shown the door.

WE don't necessarily need a Bowman, or as Babcock, but something certainly more than what we had with Blashill and now Lalonde.

Lalonde has to play who he is given.  We have a shyte defense and a shyte goalie.  And they're expensove to boot.  Until Stevie lets our draft picks play, Lalonde is handcuffed.

Accountability for crappy/indifferent play...Starting late and allowing for a rival to score early goals and/or allowing a rival back into the game due to sloppy play is something coaches need to focus on..Sharks coach Quinn pulled their goalie and called a time out...THey won...Lalonde?

Disagreed. Our D is not Shyte. SY has done a very good job with this. However their are some OBVIOUS adjustments Derek could make that he refuses to.

Ghost - Seider --- ghost has been tremendous nut Derek wont break apart the 1st pair (just like last year)
Walman - Holl --- walman has become a pillar, spreading him out aids us but derek wont do it
Maata - Chiarot

This team is anything but stevies fault IMHO. He has assembled a team that is playing well despite obvious lack of coaching.

Accountability - there is your key word. Players need to be held accountable. Blash had an easy excuse "cant hold Larkin accountable when your back up is Filppula and Nielsen or whatever". Derek does not have this excuse. Play Ras at 1C, play Veleno at 1C, play Compher at 1C. Do what it takes. But Derek is too meek to do anything to upset the order of things. That's not a quality you want in a coach.

Here's what I'd like to see next game:

Ras - Compher - Kane
Fabbri - Copp - Perron
Sprong - Larkin - Raymond
Kostin - Veleno - Fischer

And the demotions will continue until consistency improves.

This isn't a cup season for us - this is a learning season. Learn them. Break them. Make sure that playing AN ENTIRE 60 minutes is the goal or you get shot out of a cannon to another team.

Was it really 3 shorties on the same PP? I'll probably get yelled at for asking, but did Lalonde call a TO after that? I was only checking in on the score at work, I didn't get to watch it all.

Lalonde should be demoted to assoc. coach while Boughner takes over for a while.

Goalie and defense just gave up SIX.

The team have a real opportunity to take a big step this season. Make the playoffs, maybe even win a round. Don’t waste it, Steven. Take action.
