It was definitely a set play, executed by two of the best players in the world (Lindholm and Pastrnak). But that's kinda the deal with the Leafs isn't it? A good team might get burned on a play like that, a great team shuts it down. It's Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. If you don't know where David Pastrnak is at all times then you're going to get burned eventually.

Didn't notice.  Story of your hockey watching life!!!  Hockey and basketball have a similar concept in defense - stay between your man and the net.  The Leafs have way too many players that think they dont need to do this.

The deal with the leafs isn't just that they can't get by the first round, It's that they are nowhere close to competing for the cup. They are not contenders and have never been under the Shanahan years.

Tbf if players want to sign in their hometown theyr usually willing to take a hometown discount. Debrincat and Copp didnt do that imo. Both are at best high market value probably 1m+ to much.

Yzerman seems to be average at best at UFA signings (which goes for most gms) but has exceled at RFA signings (hope so for Ray and Seider) and drafting.

Tbf when you dont have have the advantage of players wanting to player for your team, you end up with contracts like Jeff Skinner. Copp and Dcat have been great additions to this team. Their next contract will be the discount.
