I see people speculating that if Walman scores against Detroit he'll do the Griddy. If he does it likely means we've lost the game because he only seems to do it in game-winning situations. In any event, if he does it I hope Marco or Ras or Veleno or someone runs him completely through the end boards. I got a lot of love for Jake Walman...but not tonight.

As the Detroit Red Wings prepare to face the San Jose Sharks, coach Todd McLellan finds himself in a challenging situation. After a commanding 6-2 victory against the Seattle Kraken, he is not completely satisfied with the performance, noting a level of sloppiness that emerged once the team took an early lead. With the game looming and a day off mandated by collective bargaining agreements, McLellan’s desire for practice time reflects his commitment to maintaining the high standards that have marked the Red Wings’ recent success.

Having won seven consecutive games since his arrival in December, McLellan acknowledges the unique mentality that comes with winning. The players are hungry for more—eager to find additional strategies for success. "You’re either moving forward or you’re repairing," he asserts, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement. While scoring an impressive average of 4.42 goals per game during this winning streak, he remains keenly aware of the need to tighten their play on defense.

The San Jose Sharks, currently struggling with a record of 13-26-6, present a potential trap for the Red Wings if they allow complacency to set in. McLellan’s message is clear: the Sharks, despite their tough season, cannot be underestimated. He knows that showing any sign of laxity could lead to trouble and is intent on instilling a focused mindset in his players.

Even though the day-off complicates matters, McLellan’s emphasis on review and evaluation will continue to guide them through preparation for the Sharks. He intends to use video clips from the Kraken game to highlight areas needing improvement, even if the players might feel less urgency after a decisive win. “It’s harder to sell because they knew it was 5-0 or 6-1,” he admits, but insists that lessons can still be gleaned from what seemed like a comfortable victory.

As the Red Wings lace up their skates on Tuesday morning, it might feel a bit like a practice session. With McLellan at the helm, they are likely to approach the day with a keen sense of purpose, ready to sharpen their focus and avoid any repeat of the lapses they showed against Seattle. The stakes are rising as they aim to solidify their position in the Eastern Conference playoff race, and each game counts. As the momentum builds, only time will tell if their hard work and adjusted focus pay off against the Sharks.

The Wings broadcasters haven’t even mentioned Walman and the Griddy during the pre-game. I think it’s a cover-up. If the “media” had any guts at all they’d ask Seider point blank “what are you gonna do if Walman does the Griddy”?

Todds postgame pretty refreshing vs hearing Derek's our process. TM seems to be a straight shooter as he said Holl knows he messed up and that Husso should have one of the goals.
