Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted February 27 At the end of 2019/20 James Devellano led Jimmy Howard to the fiery center of Mt. Weight Watchers, the only place where the one hoagie to feed them all could be destroyed...... But the hearts of goalies are easily corrupted... "CAST IT INTO THE (TRASH) BIN JIMMY! IT MUST BE DESTROYED!" Devellano exclaimed. Eyeing the precious dbl meat, dbl cheese, and extra mayo hoagie, and with a devious smile begining to creep across his face, Jimmy Howard replied with only: it was on that fateful day that the evil of sandwiches triumphed over the hearts of Detroit goalies. Jimmy cast aside his job, his team, contract and money... all for extra deli meat... dooming the net of wingkind for generations: 2020/21 - Jimmy's heir, Bernier, assumed the net. But he would be quickly injured, traded, and then retire. He lasted just 34 games before the hoagie hex consumed him. 2021/22 - Next in line: the young calder finalist Ned. He made it about 64 games with the wings before the curse too devoured him. 2022/23 to present - Husso made it 74 games. HM to Reimer and Greiss. Howard's hoagie got those goalies too along the way. RIP. Lyon and and Talbot currently sit at 67 and 33 GP respectively. How much longer do we think they have? One hoagie to feed them all, one hoagie to find them, one hoagie to bring them all and in au jus we dine them 1 Rick D reacted to this
Motor City Mullets 315 Report post Posted February 27 I wouldn't mind seeing Lyon sticking around for another 2, or 3 more seasons unless Yzerman feels Cossa is ready to step in next year. Lyon is sure to get a few offers this summer from rivals if Detroit doesn't make a sales pitch by the end of this season.

Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted March 25 It began with the forging of the great hoagies of power. 3 were given to the Phil Kessel... the coolest and most skilled of all out of shape fat guys. 7 to the Big Buff... destroyer of forwards and only black guy in Winnipeg. 9 to the Howie... who above all else desired food over career. Within these hoagies was bound the meats cheeses and skills to win the stanley cup. But they were all of them decieved... For another hoagie was forged. In the land of New Jersey, in the concession stands of the Prudential center, Fatso Brodeur cooked in secret a master hoagie more delicous than all others. And into it he poured all of his lust for his in-laws wives and hatred of Sean Avery.
Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted June 30 (edited) Per Bultman, Phil Osaer - Head of goalie scouting and development is leaving the team. We also still need a new goalie coach. By my count, 14 different goalies have suited up for the Red Wings in the 6 years since Yzerman took over. So averaging 2.33 new goalies per year. Those numbers are WILD when you consider that Holland only suited up 18 different goalies in his entire 21 year tenure as Wings GM. Averaging less than 1 goalie a year at 0.85. Whomever we hire for goalie coach this summer will be Yzerman's 3rd GC in 7 years. Again, WILD, as Holland only had 2 GCs in his 21 year wings tenure. I think you can put some of the blame on Osaer, Salajko, and Westlund. But in the end Yzerman hired Osaer and Westlund, and has already dismissed them. Now that we have Gibson and Cossa is getting very close, it was probably a good time to reset. So at least Yzerman is doing something about it.
Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted July 7 Wings hire Michael Leighton as goalie coach. His first ever coaching gig. Surely this will end well, and the carousel will not continue to spin at an even a faster pace.

With a hire such as this - what could Leighton possible 'teach', 'coach' that would improve either Gibson, or Talbot when taking into consideration their respective NHL careers and performances (as in Leighton doesn't hold a candle to either of them). 2 Rick D and Jimmybigrigs69 reacted to this

Yes, imagine being a 37 year old Talbot, or 31 year old Gibson, taking advice from a 44 year old Leighton that spent most of his career in the AHL and averaged like 4 games a year in the NHL.... he's barely their senior, can't hold a flame to their respective careers, and has no prior coaching expierience... but surely they will respect his critiscm and instruction. GREAT HIRE SY... Its all so tiresome. Prediction: Mclellan and Leighton will both be gone from the Wings within the next 3 years.
