#2369430 3/15 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Oilers 2 (OT)

I like Eaves playing, but benching Tootoo is really stupid. Get Abdelkader or Cleary out. They are the two least productive forwards on the team right now by far. Even Emmerton's hustle and PK ability lately has more value.

Did you copy and paste my post from last game?

I would like to see this happen before i shovel the first tostitos bowl of taco salad into my face

Haha, I didn't see that but I like the way you think. It makes more sense for Babcock to at least try Z and Pavel together again now with Filppula back to center the second line. Nyquist is being wasted on the third line too.

Franzen has got to start hitting the net. These are quality scoring chances being blown for a team struggling to score goals.

How about we do the simple solution and scratch Abdelkader or Cleary and let everyone else in question so far play?

#2368129 Babs: " ....the players decide who plays, not me...."

Come on Babs -- Justin Abdelkader would be in the press box every night if this were true.

#2367968 Nyquist called up, Tatar sent down

Our prospects have to hate this organization sometimes.

Tatar plays very well and gets sent down. Cleary and Abdelkader do nothing and get big minutes with Pavel Datsyuk.

All these home games are done now. I'm not sure the Red Wings banked enough points during them unfortunately. The schedule gets grueling now and they are going to have to win on the road to get in.

What a pathetic weekend.

Columbus took 9 of 10 points this season.

Look no further than that if they miss the playoffs.

Brendan Smith is awesome.

Just put Z and Pavel together already. I'd rather have one line with potential than two lines of nothing. Moving pieces around doesn't suddenly make Cleary, Abdelkader or Franzen productive. Babs is just spreading out the crap -- the combinations are irrelevant.

Can we take a shot with the overripe Nyquist very soon? I don't think it would hurt to inject some actual skill into the top-six.

I don't get why Babs is so stuck on these lines. Even when they have been winning lately, it has been a struggle to score goals and the defense was excellent.

Try something else. The top-six especially is brutal.

#2366899 Time to sit Ian White

Posted by GoWings1905 on 09 March 2013 - 01:54 PM

I must be in the minority here because I don't care if I ever see Ian White play for this team again.  Not because I have anything against White, but because he's not really better at anything than anybody else in our lineup is.

I'm with ya. The defense is better without him.

#2366751 Favorite thing about the Wings this season

Posted by GoWings1905 on 08 March 2013 - 07:07 PM

I think my favorite part is the development of the defense and the way the Red Wings have begun to win games lately. Babcock's lines annoy me sometimes, but he has done an unbelievable job with this group.

The transformation from a team that typically overwhelmed opponents with skill to a more grind it out philosophy is a major change, but fun to watch. Injuries have played a role for certain in the approach, though I don't think it's a bad thing at all the Red Wings are playing a simpler game and focusing on attention to detail. They can't win anymore outscoring teams or relying on skill to bail them out in troubling situations. The only way they can compete at a high level is to play with effort for as close to 60 minutes as possible and avoid costly mistakes. There have been huge leaps of improvement in that regard individually and as a team since that first night in St. Louis.

There are a lot of players that have been impressive too, particularly some of the youth that has gotten an opportunity. Tatar, Andersson, Smith and Kindl have all stepped up and proven to be NHL-quality players this season. Even someone like Emmerton has been far better than I ever anticipated in his role.

Zetterberg and Datsyuk have been exceptional. Brunner is exceeding expectations and looks to be a piece for the future. Ericsson is the best d-man on the team and remarkably reliable. Howard is performing much stronger as the defense in front of him isn't leaving him out to dry most nights now.

I don't know that we will be celebrating a championship in June, but I've had fun watching this roster kind of mold into a competitive team. Some of the major questions marks are becoming promising answers. I will admit the Red Wings are in better shape at this point than I would have guessed a few months ago. They need Helm and Filppula back because the schedule is about to get grueling. However, their play lately has inspired more confidence in me going forward.

#2364875 Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

Posted by GoWings1905 on 04 March 2013 - 10:16 PM

Hossa was more expensive and the Wings would have had to drop somebody else to afford him.

During the 09 playoffs, the biggest whipping boy for Red Wings fans was Hossa, and Franzen was everybody's sweetheart probably some of the same people who claim we should have signed him instead of Franzen now. People would have been outraged if we signed Hossa and dropped Franzen

Not me. Hossa was badly injured during the playoffs and an easy scapegoat. He's still the better player.
