I'm sure the players take pride in the streak as well.... If the wings were to tank LGW would be irate demanding they fire Blashill/Holland

Fans in general want their cake and to eat it too or... They'll just find something new to complain about

You think if we were a lottery team but Mantha, AA, Bertuzzi and everyone was playing it would be all la di da... It would look really ugly with these hyped prospects looking very bad. Maybe if we had a team like that Larkin wouldn't have emerged and pretty much changed the outlook of the future

We have a lot of young guys just blossoming into their NHL careers or entering their prime. I think Holland has had a good outlook on the future while ensuring they're a competitive playoff team. It's not like he's trading all our youth for vets and going all in on a bad team. The only struggle here is the kids have a lot of competition to make the team but they are definitely part of the future

Fact is... When Franzen was feeling it he was the most dominant power forward in the league... He played hard went to the net creamed a guy here and there pretty much exactly what we wish we had now

I have nothing but great memories of Franzen. He single handedly won series en route to back to back finals. If it wasn't for his freakish scoring I don't think we win in 08. I don't think I've ever seen a player so dominant. Consistent? Not quite but when he was on one of his crazy streaks there was absolutely nothing that could stop him

Put Nyquist or Helm on the same line as AA and I think their speed can be a game changing third line like they were in the 2013 playoffs

I would almost prefer to see AA at wing this year. Gives him a better chance to get minutes and can insert him more easily

I for one find these rebuilding years fun to watch

I won't be disappointed until Larkin and co have a few full seasons under their belt and the team still isn't making progress

Holland's made some questionable moves lately but I'm not going to act like he needs to be fired until he starts losing promising players because of it. When and if he makes a trade for an impact defensemen it will be very very important for the future of the team. Right now he's left himself a lot of options. Larkin could have been gone without playing a game for Myers if I remember the rumour correctly

Basically screwed over a young kid

I think these coming years, with a new coach, young hyped prospects coming to the team and the core of our past team slowly fading away, Holland is more focused on developing our young players and being patient. Stockpile as much young talent as possible and make decisions on who can lead this team going forward. I think after he struck out with Stamkos he decided to stay the course and develop talent the Red Wings way even though many find it infuriating.

The logjam of forwards and defense is annoying but honestly if these young guys come out and take these vets spots than more power to them. It will be better for them in the long run. The decision to keep going with the streak instead of a tank job is not soley Holland's decision. He has a boss too

#2683696 Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

Posted by joesuffP on 23 July 2016 - 02:07 PM

I'm not saying glendening Is the best defensive centre in the league but I know if he played on a good team all these stats would change drastically

This board is putting so much stock in our lower defensive signings. How about having top six forwards that can break 50 points? This team is bad in almost all areas aside from GAA and PK which is decent. But yes our defensive players were our demise. If you're a defensive player on a bad team you'll never ever have good numbers

Again just because he doesn't generate shots doesn't mean he isn't good defensively. Wings defensive zone style is to sit back and allow outside shots and get into lanes. If Glendening had great possession numbers the way he is utilized he'd be Zetterberg in his prime. Giving up a lot of shots doesn't mean you're not doing your job defensively. To say Glendening isn't good defensively is to go against every knowledgeable coach he's ever had

You can really see who on this board goes to Winging it in Mowtown... As soon as you realize those people on that site are nothing but fans you become humbled and realize you're not more knowledgeable than NHL coaches and managers. I'm not going to just cast off all advanced analytics but the data is so skewed on a team to team basis. If we were a Stanley cup contender this data would be alarming. This is a bad hockey team and the data reflects that more so than a single player. What a strange coincidence, every player that isn't used defensively has outstanding numbers and every defensive player has terrible ones. I guess that can only mean those guys are trash and Jurco and smith are elite. If you ran your team based off these stats you wouldn't have a good team

There wasn't any real reason to turn on Franzen anyways. He was a beast in his prime and even better in the playoffs. After he got older he was still a very good top six player and is pretty much the exact player we are missing right now

The point is people on this forum will turn on anyone regardless of facts just so it follows their own made up narrative

Jurco scored 6 points last year

In the end Jurco will get dealt for peanuts and everyone will be livid for a week or two

I have to admit the defense is kind of a different story. I think management really values size on the backend, at least from their defensive defenseman. If someone came to training camp and was outstanding offensively I think they would be on the fast track to the lineup though. New defense couch could make things interesting? DD, Smith and Marchenko entering their primes it would change the team if they could have breakthrough seasons, then the outlook would be a lot different. Smith especially. It would be such a huge boost if he could become an impact player

#2683120 Tyler Bertuzzi goal.. Savage lol

Getting a penalty for somebody dropping their stick on a 'slash' is the most infuriating thing in hockey right now

#2682991 Revisiting the 2011 Entry Draft

Posted by joesuffP on 12 July 2016 - 03:48 PM

Where exactly is all Jurco's potential? He really can't shoot the puck at all, not a great skater and has never shown any serious playmaking skills

If Jurco is going to turn it around and be an impact player he needs to use his strength. He ha size and can do everything moderately well. The only enormous untapped potential that our coaches have misused is not using him on the shootout to restock his YouTube highlights

Sure Jurco would benefit from playing with better line mates but that's the only thing it would benefit. He just hasn't been able to make plays for two years. Throw Nyquist or Tatar on that same fourth line and theirs a huge difference. Jurco has been bad anybody can see that

If only they could have made rules to not allow Roy to wear an 4XL jersey back in the day.

Honestly Ozzie probably was the worst for using the oversized jersey
