#2568274 Great Brandon Prust Article

Posted by frankgrimes on 04 February 2015 - 12:33 PM

Disclaimer: those who hate fighting, tough guys will hate it so no need to read the article. http://www.theplayer...m/why-we-fight/

He talks about how he became a tough guy, the code and that sometimes emotions are getting the best of him even against some of his best buddies like King Henrik and Stepan.

At the end Prust gives a nice incite on what goes on the day before a fight.. He doesn't sleep much, still fears the opponent and when the day comes he prefers his fights early to get it out of the way. The best part is probably him talking about rats and what he thinks of guys that are going after skilled and smaller players.

#2568121 Buffalo Sabres could go for the record

Posted by frankgrimes on 03 February 2015 - 09:33 PM

Not even Edmonton could ruin those two
I think you under estimate Edmonton's deficiencies.
But it was more of a snide remark.

Maybe but they really don't deserve either one. I mean this would be their 4? Top 5 pick in a row not even the pens were that bad

#2567981 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Here you go kr:

Or sign  him for nothing but $ in the off-season.

#2567976 Buffalo Sabres could go for the record

Posted by frankgrimes on 03 February 2015 - 10:09 AM

Buffalo is not mismanaged far from it. Murray doesn't have an easy job he has to clear all the mistakes from Regier. Sure Regier didn't have a lot to work with because their former owner has been a penny pincher who couldn't care less about the team. Burke once said about Regier that they spoke a different language in terms of judging talent in trades and that the guy was just too reluctant to give up anything worthwhile in a trade. After Pegula bought the team he saw first hand that Ruff, Regier and their current core (Vanek, Pomminville, Miller and Roy) aren't bringing them up the cup so they blew it up. That's not mismanaged that's looking forward.

McEichel will be the biggest piece of their puzzle but they already have some other young and coming guys on the team/minors and Buffalo isn't going to make the same mistake as Edmonton (a.) drafting offense after offense and b.) rushing them to the NHL when they aren't ready.

What other options does Buffalo have ? Other than teams like the Leafs they for sure weren't going to keep around a core that just couldn't get the job done so that means rebuild from top to bottom at that phase people can't expect UFAs willing to sign there. So the only logical step is to draft as good as possible and make no mistake Buffalo isn't the only team gearing up for one of the two phenoms and guess what their fans deserve it. I just have a bit of a soft spot for them because their story reminds so much of the Wings pre Yzerman and pre Ilitch.

#2566897 1/29 GDT - Red Wings 1 at Lightning 5

Posted by frankgrimes on 29 January 2015 - 08:34 PM

Hopefully monster or Howard are back soon just turned the game on and saw that softie

I thought Monster would be ready by now, I heard he was about a week away a couple weeks ago. Guess they are'nt rushing him, since Mrazek is 5-0-0, but he does need to be better.

Oh ok Howard should be ready soon after too.

Goaltending is actually one of the stronger points with both of them healthy.

#2566633 Sindey Crosby ... haha

Can of worms closed.  Absolutely no debate on anything other than whether the program is funny or not.  The rest is strictly against forum guidelines.

I think it was very funny but sadly a bit played out.

#2566546 Larkin or Mantha?

Posted by frankgrimes on 28 January 2015 - 07:27 AM

Both will fill huge needs when their time comes. Mantha had the size and from all accounts are crazy quick release. Larkin is by far the best center prospect for the wings. If both can turn into solid top 6 contributors that would be really nice.

#2566212 What should we do with the Monster?

Posted by frankgrimes on 27 January 2015 - 07:21 PM

The guy outplayed Howard last year

People are seeing a few games (some good, some average at best) from a young goalie and would already apoint him the backup job. Thats exactly the way of how players are getting their confidence shattered in early years.

He didn't actually outplay Howard at all. Howard had one of his worst years last year and was still better than monster. Howard had almost no goal support while when gustavsson was in net the team scored a full goal more per game. That's the only reason why he won all those games

Not really without monster there are no playoffs

#2566085 Give Patrick Hersley a shot?

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 January 2015 - 07:05 PM

Well I don't know anything about that guy - read his name for the first time here - so thank you Ekmanc for the information. If he doesn't cost  anything other than € I'm all for trying it if it doesn't work send him down to the AHL.

#2566043 What should we do with the Monster?

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 January 2015 - 02:25 PM

IMO he's not needed here. We have capable young goalies and when Jimmy is healthy, it's not worth pushing them back in line. Let Mrazek be the backup. I thought re-signing him was a mistake in the first place.

#2566040 LA puts Mike Richards on waivers

Posted by frankgrimes on 26 January 2015 - 02:23 PM

Wow that's nuts. Does LA still have their buyout clause available? Or did that all expire after the end of the year last year? (Sorry, I'm completely lost without CapGeek...too much research.)

That window closed down after the seasson started.

#2565923 2016 World Cup of Hockey

Posted by frankgrimes on 25 January 2015 - 03:26 PM

I hate the fact that Slovakia isn't getting their own team. Its a country fighting for respect in the hockey community, and even though they have won gold medals at the world championships, gotten 4th in the Olympics just 5 years ago, gotten bronze at this years world juniors etc. because of a weak showing in Sochi, they get the short end of the stick.

Yeah I'm sure Tatar - who deserves a spot on that team - and others are pissed about it. That country had a great showing at the WJC beat the heavily favored Swedes  and develops some great talent. I mean, even if a country may not be "competitive" this is about national pride, patriotism representing your country on the international stage against the best players in the world, that's why the Olympics are such a success.

One can almost be assured a lot of players will have some "injuries" come World Cup of hockey time..

I think it's very close between Modano and Chelios.

#2565871 GDT : NHL Skills Competition/60th All-Star Game

Posted by frankgrimes on 25 January 2015 - 06:36 AM

OEL is unbelievable if this guy would be playing for a big market team there would be much more hype around him.  That guy is going to be a stud soon. Ekblad also impressed me the guy is not even 19 and shoots at 94 mph what the f*** ? That boy has all the makings of becoming the next Weber speaking of which that tank is just insane 108,5 mph slaptshot I'm sure his onetimer might reach 120 + too bad Chara hasn't been there.

It's amazing how skilled these guys are you don't see that on the ice because the game goes so quick but their stick handling, accuracy and speeds are top notch hockeyplayers really are the best athletes when it comes to the complete package.

but man do they ever get rid of that stupid draft, stop embarassing players and go back to the East versus West All STAR team and let guys in the know decide...that stupid voting challenge makes a joke of the whole thing.

Oh and the Toronto Media can shut up now, Kessel did the fastes t skater  challenge under 14 seconds and beat Tyler Seguin that wouldn't be possible if that guy isn't in shape..

#2565576 Franzen on IR

Posted by frankgrimes on 22 January 2015 - 02:50 PM

I genuinely forget that he's on the team whether he's playing or not half the time. It's kinda sad. Have they said anything about this injury other than "upper body injury"?

The sad thing is the guy could have been such a dominate force on the ice, huge body frame and blessed with great hands thought he could become a Bertuzzi light but sadly he never turned into such a physical player

I like him a s a person comes of very humble and intelligent but not buying him out will hurt this team in the long run.

He would be a nice addition to a team that already has grit and size and is just looking for a cheap complementary piece.
