Well in Kessel's case he was up against a beast + he is a skilled guy not an enforcer. Would he have accepted, I am sure Scott wouldn't have punched him as hard as he can but none the less he did the right thing, by defending himself with the stick.
Holtby should heavily looking into assault charges, of course Shanahan does nothing because Snider is in the NHL buddybuddy club.
I love fighting and I think it has to be part of the game, it's entertaining but ASSAULT =/= fighting.I mean, the other two fights meh heat of the moment and injuries can happen but this one was just a disgrace.
The TSN panel talked about how it is impossible to differ between a good and a bad fight, it is really not hard: good fight = two *willing* guys bad fight = Emery.
Take the 2 points but against an Oilers side with a bunch of injuries and looking worse and worse by the day. Nothing to brag about on this one.
However Helm scoring BIG +
Surprisingly a great road trip so far....
Agreed the Boilers right now are injury rattled and lacking an inch of confidence. Teams, who are considered playoff contenders should beat Edmonton and Calgary. The win against the Canucks was a huge - while unexpected - one. Perfect roadtrip so far.
So happy for Helm guy is a warrior and heart and soul guy.
God I hate it, hockeyplayers are normally the classiest teamsport athletes but I guess some bad apples have to be there Hopefully this criminal idiot will never see the NHL ice again.
Trying to understand this comment, but I just can't. Why are we calling this guy a "criminal idiot" when we don't even know if he's guilty yet? He may or may not have done something, but all we know so far is he turned himself in. If I was accused of something and the cops were looking for me, I too would turn myself in just so we can get everything sorted out, NOT because it means I'm guilty.
Turning yourself in and getting charged with second degree kidnapping and domnestic violence is not something to take lightly. Usually when you turn yourself in most people are making sure that their lawyer is there.
but whatever I'll rephrase it:
if he is indeed guilty, I hope this THEN criminal idiot will never see the ice again
Things that have surfaced regarding the trade; from TSN, Canada's Sports Leader:
Saw this earlier and I'm surprised the Leafs were the first to be offered Vanek if true. But the reality is the Leafs don't/didn't need him. Especially at the asking price. Islanders gave up a lot. Now will Vanek resign? Highly doubt it.
The Mapleleafs need a number one center badly, Vanek Thomas.doesn't fill that need at all, especially not for that asking price. I also read somewhere that he doesn't want to play in Canada because of the scrutiny. Personally I think he is going to become a Wild or Penguin in the offseason.
As with Moulson doubt he wants go waste his prime years with the rebuilding Sabres, they are going full Liners style with it.
Someone mentioned the salary cap, who's fault is it really? This league is built around the O 6 teams not NONE of them stood up against the lockout BS. The NHLPA is also to blame here, they should have just decertified and after that this DetroitRedWings edition would have been one to remember for years to come I am 100 % certain the best owner in all ofs ports would have given Kenny a blank check to ice an incredible roster, just to show the Tankuins and Suckhawks how to built a roster on the fly.
BUT it's not like veterans aren't getting dealt anymore, what about Derek Roy, Jason Pominville, Douglas Murray....? These guys were available at the tdl are they elite? No, but still better than a lot of the veterans on this team.
That's the issue, living too vicariously through these athletes. Remember they are real people too. Misplaced emotion, too much Red not enough White. What I'm getting at is, the Red Wings organization has a very clear strategy. Why are we gathering up negative and scattered thoughts because we disagree with who is playing? We as fans should be coming together to UNCONDITIONALLY support and motivate the team we love. That's our role as fans. We aren't the gm, the coach, or the players. We are the supporters. The followers. The fans. Video games and fantasy sports are not the real thing, so why are we taking our fantasy and video game mentalities and forcing them on, and corrupting our views of the real thing? The critic critiques, the fans support. Its one thing to show concern, but really, it's none of our concern..
Seems like the more uneducated the fans get about the sport, the more they buy into the s*** that doesn't matter.
What the? I'm an adult so I can speak for myself thanks. It's not like anything being discussed on the internet is going to influence the front-office. As a fan I want the DetroitRedWings go contend for the Stanley Cup annually and sorry but 2x second round 1x first round and another 2 round exit are not pointing into the this direction, so why bent back or add over the hill or injury prone players? I can think for myself and yes I WILL criticize that, especially when one of the reasons this team even made the playoffs is playing in the AHL..
Being a fan doesn't mean I have to act like a mindless zombie or yes-man...
Exactly where would he have located $7.2m of cap space?
True we have no cap room today, but what about last summer? before we pissed away 5.5 million of Alfie, 5 million on Weiss, and didn't use our second buyout on say Franzen? that is 15 million right there! Not to mention the 1.75 million on cleary. we could have traded for both Ryan and vanek and had to good scoring lines! but no......
It's really amazing how many NHL guys (players, former players, coaches, etc) do things like this. Maybe not quite as much as Tortorella in this case, but it happens way more frequently than we hear about. Most hockey guys are pretty grounded, they are generally good guys, even the ones you love to hate.
So true I mean, the Sedins spent millions of $ helping out with building a hospital for kids in Vancouver, to me this just shows how hockey players, coaches are just the most down to earth and classy guys all around.
Wow I really hate John T the coach, but off the ice he seems to be a totally different person. After watching this - warning really sad - I really hope all the Rangers and Canucks players are sending some jerseys to this guy, unbelievable what he to suffer from
