I say let them keep thinking that.  Most of thought this team wouldn't be icing for the playoffs, and most thought that we wouldn't make it out of the first round either.   Do I think we'll beat the hawks on talent alone? NO!  But, I think we will shock them at least twice in this series.  Let them doubt.  This team thrives on it.

That kind of forecheck has given the Wings fits for the last couple seasons now.  And with our current defensive corps they're even more likely to get rattled. 

 

Against the Kings the Blues have been leaving someone like Oshie out at center ice cherry picking and tried long stretch passes to try to capitalize on the forecheck.  I almost wonder if the Wings should try some of that.  If it even leads to one breakaway it might back the Ducks off a bit.

 

Otherwise it doesn't seem like they have a lot of set plays for breaking out of the zone under forecheck so it requires the Dmen to make a quick decision, probably take a big hit, and make a good pass.

This is also why we miss guys like helmer so much.  He gets that outlet pass even a half step ahead of their D men, and he's gone.  He doesn't have the hands yet to finish most likely, but having him constantly rushing their goalie by himself will make them think twice before forechecking that hard the whole time.

I missed this game unfortunately.  Does anybody have a clip of the kronwalling that caused this chant?  Would be much appreciated!!
