#2266377 3/4 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1

Nice flyby from Kane on Nik's goal. What a great hockey player he is, eh?

#2265694 07/08 Wings VS 11/12 Wings

Certainly no shame to not be as good as the 2008 squad -- that team was incredible. We are a lucky bunch of fans to have seen a team that good in the same lifetime as another team that was arguably even better (2002). Very few fan bases can boast having so many amazing teams in such a short span of time.

The main difference between this year's team and that year's, I would say, is that back then Hank had more get up and go. And they were a PKing machine in those days. More glaring weaknesses on this 2012 team for sure, but being head-and-shoulders above the rest of the competition isn't the only way to win the Cup (although it may be the way some are most used to).

#2265126 Brendan Smith watch thread

He was apparently one of only two Wings that decided to throw a hit last night.

I know stats for the home team are always inflated, but nothing could have prepared me for that.

#2264076 2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET

Would you trade Emmerton for Gaustad straight up? I wouldn't!

Gaustad's nothing special (certainly no first rounder) but he's a hard hitter and PK kinda guy. Emmerton is a straight up nobody.

#2263009 Johan Franzen Depreciation

10-11 playoffs: .250g/gp .375pt/gp
previous three playoffs: .608g/gp 1.159pt/gp

I can't believe people are still on his case about last year's playoffs. Remember how he slid into the boards and smashed up his ankle? And missed several games? I think that might have had something to do with it. He wouldn't be the first Red Wing to be rendered ineffective in the playoffs because of an injury, nor is he anywhere near the most talented of the players that's happened to either.

#2260645 Bertuzzi Contract Extension

Posted by Heroes of Hockeytown on 22 February 2012 - 01:32 PM

The problem is this extension prevents upgrades from being made. That is my point.

Well, Homer is probably going to retire next season. Who knows what will happen with Hudler, or Eaves for that matter. So there are some forward spots opening up. And if they went out and got someone like Parise and needed to bump someone out of the top six I don't think there'd be any trouble with that guy being Bert, who has already spent part of this season in the bottom six. And you never know, in eras long past the Wings had so many good forwards they were able to put together three quality scoring lines.

Bert has consistently been a guy that gets 40+ points a season and is reliable in the shootout; every team needs a few Berts to survive. I think one year may have been more appropriate, but if management is confident in his ability to keep playing that long than so am I.

#2259691 Datsyuk out at least 2 weeks

Posted by Heroes of Hockeytown on 21 February 2012 - 12:54 PM

That's... less than spectacular. But I agree, best to get it done now and get him geared up for the playoffs. Last time Pavs was hurt Hank stepped up in a big way; he's already gotten on a nice run of late.

What kind of knee surgery takes only 2 weeks to recover from?

The minor arthroscopic kind, evidently.

I can hardly believe it but it looks like the Wings are going to win another game where they were seemingly outplayed. I think this year's team has leaned more heavily on goaltending than any one in a loooong time. And the J-class of goalie has delivered.

don't see the wings winning this one.

When I woke up this morning, the Sun was rising in the east, water was still wet, and pi faithfully remained 3.14(etc). Some things just go without saying, man.

#2257146 Blackhawks' Losing Streak: Nine Games and Counting

Posted by Heroes of Hockeytown on 15 February 2012 - 12:17 PM

I think the Wings would kick their asses if they met in the playoffs. The only team in the West the Wings seem to match up especially poorly against is San Jose, so if anyone would volunteer to do the dirty work for them on that front I'd really appreciate it. Obviously the Canucks are a great team and that could go either way. Well, they all could, but that's hockey; no one knows which way the puck will bounce. But as long as I'm sitting here making declarations, yes: Chicago sucks and are not as good as the team I like.
