Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=226408&hubname= The Colorado Avalanche announced Thursday that Ryan Smyth will be out eight weeks with a fractured ankle. Smyth suffered the injury in the overtime period of Colorado's 4-3 shootout loss in Phoenix on December 31. The preliminary diagnosis was a sprain, and Smyth sat out Colorado's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes on Wednesday night. The Avalanche said in a press release Thursday that further medical evaluation on Smyth's injured right ankle revealed a fracture and that he would be out approximately eight weeks. "The fracture was discovered following additional medical tests which included an MRI exam," said Avalanche head trainer Matthew Sokolowski. "We expect him to make a full recovery." It's the second big loss for the Avalanche this season. The team has already been playing without captain Joe Sakic, who underwent successful hernia surgery last week and is expected to be out two to three months. Smyth has 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 36 games this season. Tough blow for the Avalanche. First Sakic, and now Smyth both gone for an extended period of time. They could be in for a rough season now.

First Sakic, and now Smyth both gone for an extended period of time. They could be in for a rough season now. I don't disagree with you because that is a huge blow for them... But Sakic hasn't really played and Smyth only had a 11 goals through 36 games. So it's not like they were reliant on their scoring this season. They will miss their leadership though, but I think Brunette would be able to step it up. I think as long as people like Stastny continue to be a beast, they'll be alright. Their whole division to me seems to be very streaky. A week ago the Avs were 3rd in the West and now they're near the cellar. I could be wrong though... up2here 41 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Picture the Wings without Lidstrom for 12 weeks and Zetterberg for 8.That would suck pretty bad. I do think the Wings are better equipped to handle it than Colorado though.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 This could turn the Avs into sellers at the deadline.... Don't get your hopes up that they'll be "selling" to Detroit. I guarantee that, despite the Wings and Av's not being rivals anymore, the two teams will never ever be trading partners.

I guarantee that, despite the Wings and Av's not being rivals anymore, the two teams will never ever be trading partners. I never implied that. However, with a guy like Svatos, who has been the subject of a lot of rumors, it could mean he could be dealt. That's all. BTW, in the salary cap era, teams almost have to consider every other team as a potential trade candidate. It's all about getting the most value in return. Usually in the way of prospects/picks. csdan 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 (edited) I don't know how I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing that the divelanche have been cursed this way. You're the only Wing fan I truly do not like on this board, you complain about Red Wing Suck chants showing lack of intelligence, yet you refer to them as divealanche all the time, and you celebrate injuries to Sakic and Smyth (real classy BTW). I'm not asking you to like the Avs, but a little respect for them would be nice. I respect the wings for what they have accomplised and continue to accomplish and for the great years we had against each other. You may be in your 20's but you act and reason like your a child that has to name call in order to try and get your point across. Try growing up for a change. To the rest of the wing fans, thanks for being at least respectful. Edited January 4, 2008 by csdan

If you don't like me that's good, because I don't like any divelanche fans either, so it's only fair.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted January 4, 2008 so is my fantasy seems like since Holms got injured all my players are I keep getting screwed by injuries too. Now I've got Smyth, Toews, Carcillo, Legwand and Jason Williams all out and Shanny just missed a game too. They only let me put one guy on the IR at a time, but I don't ever want to drop anybody and regret it.

I loathe the Avalanche, but their fans have passion and root for their team. I despise the Maple Loafs, but their fans are near fanatical. How can you diss someone for being passionate about their hometown team??? That IS classless, I have family in Colorado and have worn a Red Wings shirt their many times only to have people say, "The Wings, SUCK, dude!!" to which I just smile and say "Fair enough...". I do not wish serious injury on any player no matter WHAT team he plays for. Because karma is truly a *****, and some NHL fan SOMEWHERE is rooting for an injury to a Wings player. So in CSdan's case , I agree, show a little class........

This is true, you didn't say that, I think maybe it just came across that way. I think that may have been CSdan's point as well. The best example I can use is that I am also a football fan, as well as hockey, and I think the "black hole" fans that attend Raider games need to seriously get a life, BUT I don't begrudge them for rooting for their team ( even though they suck almost as bad as the Lions...) It pisses me off when I hear fans in other arenas chant "Osgood, Osgood..." but I get it, they're being fans and trying to get under the other teams/players skin...it's what we do as fans. So if you're simply stating that you hate the Avs , fair enough, I do too !! ( along with the Maple Loafs, Sharks, and the Anaheim Mighty Sucks! ) Edited January 4, 2008 by Winged Scooter

csdan 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks Winged Scooter, That is all I was trying to show GMR was that he is acting the exact same as the fans he loves to criticize. I understand not liking a team that the nature of the sports, but to make a generalization about an entire fan base based on a few bad apples is not right. I'm not going to judge an individual Wing fan by what kind of person they are because they cheer for a team I don't like.
