Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 that just brought tears to my eyes!!!! a great man. a true hero to all. Wings would have been close to Montreal in cups by now if that accident wouldn't have happened. Still irritates me to this day. Vladdy was a real special player. Not many with his all around skill set.

Vladifan 680 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 There aren't words to describe Vladdy's courage when he played, and what he's displaying now. He obviously refuses to give up and not fight. And that goes for his wife Irina (sp?) and how she has supported him since that hideous tragedy happened. I'm grateful that espn showed this, and to you Reds, for putting it on here. Thanks. Guest Four Report post Posted May 4, 2009 That actually made me teary eyed. I was either 4 or 5 when it happened and I never realized at the time who he was or how great of a player he was. I remember winning the cup the first year and the next year winning again and seeing this man in a wheel chair receive the trophy. I wondered all the time who the guy was and why he was do important to the team and why Yzerman gave him the cup. Upon growing up I began to realize who he was and it brings me joy that I was so young I didnt experience what many of you felt, but at the same time it tears me up to witness his potential he had now and reflect on how many years I could have seen him play and how he could potentially still be playing right now and helping us win another cup this year. Yzerman's whole career is wrapped up with that one photo - class, respect, love, leadership, among others. He is a true role model that I feel grateful to have. Keep fighting Vlady, the Wings miss you.

SoDakWing 8 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 He is the true definition of what a warrior is. Vlady will always be in my prayers, and the image of him in the wheel chair with the team skating him around with the cup is truly amazing. Goes to show that the Red Wings are more than a hockey team, they are a family. A family that is spread out to the fans. Red Wing nation is strong. #16 to the rafters! Nobody would be able to ever wear it like he has, and it should be in the presence of our other great players.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 He is the true definition of what a warrior is. Warrior, yes. Moreover, imo, he's one of the greatest pests in Red Wings history because he could back it up with his physicality. He doesn't hit and run away like Malts or Sammy or Franzen the wimp according to Milbury, the worst hockey professional ever.

Yzermania 156 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 (edited) Was he the greatest or what? I'll never forget the night when I got to meet him. I was 10 years old I believe...because it was 96, don't remember what month though. I was at the Red Wings vs Kings game at the forum and because one of our cousins knew people high up in the forum, we got "owners seats" where they bring you food and s*** like that and after the game we got admission to the forum club which was the bar at the forum. Anyhow, that night was a dream come true as pretty much ALL of the Wings were there, but among them all Vladdy and Stevy Y stand out the most to me till this day. A bunch of the wings were gathered in a circle around the bar talking and all and Vladdy opened up the circle and pulled me in and everyone in that circle signed my jersey...I mean Fetisov, Ozzy, Vernon, Kozlov and a couple others who I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was amazing and Vaddy was the one who initiated it because I had asked him to sign my jersey and then he did so and had all the other guys do it after him. I also got a card signed by him that night and to this day it is one of my prized possessions. The other cool thing that night was when I sat at the bar and talked to Stevy Y and got my "YZERMAN" hat signed by him. At 10 years old, that was pretty much the best night of my life at that point and it only gained more meaning once Vladdy was injured. here's the card....
