betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 Zach Miner gets win #2 as he goes 7 innings and gives up no earned runs. The DRays two unearned runs came in the 1st inning but Miner didnt let it get to him and shut them down. Dombrowski may have found us another good one! Dombrowski has been a trading machine the past couple years. Only thing about Miner right now, you have to wonder if his success stems from the fact that nobody has a scouting report on him. The real test of his abilities comes when he faces someone for a second time.

Only thing about Miner right now, you have to wonder if his success stems from the fact that nobody has a scouting report on him. The real test of his abilities comes when he faces someone for a second time. Thats a good point, but hopefully he ends up being the hidden gem like Robertson was in the Redman trade. Its sure nice to have faith in Tigers trades since ol' Randy left isnt it? I think Gohr for Easley was like the only good trade he made! And of course, even that ended up as a disaster. Off the top of my head...lets see, we had: Cecil Fielder for Matt Drews and Ruben Sierra David Wells for CJ Nitkowski LOL Cordero, Catalanotto, Thompson, and maybe someone else for Gonzalez, Patterson, and Zaun(?) DISASTER Juan Encarnacion for Dmitri Young ok he gets a ...although the pricey extension he was mainly responsible for doesnt look good now Luis Gonzalez for Karim Garcia (good lord...) Bryce Florie for Mike Maroth (took a long time to pay off, but it finally did) Im sure im forgetting one or two more big ones, and of course then there were all the trades with the Astros and Padres that are too confusing to remember now but got us nowhere! Yeah these guys are awful, I like the WGN Sox crew, but these guys... ick Sounded like quite a few Tigers fans in the crowd, should be even louder tomorrow. I know a bunch of guys who are going, unfortunately im not able to though.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 16, 2006 I have a bunch of friends going too. Would be nice to see a lot of support in the stands. I've only been to a few Tigers away games, but at both of them (Texas and Baltimore) there were quite a few Tigers fans in the crowd.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 16, 2006 I picked up on a few "Lets go Tigers" chants during the game, christ when's the last season we ever heard that at home let alone the road lol. I bet that Saturday game is gonna be packed with Tigers fans, should be fun to watch!

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 19, 2006 I heard this suggestion on tv before and after seeing the hoopla and crowd involvement over Rodney's AB Saturday, I really am in favor of it. And thats having the no DH rule put in place at American League parks during interleague play...doing the opposite. And having the DH at NL parks. I think the AL fans would really get a kick of out of seeing their pitchers bat at home, its a really good idea i think.

By having a DH, it takes away a lot of the strategy in the late innings away.

Actually i'd rather just do away with interleague play too! But since most fans like it, its something i can tolerate. The no DH at AL parks though would at least make it more interesting though. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 19, 2006 Humberto Sanchez at Toledo - 3-0 0.47 ERA in 3 starts Combined with his Erie #s thats 8-3 with a 1.49 ERA. And he's only 23 yrs old, so this isnt a matter of some veteran dominating. Although i hate the thought of losing a potential great pitcher, we have good young pitching and Sanchez is definitely someone we could use to get a lefty bat or even another good late inning bullpen guy by the deadline (if Jones continues to struggle). The no DH at AL parks though would at least make it more interesting though. DH must die. Interleague play, I guess I can live with it. Didn't like it, but as it is now, it's a real hit with a lot of people. As long as it remains a novelty, I can live with it. I like it that games like Tigers-Cubs are special because they don't come around every year. Yeah, it's been traditional that the AL and NL don't play, and yeah, no one gives a flying rip about Rockies vs. Devil Rays or whatever, but certain games like Tigers-Cubs, Red Sox-Braves, Dodgers-Angels, etc. have a real flair to them that it's kind of fun to see every so often, and yeah, would be a shame to deprive fans of if they never meet in the Series. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 20, 2006 The DH needs to go. I'm a big fan of interleague play, as long as its used how it is now. No need to expand it.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 20, 2006 Smoltz said he would come to Detroit. Baseball tonight has Detroit Tigers receive: P John Smoltz Atlanta Braces receive: P Joel Zumaya No way I say. Sounds eerily familiar to the old Doyle Alexander for Smoltz trade...everything coming full circle with the Braves pulling one on us! How about Smoltz for Zach Miner and Roman Colon? I'd love to get Smoltz here, maybe something could be worked for Humberto Sanchez and another minor leaguer.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 20, 2006 Smoltz said he would come to Detroit. Baseball tonight has Detroit Tigers receive: P John Smoltz Atlanta Braces receive: P Joel Zumaya Never happen. Dombrowski isn't about to trade the fans' favorite. For many people (including me) Zumaya is the answer to that question they've been asking: Who's your Tiger? The atmosphere is really something when Zumaya comes in the game, it's electric. Here's Rob Neyer on the subject: Matt (Port Huron, MI): Hey Rob. I heard at the tail end of a show (I think Baseball Tonight) Karl Ravech saying something about Tigers fans preferring to have Joel Zumaya over John Smoltz and Kruk saying he'd take Smoltz over anyone on the staff. Would it make sense to trade a 21 year old who has shown himself able to get major league hitters out in tough spots for a historically brittle 39 year old who's stats this year wouldn't improve on anyone in the rotation? Rob Neyer: My promise to you: Joel Zumaya's not going anywhere. The Tigers feel a great sense of ownership regarding Verlander and Zumaya, and they're not going anywhere. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted June 21, 2006 I'd like to keep Miner if at all possible. He seems like he's got the stuff to be a solid player in the bigs. Not to mention he just ripped a double over Jenkins' head to lead off the third, and scored on Granderson's double. Nice, you gotta love it when the pitcher helps himself out. First major-league at-bat, too. Did I mention the DH sucks? Also have I ever mentioned that this season is basically a dream come true? 12 years in a row, 15 out of 17, my favorite team of all has lost more than they won. First season I ever really paid close attention to the Tigers, I was 7 years old, it was 1989, and I was reading in the papers how Sparky Anderson was home in California with a nervous breakdown because of all the losing. As would I, was just kidding cause that was the same 2 Atl gave us for Farnsworth. But theres no way in hell theyd even take back Miner for Smoltz. Miner does look like a player though! Plus we got Miller coming next year (if he gets signed hopefully), and Tata who i think has got "it". I just have that feeling from seeing him in the pen earlier that theres something there. This just makes Humberto Sanchez expendable, who has alot more trade value than Miner and Tata because of his stuff as well as gaudy minor league numbers.
