timothy1997 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2006 the tigers need a Left handed batter. It would be nice for them to have that in DY. Young hits like he can, the abreau or soriano to detroit deal is dead.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 23, 2006 I hope they dont let DY's return stop their lefty pursuit altogether. The more i watch Shelton and his bad swings, I want Sean Casey more than ever now. Although DY is a 1B, I dont really think they'd feel comfortable defensively (neither would i) with him playing there. Im not saying bench Shelton completely, he can still be cycled in at part time first and DH. At least get Dave Dellucci, he'd be a huge upgrade over Gomez as the lefty OF. Having him would make a bigger impact then having Soriano IMO....and Casey is cheaper to get. I dont think you can have both Casey and Dellucci without sending another player down to Toledo. Who would send down. Ramon Colon?? Omar Infante??

Im not really asking for both, just saying at least get Dellucci if they dont go for Casey. We have to keep Infante up, or we'd be left with no backups at SS, 2B, and 3B. We need his versatility. Alexis Gomez is the obvious casualty, sending him down and bringing in Dellucci makes alot of sense. Smaller move on paper, but still a huge upgrade. Im not sure how we would work out bringing in Casey, DY kinda puts a wrinkle in the plans. Would be tough having 3 1B's who cant play anywhere else besides DH. It sucks though cause Casey would be so much better for our lineup than Young imo. I really want him here. He'd be unique to the lineup in that he'd be like a lefty Polanco, has flashes of power but is mainly very good contact, doesnt strike out, and has great character. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 After what the Nats wanted from us, they better be getting 3 of the White Sox best prospects. They say Brandon McCarthy will not be part of the package, which is pretty surprising. My god is that lineup gonna be scary, luckily for us their pitching has been really shaky. I hope we make a deal for another bullpen guy, Rodney struggled yet again last night...we could use a little more insurance back there.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 25, 2006 You can read into this all you want, but both Humberto Sanchez and Jair Jurrjens (the two pitchers the Nats want) both missed their scheduled starts this week. Coincidence??? Also last Wednesday, there were 4 scouts at Toledo's game to watch Humberto: The D-Backs (think Shawn Green/Mr Steroids Luis Gonzalez), Pittsburgh (Sean Casey), the Nationals (Soriano), and believe it or not...The Minnesota Twins. I have no idea why the Twins would be scouting him, unless the Tigs and Twins are thinking about a "ill help you, you help me" trade to unite against the White Sox. Thats pretty far fetched though... The Pirates and D-backs are dreaming. Sanchez for anybody at all in those organizations (at least someone who can help for the stretch drive) would give Dombrowski something to laugh about. But whatever. Dmitri's been mashing since his return. HR last night. There's your left-handed bat.

Dmitri's been mashing since his return. HR last night. There's your left-handed bat. I dont know, its gonna take me a little while to get sold on DY again. I definitely dont want Shawn Green or Gonzo either. Detroit is said to be a player in the run for Carlos Lee. With every game the Brewers lose the chances of him being traded increase. I'm betting we could get him for Sanchez, Jurrjens, and Monroe. Similar to what the Nats want but instead of having to part with a top prospect like Maybin as the 3rd player(which is RIDICULOUS) i think Monroe would be good enough for the Brewers. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 Well, so much for Carlos Lee... Carlos Lee, minor leaguer Nelson Cruz(not the one we used to have lol), and a PTBNL going to the Texas Rangers for Francisco Cordero, Kevin Mench, and Laynce Nix. Clearly this is the Brewers attempt at staying moderately competitve the rest of the year and not totally losing faith of the fans by acquiring major league players instead of prospects. Pretty happy about that trade. For one, the Rangers have the worst pitching of any playoff contender, so I really do hope they win the West, and that the Tigers earn the #1 playoff seed and meet the Rangers in the first round. For another, Lee to the Rangers means no Lee for the White Sox or Twins.

Even if Lee went back to the Sox,..oh well, I'd be more afraid if they acquired a starting pitcher, their lineup is already loaded. But if the Twins had gotten him..now that would most definitely be scary!! The 3 scenarios that worry me the most are: 1) The Twins acquiring a big bat (given thier payroll restrictions that makes this not likely though) 2) The Angels getting Soriano (i see this happening...hopefully E Santana will be going to the Nats, weaken their SP ) 3) The White Sox getting a good starter (not likely with who's available) I see us ending up with Dellucci. Tigers need to win the divison but have the wild card come from Chicago and Minnesota in order for that happen.

Tigers need to win the divison but have the wild card come from Chicago and Minnesota in order for that happen. The top seed always plays the team with the worst record in the first round, unless that team comes from the same division. Pretty well locked in right now that the AL West champion will have the worst record, so the Tigers just need to earn the #1 seed. And among Texas, LA, and Oakland (it won't be Seattle), Texas has the worst pitching. I don't want to see Barry Zito twice in a five-game series.

Wiki Link The wild-card team is assigned to play the division winner with the best winning percentage in one series, and the other two division winners play the other series. However, if the wild-card team and the division winner with the best record are from the same division, the wild-card team plays the division winner with the second-best record, and the remaining two division winners play. In any event, the two series winners move on to the best-of-seven ALCS.

You know they'd have thrown Liriano, Santana, Radke, Liriano, Santana. Moving on....the Tigers called up Brent Clevlen from AA Erie. Strange move. He's not exactly tearing it up down there. I'd be wondering WTF if I were Alexis Gomez, who's been playing pretty decently.

The word is that the Tigers are trying to offer Clevlen in a Soriano package instead of Cameron Maybin. Although he's stinking it up Clevlen is still one of their top position prospects, so theyre probably hoping he goes out today and shows a little something to interest the Nats or possibly even someone else.
