Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Also have 3 of the top 10 ten ERA's in the AL, with the steamrolling Bonderman only 0.15 away from making it 4! Also the combo of Miner/Maroth has a 3.18 ERA, which would also be top 5....unbelievable, talk about having good starting pitching from top to bottom! - Dmitri Young pleaded no contest to choking some girl, and is now down at Lakeland trying to get back into form...but his return will not stop the Tigers from looking for a lefty bat - Tigers inquired about Cliff Floyd and were told the Mets arent trading him, dont wanna feed ammo to a possible opponent i guess - Nook Logan sent to AA (ouch...), with former Twin Dustan Mohr being signed for Toledo. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 shame about Nook. I always liked the guy and actually was hoping the tigers would use logan and granderson this year. Hope he can make it back to the big leagues.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Im not sure by how much the rosters expand for the playoffs, since we havent been there in a while lol, but if they do I think Logan should be brought up specifically for pinch running duty. I remember Boston was using David Roberts 2 years ago in that fashion.

Guest Stevie is God Report post Posted June 30, 2006 I've been thinking about a trade that would be cool for the Tigers to make, but would never happen. Nationals receive: Placido Polanco and Todd Jones (or maybe Maroth) Tigers receive: Alfonso Soriano

Nationals receive: Placido Polanco and Todd Jones (or maybe Maroth) Tigers receive: Alfonso Soriano Not only would that never happen, i also wouldnt want it. Polanco has great D and is one of the few real good contact hitters in the Tigers lineup. We'd be replacing him with yet another big strikeout right handed hitter. Soriano was also known in the past for s***ty defense..
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Why would that be good? Polanco was probably the best player on the Tigers last year. He makes 5.4 million less than Soriano and is a team player, something Soriano was accused of not being earlier this year. Polanco has been bothered by his back some this season, but he's an extremely dependable contact hitter. Furthermore, no team in the league is going to take Jones off our hands Edit: Lou and I post the same thing at the same time, nice

Alfonso Soriano is my favorite non-Tiger. Also, Polanco's average has dropped pretty significantly since last year. I think Thames is better fit to bat second. On another note, What's going to happen with the Tigers rotation when Maroth gets healthy? I sure as hell don't want to see him take Zach Miner's spot. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Polanco has been fighting a back problem all year. I think I heard on the broadcast during a Houston game that he's getting better though. I'm not sure what will happen with Maroth and Miner. If I had to guess, I'd say that Miner will go back to Toledo and be brought up for spot starts. Leyland has mentioned he'd like to use a 6 man rotation every now and then for some extra rest. I don't want to see him be used a middle relief, since I think he's got a pretty good amount of starter potention. I'd rather see him in AAA pitching every 5 days then in Detroit throwing 2 innings every couple days. That's tough to do though, since Miner is proving he can pitch at the big league level. Polanco is the classic #2 hitter, smart, can handle the bat...and is terrific hitting to the opposite field. And with Granderson being the only guy with any real speed, you need Polanco batting behind him for when he gets on. Polanco just does alot that doesnt show up in the stats...great character guy as well. Unlike Soriano who bitched and moaned about moving to the OF.. As for the rotation, ive been thinking about that as well. Things just seem to have a way of working themselves out...either Maroth will have a setback and be out all year, or Miner will start getting hit up (i hope not of course!). It'll settle itself i bet.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 1, 2006 On another note, What's going to happen with the Tigers rotation when Maroth gets healthy? I sure as hell don't want to see him take Zach Miner's spot. Leyland has talked about using a six-man rotation in the second half of the season to protect the arms of the younger pitchers (in other words, he doesn't want Verlander throwing too many innings). That would leave spots for both Miner and Maroth.

Maroth is a stud, and a lefty. Miner is good but let's not get ahead of ourselves, he has only played 5 games.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2006 I was thinking about this as i was watching the game Friday...and Mario and Rod mentioned this today. TRADE FOR SEAN CASEY, a lefty who can hit for avg is what this team needs...plus he's another good character guy. Also does posses a little power. I'd love to get him, he'd be perfect and he'd basically be Dmitri's replacement.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 2, 2006 Halfway point of the season and the Tigers are 55-26. The pace is for 110-52. Don't think they will finish quite that high, but 45-36 will get them to 100 wins, and a losing record of 39-42 in the second half will take them to the 94 wins threshold, which is the number at which no team in the wild-card era has failed to make the playoffs. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 3, 2006 All-Star lineups announced: Pudge is a starter! Way to go, Tigers fans (and lovers of good common sense) there's no way Jason Varitek should have even been in the game, let alone starting. Kenny Rogers has also been named to the team. Finally, vote for Justin Verlander as the fans' choice among the last 5! He has tough competition with there being a rallying cry for Francisco Liriano. dallas27 7 Report post Posted July 3, 2006 As long as they don't have any more brain farts like they did last night I can see them winning 110. Anywhere from 95-100 would be a good bet though. Nice to see Pudge get in at the last minute.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 4, 2006 So I'm flipping channels tonight and happen to catch a special Baseball Tonight, since whatever game they're showing was on a rain delay, and they're talking about the Braves. Buccigross mentions Smoltz, and Steve Phillips again mentions trading trading Smoltz to Detroit for Zumaya Thank God for ESPN, always on top of the spots news, when DD has has said there's pretty much no way in hell he's trading Zumaya.
