Who's my Tiger? I'm glad you asked. Joel Zumaya baby!! I think I may have to update my avatar.

Not that im a doubting Thomas, I know the guy throws unbelievably hard (and he's also my Tiger!) but im starting to wonder whether these MPH stats are "juiced" a little. Whenever they showed the one on the big scoreboard last night it was always 1 MPH higher than the one on the tv. I also believe the one on the tv may be off at times as well...one time it had Joel at 104 and there wasnt even any mention of it whatsoever, like they just knew the gun was spiked. There's other things that make you wonder at times, like Grilli coming out of nowhere with a 97 which ive seen, or Rodney with a 99.

Yeah, that's true. But he's throw 102 and 103 on the road too. If I remember correctly, Nolan Ryan has the Guiness record at 101. I wonder how Zumaya would do if they put him in front of the Guiness people with a radar gun.

Woooooooo, Zumaya was turnin' and burnin' last night, wasn't he? That strikeout of Joe Mauer was a beauty. Nasty curve on the inside corner, nasty curve on the outside corner, ball high and away, then fastball right down Woodward for strike three. Mauer never took the bat off his shoulder.

And Mauer bats left-handed. What Zumaya did to righties last night was not the sort of thing you repeat to small children.

I also remember when he pitched on ESPN against the Sox he was consistently in the 98-100 range, it was a couple digits lower than what he always hits on FSN Detroit. Sure he couldve been a little tired that day, but just seeing that plus the ungodly 104 that time makes a little bit skeptical. I cant recall seeing them show any of the radar speedboards on the road, i'll have to watch out for that next time. Im not saying he cant hit 101, im sure he does, but that consistent 100-102 (occasional 03)on seemingly every pitch is what im not too sure about.

One question and i'm sure many people will get a laugh out of this. I watched baseball for a couple years now but never got one thing, and decided to ask it now, what do they mean by Wild Card teams? I never really got that. If someone could tell me, I would really appreciate that.

The Wild Card is the team with the best record, that doesn't win their division. If the playoffs were to start today, the Yankees, Tigers, and A's would be in, since they'd each win their division. The White Sox would be the Wild Card team, since, as I said, they have the best record of the teams that didn't win the division. Got it? :)

So the wild card race consists of he second best team in each division?

Its the second place team with the best record. Think of it as like the #4 seed in the NHL.

New game i thought up. The Dr. Z drinking game

During every Tigers broadcast, every time a Dr. Z commercial comes on you have to do a shot. I guarantee you wont be standing in the end. Lets see, 9 innings...giving us 17 commercial breaks . Maybe another 5 or 6 breaks for pitching changes...yeah you'll be looking at around 22-25 shots when its all said and done.

Not really. The second best team in the AL West has no chance at the wild card right now. Right now the race is Red Sox, White Sox, Twins. The third place team in a division (or even the fourth place team if the race is close enough) can be involved if teams in other divisions are bad enough.

But in the end, yes, the wild card will finish second place in their division.

Haven't seen Inge commit an error in I don't know how long. They haven't played a good game since the last time they played Minnesota or whoever it was when they imploded.

What a play by Guillen!!11!11!!11!1!1! Granderson had a nice one too.

A slide was inevitable. It's not like they have been playing poorly, just making one too many mistakes but teams like the ChiSox are going to take advantage of those. Tigs' have Bondo, Verlander and Nate pitching hopefully they can shut down the BoSox.

How 'bout that Jonesy?!? 1- 2 -3 slammin that door in their face!

(hope i dont jinx him for tonight :D )

Is it just me or over the last few weeks has Granderson been striking out an extreme number of times? Seems like every game he's got at least 2 K's. He hasnt hit a homer in ages, and neither has Maggs. Not that a homer is everything...but its like where has the power gone.

Striking out has always been a problem of Granderson's. Maggs has tied his longest streak of not hitting a homerun.

I know K'ing has always an issue for Curtis, even in the minors, but it seems like lately he's been really chasing some s***ty pitches.

They all have been swinging at s***ty pitches. Just a funk. Nothing more, nothing less.

A friend told me last night as i was bowling that Polanco looked to be done for the year...I was devastated! I still havent seen it, but this sucks royally. :( He is so important to this team, at least Omar isnt totally imcompetent though. I think they need to reconfigure the lineup...try Omar at leadoff and Casey batting 2nd (hes really heating up too!). I dont like Granderson/Casey cause of the double lefty thing. Move Granderson down to Casey's spot, which is typically 7th.

They have to call up another IF, i hope its not Santiago, lets give Ryan Raburn a shot as a backup. He's been in the organization for a long while now..as does have some power.
