David Wells is active too.

Oops. Fact is, I'm doubly wrong: I think when Wells takes the mound, there's enough of him there to be two pitchers.

Edit: Victory again. Jubilations! 14th shutout of the year as nary a White Sock crosses the plate, Kenny Rogers rediscovers the arm he had in May, and Thames triples to deep center and homers to left-center. No more losing season!!!

Tomorrow Miner goes against Freddy Garcia to try for the landmark 82nd win and make the winning season official. Hopefully this will be the first of many in a row.

Edit again: HA HA HA.

The family added: "We instead prefer to publicly mourn over this loss every day for the next six decades." In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to wear T-shirts with inappropriate slogans.

boston is only 4 games behind chicago for the wild card. Not over by any stretch.

I know on paper its certainly not over, and yeah im jumping the gun as i do with everything, but i sense nothing but turmoil for the BoSox down the stretch. Minnesota will fade soon as well imo, they needed another bat and now without Liriano they dont have the arms to carry them. A few less wins every 5th day is all it takes.

Andrew Miller pitched a scoreless inning in relief for Lakeland Monday, with 2 K's. Still scheduled to join the Tigers in September.

Crede is a Tiger killer.

And Dye, Thome, Konerko, Jenks- etc..I'm seeing a trend.

Nice to see Chris Shelton hitting .297 now down at Toledo, for a while he was holding steady at around .250.

Andrew Miller's line through 2 relief appearances at Lakeland: 3IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 Hit allowed, 6 K's.

Miller is getting the call-up, along with Alexis Gomez, for Tuesday's game. Colby Lewis and Brent Clevlen will be sent down. Why Clevlen? He's been hitting like he deserves to stay in the majors for 20 years and his defense has been stellar, especially his arm. Gomez is a lefty at the plate, that's the only reason I can think of.

Im thinking Clevlen will be back September 1st. They may have wanted the lefty Gomez for late inning work against guys like Mariano Rivera and Farnsworth...probably figured Clevlen wouldnt play this series anyway so why not do this move and then bring him back in a few days.

I cant ******* wait to see Miller...5 innings, only 2 hits, and 9Ks were his final Lakeland stats. I mean if he works out, can you imagine having a Zumaya/Miller combo? Talk about getting a strikeout when you need it..

Yeah, I can see that. They purchased Gomez's contract from Toledo, so I think it's more permanent....so he'll likely be around for September. Then bring Clevlen up when the rosters expand.

What I love is that Miller is a lefty. Perfect complement to Zumaya. If he pitches in Detroit like he did in Lakeland (granted, the jump from Single-A to the bigs is pretty enormous)......but still....being able to bring in Zumaya, Miller, or Rodney from the pen like that....we will OWN the late innings of games. And Walker, not forgetting about him....there isn't a left-handed batter in the league he can't get out. Grilli will be there in case the starter gets shellacked, he's a nice luxury to have because the starter can come out early before the trouble really starts and you can get three or four innings out of Grilli before you turn it over to the best fastball in all of baseball. And lets be honest....the ol' Rollercoaster has a deceptively high ERA, because it's only been in a couple innings that he's really been hit hard, 5 runs here and 4 runs there....for most of the season, he's been lock-down.

Our bullpen is unfair.

Sean Casey is the fastest runner ever. Seriously though. If I were to compare Sean Casey with a vehicle it would have to be the CT2004 (a cement truck). He's such a damn ogre. And must every Detroit sports team take it up the pooper hole by the umps / refs? That called third strike on Guillen was horrendous.

This thread needs some life. This series against the Twins is huge. The Tigs need to at least split the series to keep the Twins from gaining ground.

Good start last night. Verlander looked pretty sharp, although I thought he went about one inning too many. The bats looked pretty good too.

Sunday's match is Bonderman v. Santana. That's going to be great.
