mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 I missed the U-M/MSU game tonight because I was at the Ferris/MSU game, but after seeing the score I'm glad I missed it. U-M basketball is a joke
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 It was close for most of the game...pretty poorly played all around though. Neitzel and Morgan came through for MSU in the second half.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 I'm fine with Neitzel tearing us apart. I'm used to it since he did it twice a year for 4 years while I was in high school.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 Sorry Weasel fans, despite Lester Abram thinking the gap has closed, and despite Petway's killer raps about UM basketball, MSU is still the big brother when it comes to hoops. Even though the Spartans did everything they could to give the game away last night.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 Sorry Weasel fans, despite Lester Abram thinking the gap has closed, and despite Petway's killer raps about UM basketball, MSU is still the big brother when it comes to hoops. True But I sure wouldn't get too excited if I were a State fan. Still gotta play one in Crisler, after all. And that was an UGLY game. I turned it off when MSU went up by 8 or so. I could tolerate the ugliness as long as it was close. You know it's a pretty poor game when they're showing stats that say there's been more shot-clock violations than free-throw attempts. If that's the kind of game MSU brings in order to beat Michigan, even if they do make the tourney it'll be one-and-done.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted February 14, 2007 Believe me, I'm not exactly excited about the win. I'm happy they won, I'm happy I don't have to listen to Wolverine fans today, and I'm glad that someone other than Neitzel stepped up. Nice job by Raymar Morgan, he's going to be huge. But other than that, I wasn't impressed by MSU. Here's a good picture from the Detroit News. To be fair, Michael Moore isn't a UM alum. He went to UM Flint and dropped out. And I really wish he would ******* stop wearing the MSU hat! On the other hand, this week on To Catch a Predator, they caught a guy wearing a UM hat. I thought Moore went to U-M Flint, and then MSU (because he wears the hat all the time) They forgot to add President Gerald R. Ford

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted February 16, 2007 According to MLive, the UM basketball team will finish with the lowest attendance in 25 years. Perhaps they ought to change the phrase to "Leaders and the best, as long as we're winning." As far as the argument that UM fans just don't care about basketball, I say bulls***. They don't care because the team sucks. If UM had MSU like success in hoops (without cheating ) every Wolverine fan that says wake him up when football season starts would be packing Chrisler. I think a lot of the blame falls at the University though. They have a crappy facility and Amaker clearly isn't the guy to coach a winning team. He's got some talent, just think about what Izzo could do with those kids.

They have a crappy facility and Amaker clearly isn't the guy to coach a winning team. He's got some talent, just think about what Izzo could do with those kids. Thats exactly right. I read somwhere U-M has the worst facilities in the Big Ten for basketball. They don't even have a practice court. People care a lot about U-M basketball, but would you go to a game when they are playing teams like Wofford, Maryland Baltimore County, and Delaware State? I know I wouldn't...it's a waste of time. If they brought more schools like UCLA/Georgtown to Crisler the place wouldn't have an attendence problem.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 16, 2007 Michigan basketball is like Michigan State football anymore...good start, get people cautiously pumped, and then predictably plummet before the Big Ten season starts. At least Amaker cleaned up the program. As good as Ohio State basketball is, it still doesnt hold a candle to football around campus. We go and we truly care, but losing in the NCAA tourney would be much less damaging than say...what happened January 8th. Talk about a collective depression. Yes, but at the same time, if you bring in teams of UCLA/Georgetown caliber and keep getting blown out, who wants to see that? And Hockeytown Red Wings, as much as we Spartans love Izzo and our basketball program, if MSU ever got good at football, it would dwarf the attention hoops gets. MSU is a basketball school, only because we're not good enough to be a football school.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 Yes, but at the same time, if you bring in teams of UCLA/Georgetown caliber and keep getting blown out, who wants to see that? It's better just because of the chance of an upset. Look at last season when UCLA came to Ann Arbor....U-M was in it till the end. I think they lost by 8 points or something like that. The game went back and forth. UCLA is much more attractive then Wofford anyday.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 18, 2007 Well, Michigan may have extended their season just a bit by beating Indiana. That alone won't be enough though. Four games left: at Illinois, at Minnesota, vs. MSU, vs. OSU. The first three are probably must-wins. 8-8 in the Big Ten is probably worth an NIT bid. 9-7 might do the trick, but even so they would have to at least not flame out in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. It's gonna be dicey. UVA update: last weekend sucked, getting blown out by Virginia Tech. I think the team just sputtered out after too many close emotional wins and a lot of games tightly packed together. VT is NOT the game I'd have chosen for that to happen though. Fortunately got it back together for a win over Florida State - always a pleasure beating Florida State - and now are tied in first again at 9-3. UNC beat Boston College last night to also go to 9-3, and VT probably will be there by the end of today. Very doable schedule left for the 'Hoos: at Miami, vs. Georgia Tech, vs. Virginia Tech, at Wake Forest. All are winnable and I think the absolute worst-case scenario should see UVA at 11-5, 20-9. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 I just thought of an idea. I've been thinking of people to replace Amaker with, and I finally found one that makes sense. Rudy Tomjonavich! I know he left the NBA because of health, but I did some research on it, and sounds like he's okay. He played for U-M, has won 2 NBA rings as a coach, and a gold medal. Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) 51 seconds left for Sparty to pull of the upset! State or die! Izzo looked to be crying after they won. Thank you Sparty! Edited February 21, 2007 by Hockeytown Red Wings

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Watching that game brought nightmares back to me when Neitzel would tear my school apart with his circus shots, and game breaking baskets. It was a good game to watch.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Great, Michigan State pulls off the upset of the year in the Big Ten which will lead to Ohio State being #1 in the country in both polls. Is this a great year to be a Michigan fan or what??? Thank God for Virginia and the ACC (and more specifically, for Sean Singletary) or I'd go nuts.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 We still have to play Wisconsin Sunday before the new polls come out.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 MAJOR AWESOMENESS: CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia men's basketball team is preparing for the stretch run of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and as it has all season, the team will rely heavily on the leadership and play of J.R. Reynolds. The senior guard from Roanoke, Va., is one of the leading scorers in the ACC and has been a major factor in the Cavaliers' success this season. Reynolds will play a prominent role in UVa's upcoming games at Miami on Feb. 21 and at the John Paul Jones Arena against Georgia Tech on Feb. 24. Now, let's go One-On-One with J.R. Reynolds -- (.....interview interview interview......) Question: What is your favorite sports team? Reynolds: The Detroit Pistons. I know nobody gives a damn, but I don't care. Kickass. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2007 Great win by the Spartans last night. I think I cheered the most I have for a MSU game in a long time. I think it is mostly because this team doesn't have the same high expectations that previous MSU teams have had. That win should all but seal up a NCAA bid for MSU and if they match up right....there is no reason for them to not make a small run in the tourny. Maybe a sweet 16 run. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 22, 2007 Maybe I will get fried for this, but why did MSU fans storm the court? Yes I know Wisky is No. 1, but in my opinion MSU is still a better basketball program then Wisconson. I thought storming the court was stupid.
