Claude Lemieux on Pros vs. Joes

I would drop the gloves with him as well but I wouldn't have been dropped, not by him. I can skate just as well as him , i'm a hell of alot stronger the he can ever be (I don't think he can bench 420Lbs). I boxed for 3 1/2 years. I weigh 245LBS and i'm his height, And I still run regularly. I wish I could be on that show against him. I would have painted my face with the Winged wheel so that he can see me coming.

 Atta boy.

Hockeytown Red Wings, sorry, I just picked a random resonse and must have hit 'quote' instead of reply. Not directing that comment to you at all.

Bringback91, I don't disagree with at all about your assessment about Lemieux. He's an idiot and should be despised.

I was only commenting on how many people here said they would have fought him on the show when that's all talk and regardless of whether the guy turtled from time to time, he could still hold his own. The same people that say "I would have fought Lemieux" would probably not say the same thing about McCarty. But in their rematch Lemieux more than held his own against Dmac. If those same people think they're tougher than Dmac then obviously they know something I don't. But most casual hockey players wouldn't last 10 seconds with a guy of his fistic experience.

What kind of makes me laugh about your assesment of Lemieux (which is bang-on) is that the same thing could be applied to Chris Chelios. Chelios is known around the league for doing a lot of dirty stuff. He slashes, butts, cheapshots but he never fights anyone he knows he's going to lose to. Doesn't anyone here remember how he'd target Yzerman all the time while he played with Chicago? Stevie even dropped the gloves with him. But there have been numerous times in Cheli's career where a tough opponent challenged Cheli only to see him turn and run. He did it with Probie, Wendel Clark and more recenlty Todd Bertuzzi.

Just food for thought.

Hank- I agree with everything you've said in this thread. Claude would indeed beat the hell out of 95% of the posters just like you said. Nobody likes to talk about the McCarty rematch because of how close that fight ended up being. Its like its erased from everyone's memory! Hey, remember the Tkachuk fight from the World Cup of Hockey? Claude got his nose broke right off the bat by a Tkachuk jab during the squareoff, but rather than drop down to the fetal position like most here assume he would, he went toe to toe with him and actually ended up on top if i remember correctly. Also as for the Draper comment, there is some sentiment of truth to what he said. Why is it that if Claude was such a wimp that Draper himself (who's dropped 'em a few times) never went with him? Its funny because i hear all the time about how Claude never fought his own battles. What about Draper?!

Claude is a ***** with no freinds. He got divorced from his wife since she didnt love him and lets just say if it was a slippery road i'd " Lose control of my hummer" and ******* run that ***** over. Claude lemeuix is one of the few people in this world who i would be indiffirent to hear died.

" Did you hear claude lemuix died today"

O............. Im Hungery for Chocolate Turtles.

Seriously, I wouldn't mind to see him dead. Im not kidding, at all. If i saw that punk I'd hit him with my stick in the head and than stomp on his neck with a skate. He almost got beaten to death by Mac!

Edit= Toned it down a bit for a more pg-13ish rating

HA , many people would feel that way^^

Anyways, I`d like to see Lemieux try to fight Z Chara (do you think hes that stupid?) Look what happened to McCabe, lol, observe.

Internet tough guys make me laugh. Claude has been there and done that. He isn't a heavy, but he hung with Dmac in their one fight where Claude wasn't jumped. He was dirty and mean and cocky, but he was also a very good hockey player and very effective in his role.

If you can outskate and outfight a guy like Claude who had a 20 year pro career, you should be getting paid to play somewhere. Claude Lemieux could outskate every single tough guy in the league, if you can skate with him, you would have a job. Granted 245 is overweight for a 6'0 guy that only benches 420lbs (Brind'Amour and Lapointe are stronger despite the fact that they spot you 45 pounds - and neither of them are any tougher than Claude was) so you'ld be expected to cut some weight, but immagine what a great skater you would be at 200! Also note that boxing doesn't make you a great or even good hockey fighter, see Neil Sheehy.

"Why is it that if Claude was such a wimp that Draper himself (who's dropped 'em a few times) never went with him? Its funny because i hear all the time about how Claude never fought his own battles. What about Draper?!"

Quoted for truth. Draper was on the ice plenty in the "revenge" game and all he did to stick up for himself was give a facewash. It's hard to respect a guy who won't even stand up for himself. At least Claude Lemieux would sometimes take his medicine, he was no more cowardly and no more cheap than Draper, Maltby and Chelios have been at various times in their careers.

My sentements exactly. Whenever the name Claude Lemeuix is spoken my fist tightens, and my mind starts fomulating how this ass should pay. For some reason whenever I see a jearsy with an A in the center of it I feel the same way. even though there was payback for what he did to Draper...I still think he has a sizable debt...as well as the whole team.

Uhh...2 things. First, Claude Lemieux is 41 years old. Second, Draper isnt even close to being the caliber of player that Claude was. And when i say not even close, i mean NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Claude always played with alot of heart. I don't think he was as much of a cheap-shot artist as Chelios/Draper/Maltby/McCarty and he never dove like Yzerman and Larionov. I think people are really harsh on him, and his playoff scoring was awesome. He's just the kind of player everyone wants on thier team. You guys would have made it much deeper in rescent playoffs if he was a Wing, right? I'm sure Draper wouldn't have turned his back on that hit if he knew it was coming. He totally invited the hit.

Ummmmmmmmm....................... maybe you haven`t noticed but Lemiuex is a washed up punk ***** who is doing a reality show to pay the bills while Drapes is still flying high in the NHL. Shut down.

Hate on Claude all you want but at least use arguments that make sence. Claude's pro career started in 1983, Draper's in 1990. Claude Lemieux was abetter player than Kris Draper ever was and had a better carreer. HE is not playing today because he is older than Kris Draper. The fact that Jason Williams is playing today and Steve Yzerman isn't doesn't mean that Willy is better and it doesn't mean that Yzerman is washed up. Any profesional sports career that goes past the 20 year mark is pretty succesful IMO, and it should be noted that Draper's will probably end short of it.

Claude was a jerk and he did stupid things that injurred people, but he was a better hockey player than Kris draper ever was and he was much more willing to stick up for himself than people like to think he was. Cowardice did not stop him from fighting Dmac straight up, the only time he turtled on him was when he was jumped - which was just almost as week a move as Claude's idiotic blindside hit on Draper. Hitting people who know you are going to hit them is infinately better than suckering them, especially when you're bigger and supposed to be tough, as Mac was.

I agree.

And look at Bob Probert. I guarentee you I could skate faster than him, and I can outbench him as well. But I would have been killed by him.

And boxing doesn't mean crap on the ice. I play with a guy that has done every martial arts, or hand-to-hand contact sport in the business. From MMA, kickboxing, boxing, judo, tough man competitions, you name it. And yet, I've seen him lose a good amount of scraps on the ice. He's 6'2", 220 lbs and can probably bench 450.

And look at Troy Crowder. The dude was a serious competivie boxer and although he got the best of Probie in their first bout, Probert got revenge. Crowder also got pummled by quite a few other goons in the league (Tony Twist comes to mind - yow!). And I'm pretty sure Crowder could outskate, out bench and outbox almost every goon in the league.

Technique is huge in hockey fights. It's nothing like street fighting or boxing. Lots of hockey goons are terrible fighters off the ice.

Unless you've been in 20 or more actual hockey fights, I'd say you'd get absolutely murdered by Claude Lemieux. All the bench pressing, running and boxing training goes out the window on the ice if you haven't actually fought on the ice before.

Lucky for me that I have fought on ice before and I may add that I have been rocked once, but round 2 i felt his nose crunch. Bring Lemieux if he turtles with me i'llyank his helmet off and knee him in the head

I should also note that this show more than likely has you sign papers saying that you can't fight, much like Survivor or any other reality show has. If you did, you'd get sued up the ying-yang. So end of story.

So you've had 1 or 2 fights on the ice? And against who? Johnny Sixpack in your beer league? I'm sure that will help you against Claude Lemieux.

And for crying out loud people, he turtled ONCE and it was basically because he was jumped by McCarty.

Look for some Lemieux fights on Youtube. The guy was no wimip. Heck, just look at his rematch with McCarty. He scored a draw with him. Some even think he won the fight. So I guess that means you could beat McCarty in a hockey fight too then, eh?

I love internet tough guys. One great thing about them is that they can't prove 1% of the crap they espouse on these boards.

I sorta agree with you.

People, if you are all faster, better, stronger, and tougher than Claude, why are you not in the NHL and why haven`t you won any cups or how come no one knows your name? no offense.
