Owen Nolan

Theres a good chance we might be picking him up by the trade deadline, now that Doan has re-signed with the Coyotes. (Coyote scouts have attended the last few games).I personally think he would add some toughness to the team, and is a reliable forward. Though I still would rather get Foresberg.......then maybe Guerin......and if we couldn't pick those two up, then I think Nolan would be a good choice.

I'd love to see Foppa here as well but the most glaring need of our team is a solid winger. Guerin rather than Nolan but both would be improvements. At least both of them have been healthy all season. Nolan would probably be a bit cheaper option though(?)

But if we can get Foppa AND a winger even better!

Id be pissed if the Wings picked up Nolan without exhasuting all possibilities with Guerin and Tkachuk. Id prefer both those guys to Nolan simply because they are more fragile, but if Guerin and Tkachuk are unreachable, Nolan would be a great alternative.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but the Wings wouldnt be scrambling around right now if theyd offered to Nolan what they offered to Willy...or a lousy 400k more for Guerin. Its kind of funny given the way this board was calling for the Wings to let go of Willy and go after Guerin and Nolan.

Of course they are asking the price of Tkachuk and Guerin. But I think their prices are too much. Holland doesn't want to lose much youth. So cheaper, but potential guy like Nolan would be very reasonable try.

Williams + 4th <> Nolan + Laraque.

I'm all for it.

"Winger Owen Nolan missed Wednesday night's contest with a neck injury. It was the first game this season that Nolan has missed and his status at this time is unknown. - Arizona Republic"

Hopefully this is nothing big. He would be a very good, inexpensive alternative...or even addition to whoever we may pick up.

Maybe he's not really hurt, maybe they don't want him to be before the trade goes thorugh? :D

The thought came across my mind. I was one who wanted to take a chance on him at the beginning of the season. I can't remember what he signed for but I think it was a bit high for the risk.

I guess I wouldn't mind Nolan as an addition to someone else we pick up.

But if he's it, man am I gonna be disappointed.

Nolan was washed up 3 years ago when he played with the leafs.Trading for him is just for the sake of trading.Too slow and no longer tough,he's definitely in his golden years.

Anything more than a 6th or 7th pick for him would be a waste.

yah, that's kinda how I feel about him.

I guess it'd be okay if he were sort of a throw in that we got cheap. But if he's "the move," then I've pretty much had it with Holland.

Don't forget last year, the big Cory Cross aquisition.Although he had one big fight,he played 0 minutes in the playoffs.I was hoping to see him play against Edmonton who ran him out of town.

I'm sorry, but 13 goals is not what i call "too slow and washed up". I understand he's no Foresberg, but he's still a pretty reliable winger and I think he would do a LOT better in Williams' place.

You would probably be better in Williams place.

Actually, he is like Forsberg in that he can go down to injury for long stretches in the snap of a finger.

Agreed. I really think the Wings could manage with him and Laraque. Sure either the St. Louis duo would be better but last time i checked the wings r third in point standings. We need toughness first for the playoffs. While Foppa's offense would help us I think that to be a competetive playoff team such big trades arent really nessasary. Basically what im saying is Jamal Mayers or Nolan arent as good as Guerien but would sure help a lot.

Cory Cross didn't play in the playoffs because the coaches would be afraid he'd have a hard time playing in front of an Edmonton crowd that ripped him a new one every time he stepped on the ice when he still played for them. So the saying goes anyways.

Guerin+Mayers or Nolan+Laraque would be nice packages. Let Hudler and Williams go. Then trade Lang away in a three-way-deal and get Forsberg.

Just imagine:

Forsberg - Zetterberg - Samuelsson

Holmström - Datsyuk - Guerin/Nolan

Maltby - Draper - Laraque/Mayers

Franzen - Filppula - Cleary

They would probably be more like

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Homer

Cleary-Forsberg-Guerin/Nolan

Maltby-Draper-Laraque/Mayers

Franzen-Fillipula-Kopecky

The funny thing is, the tough guys in these scenerios would play on Maltby's line. You know they've probably been wanting to kick his ass for years. Now they'd have to stick up for him! Ha!

How do you know there's a good chance? Has there been any sources between the two media outlets or any major sports/NHL outlets supporting this?

While I'd be all for having Nolan in 2nd/3rd line role, this is the first time I've read that there is a good chance of him coming here, and no disrespect to you or anything, I'd like to see some more credible sports sources.
