Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 1, 2007 #1 Boston is a better team now than during interleague. Same about Colorado too. #2 Did you watch game 3 when Boston came out blazing and went up by 6 runs before they let Colorado back in the game. That game more than any, proved that the Red Sox were the better team. I said that Boston was the better team, I just don't agree that the Rockies were massively inferior. I love the move the Tigers made to get Renteria. There's no reason to horde the prospects now that the team is competitive enough to make a legitimate World Series run. I don't know about signing a guy like Schilling for a year, though. If they're spending money, they should spend it on guys with more than just one season (maybe) left in the tank. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 what does everyone think about the Twins unloading talent this offseason? Torrii Hunter is a free agent, Johan Santana is on the last year of his contract & might be traded. I don't see the Tigers getting involved in either one, even tho I would love to have Santana here. Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 I really like the Renteria trade, but in hindsight it sure would be nice to have Jurrjens and Hernandez still here for trade bait for a really good reliever. Maybe Houston would have coughed up Lidge if we threw enough at them. Losing Zumaya is about the biggest blow this team could have. As of right now, we're in some s***. I would count Zumaya out for the entire season, as even if he comes back theres no way in hell he'll pitch hard and effectively. As we saw at the end of last season, a Zumaya even at 96-97 mph was a shadow of what we saw in '06. Nowhere near the effectiveness and struggled to get guys out at times. This is horrible news, who knows how long or if he'll ever get that 100 mph velocity back. With Zumaya's future as closer in question now, we may just go ahead and take a shot at Francisco Cordero...which would would spell the end of Jones. Of course we'd still have to add 2 guys in addition to Cordero...its really a mess.

He obviously has something to prove, and he only wants to with the Tigers. You can't turn that attitude down. We will still need more then just him though... Hey, and there's no shame in getting hurt playing Guitar Hero. I can hardly type today, because of that damn game!!

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 anyone else a little happy that Joe Torre got a good coaching job in LA. I grew up and the dodgers were always tough, I wouldn't mind them being a tough team again. Rather see the Dodgers and Giants battling for the NL West than Rockies and D-Backs. Guest jaytan Report post Posted November 6, 2007 I don't much care for Joe Torre and think he should've just retired already. As for the Dodgers and Giants being competitive, I guess that's OK, but I don't mind seeing a good variety of teams have their shot. I'd hate for the National League to become as terrible as the AL is, with the big money teams running the show. Speaking of big money teams, everytime I hear Peter Gammons on the radio, he hints that he thinks Illitch will spend for A-Rod.

Inge is more than likely and I just hate to get rid of a great fielder, who had a down year last year.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 The Tigers are about to deal for Cubs outfielder Jacque Jones, says the Freep. They'd send Omar Infante Chicago's way. Sounds like a quality deal to me. Jones is a dependable .280 hitter. He only hit 5 homers last year, but he averaged 21 HR's and 73 RBI's between 2000 and 2006. Good steady bat - about a .040 upgrade over Marcus Thames. His contract expires after this coming season so it sounds like Dombrowski's found a nice stopgap between now and the arrival of Cameron Maybin. There are still rumblings that the Tigers are going after Dontrelle Willis, but I don't see it happening. I like the lineup more and more..... CF - Curtis Granderson 2B - Placido Polanco RF - Magglio Ordonez DH - Gary Sheffield 1B - Carlos Guillen SS - Edgar Renteria LF - Jacque Jones C - Pudge Rodriguez 3B - Brandon Inge Guaranteed, all of those guys except Inge hit over .270. And all but Pudge and Polanco should be good for at least 15 homers.

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted November 12, 2007 I like the trade as well. It was pretty clear Infante didn't have a future in Detroit, and it adds a left handed bat to the lineup.
