Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Big Win tonight by my boys - the Rockies gave 'em a scare there with Hollidays three run blast, but they swung the momentum right back in their favour with Lugo, Crisp and Pedroia. These guys are on fire, and with Ellsbury leading off the way he did tonight, I don't see the series making it back to Boston...as much as I would love for the Sox to win it at home - I think it will be over before it gets there. Lester vs. Cook should be interesting tomorrow night. GO SOX.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Well I know 4 Red Sox fans, and I'm very happy for them. Unless someone I know is either a Toronto fan or a fan of a Detroit rival, I'm glad for them when their team wins a Championship. I usually tell them I know how it feels and to enjoy. I also enjoy it when their non Toronto and Detroit rival teams win because it brings back a lot some great memories. You can't get jealous if you've seen 7 Professional Detroit Championships (and counting) in your lifetime (I was born in 1976), you enjoy it with your friends. Atleast that's how I feel. Edit: I'll add to my feel good post.... To every Red Sox fan on lgw, enjoy your 2nd World Series Championship in 4 years!! Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Wow, I NEVER thought they would sweep. I was so sure Col would atleast split at home. The better team won this series. Boston totally deserves it. Next season though, it's a whole new ballgame. And the Detroit Tigers are looking to get back to the World Series. God I already cant wait for the old english D to be back! rwfan007 18 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 now that A-Rod is on the market, do the Tigers make a play for him for SS?
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 29, 2007 now that A-Rod is on the market, do the Tigers make a play for him for SS? I say it's an absolute MUST. Ilitch has the $$$. We need a shortstop. And A-Rod is an even better SS than he is a 3rd baseman. We would be fools to not atleast try and sign this guy. Im sure he would love to sign with a team like Detroit. A-Rod wants to win the championship. And we will most definitely be a championship contender next year. So all I know is, if we do end up signing him, major league baseball better watch out. The two frontrunners for league MVP on the same team??? That would be soooo amazing.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 This was an awesome team by the Red Sox. I personally think this was the best team of the decade. I would take this team over any team that won the previous 6 years, including the 2004 red sox.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 now that A-Rod is on the market, do the Tigers make a play for him for SS? No. Wishful thinking. It'll probably take $30 million a year for five or six years. Ilitch has money but not that kind of money. Feh. Disappointing end to the season. I hate the Red Sox. rwfan007 18 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 well, no A-rod for the Tigers... Jair Jurrjens and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez to Atlanta for Edgar Renteria. http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/press_r...sp&c_id=det
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Link Edgar Reneria is a Tiger!! WOO HOO!! Sorry to see Jurreans go but well worth the move in order to get a great SS. Edited October 29, 2007 by timothy1997
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I liked Jerrjeans, but Renteria is a great pickup. Now Guilen can offically move to first. The guy I want after watching the playoffs is Mike Lowell. It's a upgrade over Inge.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I liked Jurreans as well. Assuming Rogers comes back, who's the 5th starter?
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 hmmm... Verlander, Bonderman, Robertson, Rogers, (Durbin, Bazardo, Tata, Miller, Free Agent?)
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Great trade! Gorkys Hernandez was expendable because of Maybin, and Jurrjens although he looked good...was never regarded as a sure fire prospect. The fact that he came up and pitched good in a few starts increased his value significantly. With Porcello entering the system having signed a major league contract, he will be on the brink of the majors in 2 years. Miller will be great, dont let the bumps fool you. We're fine in the pitching department without Jair. They said before that they'd like to leave the 5th spot open for whatever young guy grabs it in the spring. I fully expect it to be between Miller and Bazardo. If Miller looks good, he'll get it. Bazardo would more-so be the fall back plan. Of course you never know who else could just sneak up and grab it, like a Dallas Trahern. Edited October 29, 2007 by Lou_Siffer
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I am suprised Atlanta gave up Renteria...After a crappy year in Boston in 05, he looked like he settled in nicely with the Braves. I think he feels more comfortable in the NL, but I guess we will see. He was frustrating to watch as a Sox fan. The Braves maybe freeing up money to resign Teixeria? As for A-Rod, I don't care where the guy ends up, as long as its not with the Red Sox. Him and Varitek have some ugly history fromo 2004 and the World Baseball Classic, and I'd rather have Varitek and Lowell on my team then A-Rod...the guy seems like a bit of a Cancer. I am hoping he shuffles off the NL so I can ignore him for the rest of his career.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 arod is going to the cubbies, lowell should resign with the red sox so dont look for him in a tigers jersey. people forget that lowell is near the end of his career. I would rather have inge then lowell at 3rd. Some bullpen help would be nice tho.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Even with Renteria, if we dont add a significant arm to the pen i'll consider this offseason a disappointment. I dont have a list of names available, but we had better get an upper echelon guy.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I'd also like to see the Tigers get some bullpen help. I'm really excited for Renteria, but I hate giving up Jurrjens and I'd heard good thinks about Gorkys. I have a feeling we're not done this offseason though, I think we're goin for it all. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Disappointing effort by Colorado. They just rolled over and died from the beginning. It's too bad, because I would have really liked them to win. In reality, though, it was unfeasable to think Colorado was going to win. Boston was just too talented, and some of their higher paid players make more money then the entire Rockies payroll. When you have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball anyways, it's expected you'll win. Now, on a more positive note: great trade by DD to land Reneria! This is exiting, especially considering we gave up hardly anything for him. It's too bad we had to give up a good prospect in Jurrjens, but Reneria addresses a glaring need at SS. Hernandez can be easily filled, so there's no real loss there. Great trade!
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) This trade is sooo great! Dombrowski is the ******* man! I was hoping we would aquire Renteria for months now. Im sooo ******* pumped! And I dunno if anyone watched Sportscenter today, but the baseball tonight crew said that even though the Tigers just aquired Renteria, they STILL think that the Tigers are one of the front runners for A-ROD!!! My GOD I hope they're right. Cause IMO, they might as well hand us the trophy before the season even starts. That lineup would be just unreal. Gorkys is supposed to be pretty good, but when you have Maybin and Granderson...theres not a need for him. Thats the great thing about having some young depth! You can pawn off the excess as trade bait. I looked at the names of relievers available, unfortunately theres not a whole lot there. As for non-closers, David Riske is the one i'd want if his option with KC isnt picked up. He's always been a consistent sub 4 guy, and this year posted a 2.45. I liked him when he was with Cleveland. Not a blockbuster addition, but at least its someone you can use so we dont have to rely on Rodney's ass as much.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 we dont need A-Rod... we dont need to take out a 2nd mortgage on comerica just to make one pompous over-paid athlete a Tiger. we have a solid lineup, spend the money on the pen.

Riske would be a great pickup, as far as someone cheap that we don't have to give up anything for. He's a serviceable closer, and he's a hell of a lot better than Rodney. we dont need A-Rod... we dont need to take out a 2nd mortgage on comerica just to make one pompous over-paid athlete a Tiger. we have a solid lineup, spend the money on the pen. Why not? If the Tigers can pull it off, then I'm all for it. A-Rod would add another power hitter on this team to go along with Maggs and Sheffield, and that can't hurt. I think we'd see a much more motivated A-Rod here in Detroit. The Yankees suck: highest payroll in baseball, and while they do consisitantly make the playoffs, they go out like lambs every year. Ummmm....does LEAGUE MVP mean anything to you????? Sure we dont absolutey NEED A-Rod. But with no salary cap in baseball, it doesnt really matter how much it will cost us. As long as Ilitch is willing to spend the money(which he does have) theres no money issues here. And with Brandon Inge's bat literally being non-existant(.240 average). A-Rod would be a PERFECT fit at 3rd base. And our lineup would be unstoppable. Im so sick of people bitching and moaning about A-Rod being over payed. The dude is the BEST HITTER IN THE GAME. So of course he's gonna get fat contracts. Its not A-Rod's fault he gets paid so much. If anything, MLB GM's would be to blame. But the fact is, A-Rod is just as good defensively as Inge is. Yet he is the best hitter in baseball. And obviously some people think we could use him. Considering 3 outta the 4 guys on baseball tonight said he's Detroit-bound. Hopefully they're correct.
