We shouldn't trade CLEARY or WILLIAMS

Brett Hull had the same reputation coming in, but the leadership in the Wings locker room kept him in check. With all the leaders we have on this team, the guy's attitude is the least of my worries. I'm more conserned with his health and rust, considering he's missed most of the season.

Burt was healthy his whole career in Vancouver and never saw the second round - comparing any aspect of him and Hull is impossible - it is like comparing apples and oranges. Vancouver was full of leaders as well - Naslund, Ohlund, Linden, Morrison, Jovo, etc.. - guys who would wear the C or A on any team - and Burt's attitude helped to lead to nowhere and chaos.

I hope his injury worries are enough to scare Kenny from this potential move.

I agree that, right now, we aren't getting the most out of Dano because Lang has been just awful in the late going and Williams has been perpetually worthless since Day 1. Earlier in the year when Lang was on fire, Dan was in the right spot to get those passes and made no mistake drilling them into the net; to me that means he's got good offensive instincts. Not great, but 20 goals (plus everything else that Dano brings) shouldn't be out of the question if he's with decent linemates.

20 goals is big. I think Cleary would be worth ~1.2m if he were to play like this. Had Lang continued playing well, I don't think Cleary achieving 30 goals would have been out of the question.

As is, I bet the guy is practically tearing his hair out with frustration. He probably has a Lang voodoo doll perforated with pins.

Whether or not Bert was healthy throughout the rest of his career is irrelevant. He has played 7 games in his career and is coming off of a bad injury. He will surely not be in top form.

As an analogous situation: Somebody pushing the signing of Bondra remarked, in response to claims that Bondra never showed up in the playoffs, that Bondra had done well in the '97-'98 postseason. ARice--I think it was him--responded "and we are entering the '07 postseason."

Guys are getting really hard on Cleary and especially Williams a lot lately. I think it would be a mistake to trade either of these guys. Williams is definately having a down year, but he's shown he has great skill with the puck, epecially on break aways and shootouts. Last year he put up 21 goals when playing with better players and I think he would do the same if he had a better center than Lang(who should not stay next season). These two are 28 (Cleary) and 26 (Williams) years old and hold a valuable part of our future. They might each be 25 goal scorers with a good center and are our only good young north American forwards on the team right now. I love Europeans like Dats and Z, but I think you need a mix to win the cup.

are you high? Williams is probably the most useless player on the team (him or Lilja). This is the guy who missed the empty net last night from like 3 feet away. This is the guy who has had passes handed to him that should have resulted in gimmie goals, that he can't put in. This is the guy that for every goal he has this season are pretty much crap goals....and by crap goals i mean empty netters, or lucky bounces. He needed to step up, he hasn't.........time to go bye-bye. I honestly consider most of our prospects better then him. As for Cleary, I think he does have plenty of potential and I'm all for keeping him. Just need to wait for another streak.

Just because his team didn't advance in the playoffs doesn't mean anything. People said the Wings could never win with Yzerman (using the same logic).

Again, apples and oranges - Burtuzzi has also seldom lived up to the hype he projected. Yzerman continued to perform and show leadership even when the Wings came up short. Burt reflected nothing but negativity in performance and attitude in Vancouver. The feeling amongst Canuck fans out here is that they are Stanley Cup contenders and stronger then previous years, just because he is gone. Not being a Canucks fan I think there is more to it such as getting Luongo in goal that makes them a contender.

The Keenan trade sending Luongo to Van for Bert may well go down as one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. I hope Kenny does not spend a roll of tape for this guy! Let alone the injury issue........................

Cleary is not going to be dealt. I dont know why this is being discussed. And as mentioned above by all of those with sense here "Cleary is a more complete player than Williams." We'll trade Williams if we can...

Yeah who ever will take him :P

Maybe there is a GM out there who likes to gamble?

Williams is garbage and never should have been resigned. That money should have gone towards signing someone useful like Nolan, Guerin, etc. Cleary is a nice, inexpensive depth player who should stick around.

I say we trade him to Vancouver for the rights of Sven Butenschon

Hey, he'd be an upgrade over Lilja as a 7th defensemen. :P

Williams is bad. It's just that simple. Everyone points to the concussion as the benefactor, but he wasn't that good even before it. And besides that, it was one hit. How does Lindros still manage to be a (somewhat) better player then Williams when he's had about 5 or 6 concussions over his career? I know Lindros is nothing of what he used to be, but he doesn't blow in every and all imaginable aspects like Williams does.

And the shootout thing... Give me a break. Games don't go into a shootout every night of the week, so saving him for that purpose means he'd be taking up roster space for an event that might never happen. We don't need to save the roster space and cap room for a guy who does basically nothing. We might as well sign a 7 foot monster who will at least fight people if we need to be that vague with the final spot. Williams has no upside, so there is much better use that can be made with his roster spot.
