Well after 60 games, we sit just a point off top spot and with 14 home and just 8 away games left can we finish up on top of the pile for a 3rd straight season? Many of us believed that this would be a tough season for the boys but they are producing the goods despite all our moans and groans on the boards. So do we think we have a genuine shot at the President's trophy, I would settle for wining the division, but that 1st spot gets you the home split down the line and with our home form it could prove to be a big plus. Still I would be happy with 8th spot if it guaranted us Stanley at season's end.

we definitely are dong better that I thought after losing stevie and shanny. hank and pav started slow, but now they are arguably the best line in the league along with homer. lets keep this roll going and get as high in the standings as we can

the last thing I want is to see Wings facing yet abother 8th seeded team. so far it looks like Wild and I'm not sure if I want to see us facing them. I'll definitely prefer to see us at 4th and playing Dallas in round 1.

of NHL trophies I care the President's one is well below Stanley one

Exactly, I'd rather Nashville take the division if the 8th seed is going to be an Oilerlike team of last year. I'm sick of getting knocked out in the first round by the Kings, Ducks, Oilers etc. when they're like 8th or 7th seed. Giguere, Potvin, Roloson - I hate you

Minnesota doesn't scare me at all, I would LOVE to see The Wings finsih 1st in the conference. The Wild are pretty sad away from home (12-18-1)

The only thing that scares me about Minnesota is the fact that they know how to play the trap, which historically hasn't worked to our advantage.

Every team knows how to play the trap. Any team will use it against us if they feel the need to. What worries me more is the speed they have up front. Gaborik, Rolston, Demitra are all fast scoring threats. However, the one thing that gives me hope is the game we played against Dallas. I cant remember a regular season game that reminded me so much of the playoffs over the past three years: No name goalie making all the right moves, lucky goals for the other team, and being shut down by the other team as they play perfect defense. But for the first time, we really worked hard the entire game and ended up pulling it out. Not only that, but I really feel we have a game-breaker nowadays in Henrik Zetterberg. Once we get our second line fixed and possibly a 4th line scrapper to boot, we shouldnt worry so much about who we face.

The other thing is, if we do win the Presidents trophy or even first in the conference, we wont win it having 125 points and with the next highest team having 10 points less. It would be a battle to the end and all that does is get you prepared for the dog fight that is the playoffs.

I could care less who we play. With the way our first line is going, no one can stop it. I know it's bad to be a one line team, but I'm 99% sure no one can stop this line. Zetterberg is flat out amazing, and I wouldn't even feel nervous if it was game seven of the cup finals, one minute left, and we're down by one. As long as he's on the ice, I feel he'll get it done.

Plus, once a trade or two are made, the one line thing won't matter. And going back to the original topic, I don't care who we play, once again. Minnesota is awful on the road, and we've proven we can beat them. Backstrom is a good goalie, but has no playoff experience. If Fernandez gets the starting job back, well, he's just not a good goalie, so there's no reason to worry about him.

As for Calgary, they're probably the team I'd want to play least in the first round. Kipprusoff scares me, and we'd have to go to Calgary, where we seem to get dominated. That, coupled with Iginla, and Phaneuf killing everyone on the team, would make me a bit nervous. But, again, we've proven we can beat them.

Vancouver has very little offense, and mediocre defense. I have no idea why they're so good this year, so I have no comment on this one. Luongo is good though.

San Jose did beat us 3-1 in the season series this year, but MacDonald and Cleary choked the game away at JLA with three minutes left. San Jose shouldn't have won that. The other loss that would never happen again is the one in San Jose where Hasek gave up nine. That would never, ever happen in the playoffs.

Dallas... um, we dominate them. No worries at all.

Anaheim isn't too scary either. Their offense is streaky, and we seem to match up well against them. Plus, they've had one of the worst records in the league since December or something.

So yeah. Bring on whoever, it doesn't really matter.

I demand we win both

Everytime you say something like that...whether it's in a thread like this, or in the GDT...it makes me literally laugh out loud. I just picture the room go dark and a small light just on your face and all of a sudden everything stops and your voice gets real deep and you say something like, I DEMAND A GOAL.

All season long, I have been hoping that we finish 2nd or 3rd in the West, just because playing an 8th seeded team seems to fare badly for us. >_>

It's probably more superstition than anything else, but I am going to bite my fingernails off if we have to play 8th...especially Minnesota. It seems like it's always some crazy goalie who goes on turbo and Fernandez has the potential to do that. But he is injured at the moment, right?

More power to us if we win the President's Trophy, I'd definitely be happy about it obviously.

I'd prefer to play somebody like Calgary/Minnesota (current 7th/8th) vs. San Jose/Dallas (current 5th/6th) in the 1st round, but a few of the teams that were really coasting at the beginning of the season (Nashville, San Jose, Anaheim) are starting to cool down a bit. I'm not saying that they are of zero concern, of course not.

We should be concerned about whoever we play and not be overconfident or cock, but as of now, there is no one team that I can say the Wings have absolutely zero chance against or that just flat out scares the be-jesus out of me.

i think the five games against nashville will decide the division/conference.

Indeed....I've said it before: Kudos the the NHL scheduling for putting 5 of the 8 games between the Wings and Preds in the last 2 months of the season....
