Update on Holland's search for forwards.

I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I thought he took the big contract from Boston as a UFA and Detroit chose not to match it.

I don't remember a whole lot of ill will. Besides, that was a very different team and coaching staff in 2001 than we have now.

According to the 'What it means to be a Red Wing' book, Marty called Kenny with the offer he got from Boston. Essentially crying because it was too good to pass up and knowing that the Wings wouldn't match. Apparently Kenny reassured him that he was doing the right/smart thing by taking the $20M.

Im not so sure about Bert right now. If I had to make a trade now, I'd take Guering over Bert only because of the fact Bert has been injured and hasent played in a while. Maybe if he surprizes everyone in his 2/3 games before the deadline, then I'd take him, but for now I dunno how he will play after the injury  .

I would also pass on Lapointe, even though I really liked him in a Wings uniform. Not sure if Fedotenko is being mentioned in Wings rumors but I'd take him over Marty because hes about 6 years younger, a bit taller, and has better stats. He also scored some goals when Tampa won the cup (including the GWG). Im not completely sure on this but I think Ruslan is faster than Marty. (Fedotenko is also my favorite Non-Wings player in the NHL) but that aside, I just hope we get someone who will make an impact in our playoff run, unlike good ol' Cross...

I'm not too familiar with Fedotenko's ability to hit, but I'd imagine half the reason we'd even be looking at Marty is because he's gritty. idk about everyone else, but I'm sick of teams hitting us hard and we dont having much of an answer for them

i'd take Lapointe back in a heartbeat..

he's had some pretty bad linemates since he left tbh...i think he'd work on our 2nd line, or our checking line

Ok, say we do get Marty back. What exactly is his salary now? and do you think that's the salary we'd have to take?

i think he's on about 2.5, so we'd have to take about 800k of that..

i think he's signed for next year though as well, so that may create issues...

i'm not saying it's going to happen and i'm not saying it's necessarily a great idea...

but i always loved him as a wing, and i think he could do a job for us

Well, whether it's 2.4/5, that's not bad at all. That would be a great signing, but I'd hope Kenny wouldn't just stop there. I'd love to add him, but we'd still need to add a guy like Guerin.

Marty Lapointe kinda sucks, I don't see him being on our 1st two lines.

2 days later......

I'm not completely sure but the last few games that I have watched had him hitting a good amount, although most games he gets about 4-9 registered hits (more than our team total sometimes... :( ), thats as of recent i think. I know theres a hits count somewhere but my internet is crapping out right now so I'm not gunna find it. I think he has a potential to do a lot better with the wings, playing on a top caliber team and all..

I'm not sure I said exactly that, but I will eat my words a bit. I don't think he has much offensively anymore. We need a player who will muck it up with others and protect our players if needed, he does that, no? I'd be just as happy signing Laraque. Do you think Marty would be on our first 2 lines? All I hear about is that we need to sign a top 6 forward, and you know as well as I know, Marty isn't that

This is what the Prosportsdaily has shown today for what we're interested in. We got Tkachuck, Guerin, Roberts, Bertuzzi, Blake, Smyth, Stumpel and Carter. I'm not too keen on Stumpel or Roberts really, but the rest wouldn't be bad to pick up. what'd you guys think? http://www.prosportsdaily.com/nhl_rumors.html

Id take Roberts and Stumpel over Carter any day of the week. I might even prefer Willy in the lineup over Carter. The last thing we need is a soft, lazy floater.

maybe not the 1st or 2nd but definitely the 3rd. He's tough and he can score.......we could use that.

see, so my comment isn't totally off the wall

To be honest, maybe Blake is our cheapeast option. He's old at 34, but we wouldn't have to give up to get as much as the others. Plus this year he's having a good as year as he's ever had

Take what you want from this, but a buddy of mine works for a large hockey publication and said that he was told that the Wings are the final stages of trading for Todd Bertuzzi in exchange for Igor Grigorenko and a first round pick. If its true it sounds good to me!

WHAT? Bert for Grigs AND a 1st is not a good deal. Grigs is the closest thing we have to a power forwad who's ready to come in and Bert wont play before the deadline. The only way I see this deal happening is if Bertuzzi will then sign a long-term contract with Detroit which, in that case, would be a fair offer.

I agree Blake would be a good, fairly cheap option. People can knock him for his age or sieze, but hed be our fiestiest guy up front and our fastest bar none. Plus he scores ugly goals, goes to the net, and is oozing confidence right now. Not a bad option at all and lightyears ahead of Carter.

And you gotta love the fact that statistically, these past two years he's been scoring and getting assists so much more than he has had in the past

The Islanders are still in the playoff hunt. So tell me why they would get rid of their leading scorer in Jason Blake?

Idk man, but there are multiple sources saying that he's avaliable

I'd prefer Guerin over Tkachuk just because Guerin is alot faster and seems like he has a better attitude and more leadership than Keith Tkachuk. However, why hasn't anybody commented on Gary Roberts?? Why hasn't his name come up on the boards more often? In my opinion, he's EXACTLY what we're looking for right now. A playoff rental, which could turn into another year if he pans out with our team and likes it here. He's a veteran who plays with a big mean streak (anyone even watch his days in Toronto??) I can't remember how many times I saw him play great while bitten with a big injury, and coming up huge in important games with huge goals/hits/fights. He's character all the way, and can also score for a 40 year old. Somebody please tell me why we aren't looking deeper at him?? Him and Guerin and we have a great run to look forward to in my honest opinion.

Blake isn't going anywhere, with the Islanders being in a close race for a playoff spot
