BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 (edited) I must say they have been receiving quite the amount of first round picks for their stars. I mean, if you look at it this way, they gave Tkachuk up, and now they have Atlanta's pick in '07, which will probably be right in the middle of the first round, and a conditional first rounder in '08. Not too shabby. Also, Gueren will almost definitely be dealt, and more than likely a first rounder in '07 will come along with that. So so far that makes 2 (soon to be 3) first rounders in '07 as far as I know, and maybe 2 in '08. Where will St. Louis land this year you ask? 23rd overall, so that grants them a possible 7th overall pick in '07. Along with maybe a 15th overall pick, and in compensation for Guerin it will probably be a 25th to 30th overall pick. As far as their current prospects/young players, they have Erik Johnson coming along, who's almost a lock to be an elite NHL defenseman. Guys like TJ Oshie and goalie Marek Schwarz to probably take over as soon as Manny's done in STL. Now their young guys, you consider guys like David Backes, Lee Stempniak, Jay McClement, and Jeff Woywitka who all still have yet to develop, and will more than likely develop into stars. That isn't the most elite group of names, but their good, and you have to still consider the 5 possible first rounders to come along in the next two years. I'm just stating that people consider Washington and Pittsburgh to be two teams of the future, but could St. Louis develop into a team of that elite status? The Enforcer 13 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Yeah I could see that, but that's how the system works. They deserve it if they can get the picks. JD's a smart guy.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 are there any draftable players this year that will be able to jump straight to a NHL 1st/2nd line a la Crosby or Ove? i think if they draft well they'll be good in 3/4 years, but not serious contenders before then. jerm8352 3 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 No, this draft is considered pretty weak. That is why so many first round picks are being thrown around.

johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Its easier to dismantle a team than to rebuild it. Depends how wisely they use those draft picks and evaluate their prospects. But there's no way they should take as long as the Blackhawks to get the franchise back to respectability.

Yeah, there isn`t any hype about players, like there was with Crosby and OV. Who is there to draft???

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 St Louis is definitely up and coming. I think for Guerin they need to go the straight prospect route, no more picks. Grab one or two guys from a team who will be NHL ready next season.

BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Well, I guess a couple years is a bit too little time. A few years would be a better way to word it.
JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted February 26, 2007 Q: Where do you see St. Louis in maybe a couple years? A: Still not winning the Stanley Cup ever. HAHA. I was going to stay out of this conversation, but it's nice to find someone else who rags on the Blues for being the most worthless hockey franchise in NHL history... I expect much more of the same, and feel free to get that crow ready, because I'll eat a boat-load if they actually advance to, or win, the Stanley Cup Finals.
