Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Can Todd even fricking play? When will he be ready? I'm sorry, this is more a high stakes gamble than some kind of miracle deal. Then again, I don't need to apologize becuase I wasn't blaming the world on Holland.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Kenny gambles intelligently... he takes a risk and hopes for the best, like every other GM. Who's to say that Ryan Smyth won't break something his first shift out of the gate with his new team? It's all a crap-shoot, really. I support Kenny Holland, now and in the past. He does what he thinks is right for the team, and hopes like Hell that he doesn't get burned. With Bert, he's taking a calculated risk... but I have to believe he has researched and checked on every angle he can think of before committing to this deal. Good surprise, Kenny.... the only thing that would have pleased me more is seeing Jagr in a Wings jersey.

Houdini 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Hahaha- a backhanded apology if I ever read one Exactly. Some people just will never admit Holland is a good GM. Holland hasn't done anything in the last few years? Wait, didn't he recently resign Zetterberg to a multi-year contract making WAY WAY below what other teams would have paid him? Na, not Hollands doing, Zetter and his agent just didn't want to be greedy. He signed Datsyuk for less than Pavel demanded, even when he threatened to play in Russia? Not a good deal because he paid Pavel more than Zetterberg! - Houdini

Rice 42 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Can Todd even fricking play? When will he be ready? I'm sorry, this is more a high stakes gamble than some kind of miracle deal. Then again, I don't need to apologize becuase I wasn't blaming the world on Holland. How is this a high stakes gamble? We gave up Matthias and conditional picks. Holland did a great job this deadline. Low risk, very high reward. From what I've read Calder was great in the past and we all know what Bertuzzi can do when he's at the top of his game. Two days ago this was our top six: Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Cleary-Lang-Williams Today we have: Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Calder-Lang-Bertuzzi And we gave up next to nothing. Great moves by Holland!
TheLegend19 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 I think this thread simply needs to be an attendance taker. For those that doubted Holland, simply post "Present." That being said, Manny4Prez - Present.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Would have liked to seen Lang dealt too. Why should we appologize to a guy making huge money, for doing the job he was hired for? For the first time in 4 season. My god he finally went to work. Lang is going to be perfectly fine. He always shows up in the playoffs. That's all that matters. Anyways, im not going to apologize because I was not one to bash him. BUT GOO KENNNY! WOOOOOT. Holland=LOVE
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 Damn, too bad we don't have any more games at Colorado this year. If Aves fans needed another reason to hate us we just gave them a doozie. the season after the Moore incident, didn't Colorado sign one of the Vancouver guys that was a major player in all the smack talk the preceded the incident? Not a good deal because he paid Pavel more than Zetterberg! - Houdini It's laughable how people try to make everything out to be black or white. I'm not going to forget about three years of complete incompetence on Holland's behalf simply because he finally made a move. Holland gets credit when credit is due. He's gotten a lot of credit for the Zetterberg deal from both the Holland anti-faction and the Holland apologist's. Anything else is bulls***. I still don't think the Datsyuk deal was much to celebrate. He overpaid. No doubt.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 No apology coming from this guy! Dont get me wrong, Im happy we got Bertuzzi, however, this team is still lacking in physical players and toughness. Just Bertuzzi is not enough. What happened to adding someone more physical to the 3rd/4th lines?

clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 (edited) Halleleuja - All of you grit slappies can finally shut up. Holland hasn't been perfect but he has been pretty good over the years: He has stopped mortgaging the future anually in the Deadline sweepstakes He signed Lang for nothing from Washington He found Sammie and Cleary pretty much out of nowhere He (and the organization) have done a commendable job of drafting thru the years with late picks He helped keep this team competitive post cap when everyone was saying the emd of the wings is near He made 2 potentially big payoff trades this year while giving up nothing He has arguably the best player in the NHL right now for what 2 or 2.5 mil a year? An absolute steal He is paying Datsyuk commensurate with his CURRENT market value He and babs are slowly but surely changing the shape of this team to be harder to play against. He has no outrageous contracts to contend with. (Sure, I would not have signed Lilja or Williams to the deals they got, but that's a trifle). Best of all he is patient, Grit Slappies, and he has not mortgaged the future for today like a few teams did this deadline season. If Bert pans out, we sign him and Dats and let Lang go, we should be very good next year too. Edited February 27, 2007 by clutchngrab

J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 The acquisition of Bertuzzi makes me a little more receptive towards the acquisition of Kyle Calder last night. I was a little concerned that Holland felt we were all set for the playoffs, and that there was no need to go out and get a guy like Bertuzzi. Anyways, Kenny took a pretty big risk on Bert, but I feel it's a risk worth taking. I'm much more satisfied with what he accomplished this trade deadline as opposed to what he did last year. clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 (edited) 2 plus some of the grit we already have. Don't forget you need talent as well otherwise nothing happens. I don't think grit is now the issue. Unless you are mistaking grit for say fighting. Edited February 27, 2007 by clutchngrab

J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2007 (edited) Unless you are mistaking grit for say fighting. I feel Lou is suggesting that he wanted Holland to go out and get someone who would be capable of standing up for his teammates once in a while, as this has been a problem with the team all season. Well, it would be nice to have 1 guy that could play the enforcer role. Not sure that is Bert, though. As I'm sure you know, fighting is pretty irrevelant anyway in playoff games, so it is much better to have guys that can skate and finish checks. Now I don't feel as bad about playing the Sharks, Ducks or Flames, and I think we positively match up against the Preds. Here is something to ponder: Imagine late in the 3rd period of a game 7 down a goal. Your ace in the hole becomes Dats, Hank, Bert. Scary huh.

Yes, thats part of it. Basically going in i viewed this team as the softest set of forwards in the league. Now is adding just Bertuzzi supposed to make them not soft now? I went into the deadline believing they needed AT LEAST 2, preferably 3, guys added who could play physical...becuase they really didnt have any going in. You cant be a soft team and expect to match up with Anaheim, Calgary, and San Jose. We got 1, Calder is certainly not physical for anyone who may suggest that. So its a step into the right direction, but certainly not enough to make a believer in Holland and say sorry for doubting you. Hell no..
