Another Angle Of The Bertuzzi Trade...Florda Got Hosed...Luongo

Wow, could that have been one of the worst trades ever. Imagine what the Panthers could have gotten for Luongo if they kept him and dealt him at the trade deadline?

In the end all they got for Luongo (also Krajicek and a 6th round pick) was Bryan Allen, Alex Auld, Shawn Matthias and the conditional picks. Wow...just wow.

I've been thinking the exact same thing ever since the Bert trade went down yesterday!

Rough ROI for the Panthers!

That is just a gamble you take in any trade you make. If Bert was healthy, than the return would have been great for Florida, but he wasn't so they did all that they could, so now we wait and see what hand we have been dealt. I would be willing to bet that we will turn up a Royal Flush with Big Bert and hopefully he'll stay in Detroit for longer than just this season.

Luongo didn't want to be in Flordia anymore. They offered him a long term deal that was worth more a year then what Vancover is paying him.

I think that they were in a lose lose situation.

It doesn't matter. Luongo still had this year left on his contract, and he would have fetched a lot more than what was listed above had Florida hung on to him until yesterday.

Actually, that's not true, in an interview after the trade Luongo said he was very surprised that he was not resigned by Florida and he only wanted some stipulations and guarantees from the team. Most of which were reasonable (liking bringing back a goalie coach the team once had, etc.)

They got hosed like Detroit when they traded Oates for Federko, mckegney and a bag of used pucks!!!

Oates had personal problems here. Though I do agree they could have gotten more than Federko and his rapid fall skills.

Florida is a pretty sad organization, they've been around for 14 years now and have yet to put together a respectable team, unless you count their fluke run in '96. They could've built something around Luongo, but he got fed up with playing for a team that never improves. If they had any hope of competing during in this decade it left along with him.

Guest Tunbo Batman

who would you put in third, 4th and 5th ? :P

also, yes they got screwed. THATS where great/bad organizations start : the building. The Wings greatness begins in the office, and so does the Panther's weakness. a franchise goalie for a 3rd rounder, wow. now what are they gonna do?

This almost makes the Markus Naslund for Alek Stojanov trade look like a good deal.

When you seriously take a look at things, Florida could easily get a nod as one of the top 5 worst run sports franchises. I remember last season how mad Paul Laus was when the organization didn't even so much as make an attempt to honor the 1995-96 Florida Panthers team that went to the finals. Yep, they can sit right up there with the Blackhawks, Lions, Chicago Cubs, and a handful of others as pretty bad organizations,
