leaners are so annoying. Usually I can still see over them, but when i'm next to someone short i'll usually be nice and ask the person in front of us to sit back in their seat. I mean, I like to lean forward as well, but I don't do it at an arena unless i'm in the very top row.

and I have been known to request the top row, there's a ledge behind it to put your jacket and food, and you can stand up/lean forward whenever you want!

Good thinking. Here in Finland we aren't even allowed to go to the seats until play is stopped. And of course, if you're a bit late, they always play like five minutes without a stoppage and make you stand and wait for a permission to take your seat. <_<

The ushers at the ACC keep you from going back to your seat until a stoppage in play as well.

and whoever had problems with the fans down here in Nashville, i'd like to apologize on behalf of them. We're not all like that, and i'm sure it is worse when the wings are in town. But I know that personally, I understand if an opposing fan is in our arena and gets excited about their team, I mean... that's why they come to the game.

I'm pretty sure it's standard procedure, as this was also the case at the Joe.

true in Buffalo, San Jose, and Dallas, too. Once in a while someone sneaks through, but not very often. People should know better. ;)

That's what I would have thought, I just wasn't sure when someone suggested they would wait (i.e. were not restrained) from going back to their seats.

Most of the Preds fans I have met and know are great fans. Hockey has been in Nashville for almost 10 years, I have witnessed most of it, and it shows with the knowledge that the fans have now. They love the sport and their team. It's just a few fans I have encountered that have crossed the line. Which usually happens everywhere, in every sport. I am there to cheer my team. I may counter the "You Suck" comments during the announcement of the starting lineups with my own "You Suck" to the Nashville starting lineup. I also may counter the "Chelios is a Sissy" chants with "Lets see you play at 45" or "Kariya is a Baby". Also, countering the "Hasek, Hasek, you suck" with the Preds goalie name instead. But its all in good fun and its always an immediate reply to the Nashville fan chants. Everyone laughs at my replies. Its a great place to see a hockey game, especially when the Wings are in town.

Thanks for the post Legionnaire11. I will be at the games on the 13th and 29th, with the Winged-Wheel across the chest and my Lets Go Red Wings chants. It should be interesting down the stretch. GO WINGS!

I've been to every Wings/Preds game since the beginning and I never had a big problem until the game on 2/24. The guy that was in front of me keep leaning forward and was basically berating this woman in front of him who just happened to be wearing the right color (red). This guy was calling her everything in the book and she was there with 3 young kids. The only thing she did during the entire game was stand up and cheer when the Wings scored. Near the end of the 2nd I decided I had enough of this guy and I tapped him on the shoulder and he turns around and yells "what the hell do you want, directions back to Detroit?" I simply said that if he had something to say that he can get in my face unless yelling at a woman made him feel like a big man. The guy turns red and didn't say a word the rest of the game. Now I'm not that big of a guy 5 11 190 so its no like I scared the crap out of him, but at what point does being an ******* become acceptable?

Sounds to me like that was quite a classy move on your part  I hope the lady in front of both of you acknowledged that, I would have done the same thing!

A rowdy fan story i have is actually a good one. The first time I ever took my son to a Wings game he was 4. At 4 years old he was only interested in two things, seeing Shanahan (because his name was fun to say! ), and the Zamboni.

There were two young guys sitting behind us , drinking quite heavily, and I was a little concerned at what my son might hear. At the 1st intermission I took my son to get one of those Hot Wheels sized Zambonis for a souvenir. When we got back to our seats ( in the middle of a power play no less ) , my son hops on his seat and shows the two drunk kids his zamboni and announces this is his 1st ever hockey game. These guys just start laughing, and told me my son was one of the coolest little guys they'd ever seen, and spent the rest of the game talking to HIM!

It was a blast , and we couldn't have had a better time. Sometimes even drunk fans can be cool!

That is terrible!! I am glad you stood up for her. These types of fans need directions to the EXIT of the arena. I just can't believe a real man/ hockey fan would do this in front of children. I guess the DET-NASH battles are leaking to the stands. I love the competition that Nashville gives us, its great, I am glad they are competitive. Its seems to be more likely now that we run into these types of fans. I am sure it will happen again. We just have to be the better man and bigger hockey fan. Show em Red the next two games in Nashville! GO WINGS!!

 You're so sweet. I wish you were there when I went to the New Year's Eve game. I got yelled at. Granted I was cussing, but it was just an "oh s***" on a breakaway and I got thoroughly berated and spent the rest of the game wallowing in shame. I'm glad there's people like you out there.

Im a wings fan in DC and its always strictly enforced at the Verizon Center that ushers hold fans till play stops, and they do a very good job at it too.

At the last wings home game, I was in the upper bowl and some taller dude was leaning forward in his seat. Me being short couldn't see. But what pissed me off more was the fact that he had an illegal camera, so he was only leaning forward to take pictures (not too sure how he got that in). I don't mind someone leaning forward to see better, but doing so to take pictures with a camera that is illegal in Joe Louis, angered me.

Just curious, what illegal camera did he have? I always take my camera in and its allowed. Its not a $1000 canon but its still a large size 12x zoom lens. They look at it and send me on my merry way.

not related, but i was at a st. louis/vancouver game in st. louis back in october and we got seats right in the corner in the lower bowl, so we decided to move to the blue line to get a better view. we stayed in the same row and there was NO ONE at this game, so tons of empty seats were available, but the usher made us move back. i wasnt too pleased about this.

I got another stupid fan story. It was way back in the early 90s, I was probably no more than 13 or 14.

I was at a college basketball game down here. University of New Orleans. They play in the Sun Belt Conference, a conference you definitely wouldn't mention first over the Big Ten, Pac 10, SEC, Big 12, etc. Being that the university is largely commuter and there was plenty of other things to do in New Orleans entertainment wise, basketball games weren't a priority for some.

Anyways, they actually played a big name opponent this game, hosting Arizona. It was either '92 or '93. I think U of A was probably ranked high, and back in the early/mid 90s, UNO, for being in a middle-tier conference, was always competitive and held their own, posting solid winning records and even making some NIT and NCAA Tourney bids.

The arena was as packed as I've ever seen it, nearly sold out with just under 10,000. The game was back and forth throughout, but Arizona pulled away at the last minute and won by 3 I think. We were exiting our seats with under a minute and were standing to see the final plays. I leaned over the walking balcony and an a**hole adult about 10 rows up threw a game program or something at me telling me to back up. I swear, even though I was only a kid back then, I nearly just ran back up the stands and gave him a piece of my mind. He was so far up that me leaning over had no impact on blocking the court, and the game outcome was all but determined anyways.

I hate to be the bad guy, but man people pay alot of money for those seats. You are suppost to be sitting while game is on, and I can understand people getting upset.

That being said, jumping up in excitement isn't a problem as long as you sit down quickly after.

The rule about shootouts and stuff is the basic rule, stand only if people in front of you are standing.

Finally, those jerks who stand up to waive at the camera with their cell phones, well they deserve to be excuted in the least humane way possible. No one cares about you being on TV, I think people would rather see the action of the Game.

See that is why I owned seats right in front of the press box.

I could stand all I wanted!! Plus TV right over my head.

I was at the last DET-NASH game in Nashville. Wearing my Shanny jersey and supporting the team. I was sitting in the upper deck behind the goal. It was the third period and Hank had a breakaway, at the other end of the rink. I stood up in excitement and this Preds fan behind me yelled 'SIT DOWN'!! I turned around and told this guy to shut up and told him that I stood up for the breakaway. He decided to continue running his mouth and told me to 'F@#$ Off'. I had a couple more words for him and left it at that. I wanted to watch the game and not deal with this guy. I was practically the only Wings fan in that section. I have been going to Wings games in Nashville Since 1999, when I moved down here, and this is the third time a Preds fan has been out of line.

Standing up during penalty shots, breakaways, big hits, whatever...is part of being a fan and part of going to a hockey game. This guy needs to understand that we are at a hockey game, not the opera!!!

Atta be! You gotta let them know.

OMG, it is soo funny that u bring up leaners. There was this huge guy sitting in front of me at the game on Friday and he was leaning, with a hat on, trying to take pictures with his illegally huge camera. Ugh.

On a different note, almost as annoying as leaners are those people who walk to their seats during the period. I was at a game v LA a couple years ago and this couple walks in front of me and I miss the Wings tie it up. <_<
