NHL Will Expand to Vegas

sorry, i am a grammar and spelling nut... it is statuTe of limitations, not statue

anyways, I don't think the South needs more NHL teams. There just is not the market. eg: PHX, FLA, NSH, ATL... grow up NHL, I mean come on, hockey in Vegas? If a movie has to happen, put it in Seattle or Canada

According to Buttman, your point is mute, GRAMMAR THAT! :P

Also, I would rather see a Winnepeg team to fill that huge gap between Calgary and Ottawa, but then again if they want ratings in the US, they need a US team with US fans. So a Dakota or Montana team may be the answer as opposed to Vegas. Seattle isn't a bad idea, but they aren't a very well known market when it comes to sports. They try, but don't succeed. I don't know what the NHL ratings are in Canada, but they are hurting here and that's why ESPN dropped it and why we have to put up with OLN.

I don't have a problem with a team in Vegas. Instead of expanding though, I think the League should relocate a franchise. Seattle sounds good to me too.

They should move the Panthers and the Kings to Vegas and Seattle. Florida and Georga shouldn't have 3 teams, and I think overall the LA market would do better if there was just one Franchise there.

Really, in all being, it's almost impossible to think the ratings would suddenly shoot up if there was a team in Vegas. Most people would laugh at that thought to begin with. And besides that, I highly doubt a Las Vegas team would make any news, even if it had Sid or someone of that nature on it.

Fine, it's really really close though. Here's my better argument;

Detroit is geographically closer to an eastern conference team that has changed conferences already than Columbus :P

Also, Detroit has been in the league longer and has seniority is choosing if they want to move. Detroit has more rivals in the east than Columbus. Detroit is smarter than Columbus. And I'm pretty sure Detroit's dad can beat up Columbus' dad.

If it helps, NWA is in south central Columbus, while JLA is in southEAST Detroit. According to Google Earth, JLA is 2.16 miles West of NWA.

So you see, JLA is West from NWA :) Noway Detroit gets to go East then.

Seriously speaking, I live in Columbus, so I'd rather see Detroit live 4 times a year than once in 3 years. As to original rivalries, they seemtobe important only for the purists. If Detroit plyed ina more competitive division, much of the impetus behind a move to the east would be gone. And in 5-10 years, the Central may become the strongest division in the NHL, we just don't know. If Chicago gets their act together, Columbus finally hires a competent GM, Blues continue to improve, the Central may become attractive to watch fairly soon.

Also, more interconference games will eventually be scheduled. It'll take a few years but it will happen.

So I don't think moving to the East should be high on the Wings list of priorities.

But building a new arena at least 2.5 miles to the east from the Joe may be :D

Disagree on the LA point. The Kings, despite being horrible, have a much better fan base than the Ducks. I think after seeing an attendance figure for this season, the Kings were still ahead of the Ducks despite all of the problems they've had this season.

Ok, well Anaheim then.

This would be a colossal mistake. It's irrelevant which conference the Wings play in if the league collapses around them. The league is too big with 30 teams -- no more.

I kind of doubt the NHL will expand into Vegas.

The league needs to consolidate before expanding again. It isn't like they are generating humongous ratings or actual attendance figures right now.

NEVER, underestimate the owners greed or lack of forsight. They would expand to 30 more cities if it menat more sweet expansion fees.

NOOOOOOO When will we STOP??? How can the sport with the LEAST fans have the MOST teams??

Ho hum. I dont mind Vegas (even though it is a glorified suburb). I Used to go their every 6 weeks for over a year and the city is probably 50% transplanted northerners. Ive probably had upwards of 100 people come up to me when i was wearing anything U of M and tell they were from michigan or went to u of m. it was craziness.

If they wanted to RELOCATE a team to Vegas, that would be one thing. Ship the COYOTES to Vegas. They have no fans and have to pay just to have a team there with all the money they lose.

If theres an expansion draft, at least Lilja and Sammy should go unprotected.

nhl.com reports that in an effort to stop the detroit/columbus controversy as to who gets to move east, and also to preserve the thriving detroit/colorado rivalry, the nhl will have expansion markets next season in portland, seatle, vegas, mexico city, honduras, salt lake city, nagano, and honolulu. this will effectively move detroit, columbus, dallas and colorado to the eastern conference. peace will be restored.

I like the idea of moving the Coyotes. The fan base is horrible, and since the team is LOSING money it should be fine. Contracting or moving a team that is losing money really shouldn't be too big of a deal.

it's made clear by the wings that if there is a team that goes east it should be the wings, and it's also been said that there was some sort of deal made between the league and the wings. Also from what I've read holland said, the wings will be putting up a huge stink if they don't go east

could you imagine what the protest would be, IMO something extreme like refusing to ice a team for the road games would be the biggest f*** You to the league :P

Oh right, the league would really give a s***. Let's forfeit half our games to protest not moving conferences. You win the prize for biggest clown-ass idea I've seen all week.

That's the point I try to make. Don't we have some sort of seniority because we've been in the league 80 years longer than them?

On the point of Detroit's dad beating up Columbus' dad, there's no fight. It's Columbus. They are a nothing town. They mean nothing to anybody that has any connection to Michigan, Ann Arbor, of the University of Michigan. (Hell, anyone who has a brain for that matter :P )
