10 Years Later: 03/26/97: Wings 6, Avs 5 (OT)

Of course I watched the game but after 10 years I don't remember the channel it was on. It didn't look like it was on PASS but Fox Sports Net. Did they just run a replay of it recently?

Unless my calculations are off, that was one of, if not the last year of existance for PASS.

What kills me is that Mike "Turd" Goldberg is forever enshrined as the voice of that brawl... what a shame!

that DVD set is awesome, I got it last christmas and it is phenominal! It has 5 of the best Wings games in recent history and has an overview of each of the past three cup runs! A must have for wings fans.

The biggest injustice in that game was that Dave Strader wasn't calling the game and Mickey was heading down to the tunnel for the 1st intermission interview. Mike Goldberg was HORRIBLE. He repeatedly made my ears bleed. His UFC play-by-play isn't any better today, either.

I vividly remember my friends and myself just screaming at the TV while on our feet, high-fiving and shadow-boxing while yelling expletives left and right.... Basically jumping around as if we were there. What a crazy night!

Blasphemy!

Going old school on me Matt. I forgot that Redmond was going down to the interview. I thought that was Ray Lane doing the interviews. I am with you on they missed having Dave Strader. I was so mad when Strader left. I thought the combo of Redmond and Strader was 2nd to none.

Well, it's possible without the killing... ;)

DVD BOX

EDIT: Like Matt already said..... :)

Hmmm... kill or spend 45 dollars... :P Good to see the use of the word "kill" gets your point through pretty quickly!

Thank you too, gotta get my hands on that piece ASAP.

NICE! I might have to pick a copy of that up, or ask for it as a birthday gift!

Question to everyone that looks at this thread.

Was anyone actually at that game? Or were we all just glued to the TV watching?

I would of LOVED to have been there for that game, it would of been simply amazing to see.

10 years ago! Wow. I was only a 10 year old at the time. It doesn't even seen like that long ago!!

I just remember being SO happy and jumping up and down and saying BEAT HIM VERNIE BEAT HIM!!!! I would of yelled out profanities..but that wouldn't be right being at the age of 10. Hahaha

What a game, what a night!

I was only 11 when it happened, but I have seen the game many times. The best part of the fight was when Shanahan jumped at Roy. That was priceless.

I think it was ironic how mostly Avs players were the ones bloodied up.

Wow... Its been ten years since the greatest game of hockey was played. I remember like yesterday, I was 17 sitting in my dads livingroom with some friends watching the game. All the fights and roy and vernon and then Mac's game winner in overtime, what a game.

And now at 27, before I realized it was the 10th anniversary I mailed in my first ever mortgage payment today, damn where did those 10 years go?

I heard a great interview with McCarty on the radio this morning, he flat out said it was the greatest game he's ever played in, period. I think I will watch the Ducks game tonight, and as soon as it's done, pop in the DVD of the old classic that my wife bought me for Christmas because she's so $%^&*$^ COOL! :D

Being about 13 or 14 at the time, I loved seeing hockey fights (still do now of course). I knew something might happen in that game, but I never thought it would have went that far. That was a game to remember. I love watching the replays on the internet of the fights and McCartys OT goal to win it too. It was a hell of a game.

My dad taped the game that day, because we were having a family get together. We turned it on right in the middle of the fight, just to check the score. We stood there and watched the whole rest of the brawl. I was jumping on the couch! It was so cool. Man, I wish I knew where that tape was. I'll have to venture into the basement someday soon and look. Hope no one stupidly taped over it. That would suck.

Ya I was only 11 at the time, and when Shanny collided with Vernon I think I yelled out holy s***! or something to that extent, and my dad didn't even care....at the time.

That was by far the best game that I've ever seen or probably ever will. I was in college at University of Detroit Mercy at the time. There were about 5 of us in the dorm room that night drinking a few beers expecting a great game. I can honestly say that I acted like a kid on Christmas the minute that McCarty took on Lemieux. I was jumping and screaming and laughing all at once. With all that happened in the past to the Wings previous to this game, it all culminated and came to an end in these three hours. Without this win and the retribution for the hit on Drapes the Wings would have almost assuredly lost in the playoffs again.

All I can say is thank you Detroit Red Wings for making the past ten years the best of my life.
