I was just having a look at the latest edition of the hockey news and they polled about 300 players on several different questions and some of the answers were pretty overwhelming.

I don't have a copy (just skimmed it at the newstand) so I may be wrong on some of the numbers).

What is the appropriate penalty for fighting (basically asking if it should be harsher than 5 minutes)

- 5 minutes - 97% (pretty bold statement - i.e. no problem)

What arena has the best ice in the NHL?

- Edmonton - 58%

- Montreal -9% (quite a drop from 1 to 2) - I guess the 42% not picking Edmonton play in the Eastern conference

Who is the best player in the NHL?

- Crosby - 58%

- Thornton - 8% (huge drop from 1 to 2...does this make Crosby a shoo-in for Pearson?)

Who is the most hated player in the NHL?

- Avery - 66%

- Too Too - 6% (holy overwhelming result here....Avery doesn't care)

Who is the most overrated player in the NHL?

- Avery - 6% (obviously voting was wide spread here, but funny that he was voted most hated and most overrated)

Penalty for shooting puck over glass?

- Fine as is - 46%

- Make is like icing...can't change - 40% (pretty split down the middle on this one)

There were several other questions that I can't remember, I would have bought it, but I only had 25 cents in my pocket at the time...shouldn't have left wallet in the office.

thats kinda funny, since i think Sean Avery is one of the most under-rated players in the NHL.

It's about $55 a year in Canada, the retail price per issue is $3.99.

They offer print and digital subscriptions. Suprisingly, the digital subscription costs exactly the same as the print sucscription.

Forwards on the Wings better than Avery:

Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom, Cleary, Lang, Hudler, Filppula, Calder, Draper, Franzen. Avery is about on the same level as Malts, Sammy, and Kopecky.

Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom, Cleary, Lang, Hudler, Filppula, Calder, Draper, Franzen. Avery is about on the same level as Malts, Sammy, and Kopecky.

But as far as aggitators goes he has decent hockey playign ability. Compare him to J.Ruutu, and Tootoo. Tootoo (as has been concluded on LGW) is a cheap-shot taking player who is almost oblivious to the fact that there is a puck on the ice. Ruutu is like Tucker in the fact that he drives other teams nuts by getting in their face, but he NEVER does anything about it. He is the biggest chump in the league, stirs s***, then turtles when it comes against him. Atleast guys like Avery and Tucker can score, and can stick up for themselves.

Avery is playing second line minutes all season, and his offensive numbers are comparable to Jason Williams or Johan Franzen. Franzen is tons better defensively, and Williams was shipped out because he sucks.

Avery would likely be competing for fourth line ice if he were still a Wing.

I agree with that. He would be in that position with us, but with another team, he is able to step up and try to fill a higher roster roll.

He's tougher , a betetr scorer and a better all around player then Maltby , Sammy or Kopecky.

He wouldnt have a big role here , but he's been a pleasent surprises in NY.

Avery is underrated in my opinion. He isn't that bad of a player, he knows how to get under people's skin and draw penalties. He is a player that you don't want to play against. He is a total pain in the ass.
