therock48880 14 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Datsyuk hasn't said anything so this can't really be classified as a player power play, imo.
swiss_redwingfan 5 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 cool down: I asked Datsyuk about that claim this morning, and Datsyuk said he didn’t know where Hull got that information. The two talked briefly before yesterday’s game, but “we did not talk about next year,†Datsyuk said. “I ask him what he doing there, he say he is commentator. and As for the idea that Datsyuk wants to go to Washington because he and Alexander Ovechkin are best friends forever; they’re not. They are friends, but Datsyuk isn’t going to base his next home on where Ovechkin is. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...1/1053/SPORTS05
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Frolov and Afinogenov were both on that Dynamo team as well so I guess Pav could be off to LA or Buffalo next year too? Better still get them here on Dats line, Max is a RW and Alex is a LW, perfect fit all round with the potential of 100+ goals between them. If only, cap space needed anyone? motorcitykid 42 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) Let's see, Babcock got run out of Anaheim, even though he took the team to the Stanley Cup Finals because the players hated him, earlier in the year Schneider said he was going to "wrestle" with him, Shanahan unexpectedly left, Yzerman retired, numerous reports of unhappy players, an article printed in St. Louis about how unhappy the Red Wing players were with Babcock (info could have come from Legace or Rivers) and now Hull says Datsyuk won't return because of Babcock. Babcock is a great coach but an absolute Hitler in practice. (how many groin injuries this year?) He wears out his welcome quickly, which appears to be what is happening here. Since Hull still communicates with players from the team, it seems that his information could very well be legit. It's not too far a stretch to figure there might be some dissention among teammates or a coach. It was said if Babcock and this team don't fare well these playoffs, he could easily be fired. That was the word earlier this year, anyway. Plus the fact he doesn't have much ties to the organization as well. Firing him, if done, management doesn't have to worry much about bad PR. As for Pavel, all that can be said for sure is he wants big league money this summer. Anything else out of his mouth, his agent's or Holland's should be taken with a grain of salt. Until a deal is actually done, no-one knows for sure where all this is going to end up. Edited April 2, 2007 by motorcitykid
donfishmaster 62 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 OK, time for a rant... I talked to several players a few weeks ago at "Toast of Hockeytown" about Shanahan's leaving, and they all said it was because of 'not getting along with the man in charge' or something to that effect. Datsyuk is a star on a fantastic, tradition-laden, fan-obsessed team who can go into probably any restaurant/car dealership/club/store/etc. in Michigan and get treated like a GOD. Doesn't anybody remember how much the players HATED Bowman, but Yzerman kind of told them to bite the bullet and Scotty would lead them to the Stanley Cup promised land? My point is, Babcock has been wonderfully successful. If you're a pro athlete making guagjuazillions of dollars/year and a coach isn't necessarily sensitive to your personal wants and needs, SUCK IT THE FRICK UP!!@!!!!! There are endless dip-s*** bosses out here in the real world that we as the working masses have to cover for and tolerate just to hoover up a relatively crappy check every month! So Shanahan felt his niblets weren't being properly caressed and now he plays for team wannabe. Fedorov wanted the bright lights and recog of LA. Unfortuantely, being a hockey player there means you wait in line at the restaurants behind the producers, movie stars, baseball/football/basketball players, rappers, and street-sweepers. He realized that, dumped to Columbus, and career did an imitation of Saddam Hussein's last big jump. Is Pavel really that stupid to throw away the golden ring because he doesn't LIKE Babcock? Don't get me wrong, I LIKED Dave Lewis, but I think his being a "player's coach" worked against him since he seemed to have more trouble looking past his personal relationships with the players for the overall good of the team. I don't believe Babcock has that problem, and thank God for it!
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) This is so funny to me. So the two people (that we know of for sure) that didnt like Babcock were Shanahan and Lang. Correct me if Im wrong, but are these not the two biggest names you can think of in terms of "not doing that which you are capable of"??? Sorry, but if Babcock is making a career out of running the lazy floaters who wont do the dirty work out of town, then I have no problem with Babcock staying on for as long as hes successful. Give me a team with a bunch of hardworkers and skilled guys who come to play everyday and Im happy enough with that. And Dats is certainly producing now both due to his individual effort and, I would bet, a fair amount of Babcock's coaching. I think it took him half the season to get it and it took Babcock half the season to also get it (give him the right lie mates). If Pavel is unhappy about anythin, you would think it would be why other lines aren't producing as much. Who the heck knows.
Airborn 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 From MLive: Sunday during the telecast of the Detroit-Columbus game, former Wing Brett Hull, now an NBC hockey analyst, stated that Pavel Datsyuk would not be back next season because he’s unhappy with coach Mike Babcock. I asked Datsyuk about that claim this morning, and Datsyuk said he didn’t know where Hull got that information. The two talked briefly before yesterday’s game, but “we did not talk about next year,†Datsyuk said. “I ask him what he doing there, he say he is commentator.†Datsyuk is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Whether or not he stays in Detroit – which is what he says he wants to do – will come down entirely to money. It’s possible another team will offer Datsyuk more than the Wings can afford to match. As for the idea that Datsyuk wants to go to Washington because he and Alexander Ovechkin are best friends forever; they’re not. They are friends, but Datsyuk isn’t going to base his next home on where Ovechkin is. http://www.mlive.com/weblogs/snapshots/ind..._04.html#246905

Kira 451 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 I don't believe Hull when he says that Pasha wants to play in DC. Number one, he's building a new house here. Now if he was intent on leaving, don't you think it would be a dumb idea for him to be building new digs? Number two, he is NOT "Best friends" with Alexander Ovechkin. That is so far off the radar it isn't funny. I'm just gonna chalk it up to an April Fool's joke and leave it at that.
King Henrik40 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 Yea I herd that too I hope that Hully doesn’t know what he’s talking about but idk he may have a point... it would be huge if we ended up loosing Datsyuk, thats why we need to sign him asap for tat 5 mil for 4 years if thats what he wants or what ever he wants! sharomyga 6 Report post Posted April 3, 2007 You bring up a good point. When did Dats and Ovechkin spend enough time together to become best friends? Surely not the olympics, and I can't think of another time they played together. They played together in Moscwo Dynamo during the lockout season and won the russian league championship, so I belive they know each other quite well. Besides Ovechkin in his interviews several times mentioned Dats as his friend and the most skilled player in NHL.
