Lidstrom Out

Probably just resting. Wings are being extremely cautious this year goin in the playoffs, they want everyone to be at 100%.

Im not too worried about Lids yet.

dito what DetroitNativePride says.

we don't need Nick against Hawks. we get this single point needed to finish 1st in the West anyway, and it's not worth to expose him right before playoffs

I can't believe some of you are buying into this. Do some of you not notice how Lidstrom, and many other players have mysterious "injuries" the last couple games every year? It's no secret, he's just resting.

last year I would have agreed with you, but after Datsyuk got hurt last year and I thought it was just a rest tactic now i'm very worried about late season injurys  But on this perticular one I have to say it is just a rest tactic...but i'm still apprehensive

I bet Nick's fine and so is Dom. They are resting and staying safe for the playoffs. Zetterberg's possibly closer to ready than we know (perhaps it's the Forsberg Syndrome, resulting in instant wellness the day the playoffs start?)

In 2002, I flew to San Jose for one of the last Wings game of the season. There were so many vets missing, I spent most of the game telling the SJ fans around me who Kuznetsov and Ladislav Kohn were! Dom dressed as Manny's backup, but it was pretty clear he wasn't going to play. He sat in the player's tunnel about 20 feet away from me, and munched popcorn (with Cheli, who was dressed in street clothes). They hid the popcorn bag in Dom's trapper! It was hilarious.

The Wings had long since clinched the President's Cup. They lost 6-3 to San Jose. Manny got lit up in a ridiculous display of "we don't care" and the Sharks fans thought they'd beaten the mighty Red Wings, even though half of them were either really out, or checked out mentally.

The Wings lost or tied their last six games in 2002. Every game, there were mysterious injuries to key players and we were all freaking. Look how that turned out. Look how much more fire we see this year, even in the waning games of the season.

I am not worried at all!

you mean like we sucked badly those 2 games against Canucks at home? :P and somewhere about period 2 of Game 2 the very Dom was cheered by JLA after making child-easy saves :)

just kidding :) we started rather slowly back in 2002 and we were lucky enough to face Dan Cloutier who let's goals from the center ice, to rebound. but that initial slow start could as well have cost us that series, so you can't really judge it after who and how rests before playoffs. plus: 2002 was a different era in the NHL. the playing field is much flatter now with salary sombrero :)

The only player i'm worried about is Z. It's not normal to miss the amount of games he has missed with a back issue that is supposed to be miracously better by next week. I just hope he isn't rusty come playoff time.

So is Shneids playing or did we call someone else up from GR??

We need two points, but I'm not worried either. In a worst case scenario, he can play on Saturday.

I remember some idiots throwing their Hasek jerseys on the ice at JLA, and boo'ing Dom as if he was the only one who was playing like crap. I thought they were all idiots for jeering their own goalie. But as if I didn't already adore Steve Yzerman, he took care of that situation by quietly saying, "I am not worried about our goaltending. Dom's fine." He was, Stevie was right.

I don't want the Wings to start off in a hole the way the 2002 playoffs started, and I don't think they're going to. We're not anywhere near that out of synch this season. I do agree with you however, that the salary cap (or sombrero, I like that!) has leveled the playing field somewhat. The Wings need to buckle down and play hard all 60 minutes, or else. It's been said over and over again, but it couldn't be more true or important - play all 60 minutes, not 20, not 40, all 60.

Cloutier's out of the playoff picture this time!

;)

This damn hangnail is killing me, I'm going to sit it out for the night! :P

Seriously though, the last game or two during the regular season usually doesn't amount to a whole lot, so rest up. That's all this is ladies and gentlemen. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's probably safe to assume that at least 5 other players probably have injuries of the "nicks and bruises" variety that aren't worth the risk now, but will not keep them out of a playoff matchup.

there's difference between regular season and playoffs. those 3rd period efforts from regular season are IMHO tactics. I mean: do the least to win it. if you play good level only last 20 minutes this is where you risk the other team bullying it, and you also give your players 40 minutes of "practice" rather than wearing it down. this keeps you fresh through the season.

now come playoffs time - you play to win those 4 games. against tough team like Flames we will have to watch out and not push too early to not ask for trouble (unleashing the goons that is). but there's definitely no room for 2 periods of "sleep mode" any more. it's gonna require much more effort

Cloutier's out of the playoff picture this time!

I wonder why... :unsure::D

I say good, rest him, it's our privalage to be resting our stars right now as oppossed to be stressing over home ice and better positioning.

He's ALWAYS injured in the last games of the season. He should be more careful.

Oh wait...

 Yeah, Nick really has a bad habit of getting injured for the last 2 regular season games. I think he might have gamedoesntmatteritis!
