Jiggy_12 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 Hmmm... given that they're resting some starters, who else would've played if not Mac? What I mean is, if he wasn't going to play in the playoffs, why bring him back now for 1 meaningless game when he's been injured for almost 4 months. Why not just let him rest until next season? McCarty playing gave them the luxury of resting starters. Resting starters didn't force them to play McCarty.
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 Lets see how the Wings do in the post-stevie era. new leadership on the team now. healthy for the most part for the first time in years. should be a good series of playoff hockey.

Dats and Hank dont fold like they used to - they are both more mature, hardworking, hungry, and experienced. This series is a BIG difference from 2004. We DONT rely solely on our PP anymore nor do we need to make 8 passes to score a goal. This team has been scoring garbage goals all year - and not just from Homer either - Dats, Hank, Bert, even Flip have caught on in terms of going to the net. shadow47 1 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 (edited) I've got a bad feeling Detroit will lose this series. Calgary is scary good IN Calgary, and one of the first two games in Detroit is an afternoon game. We know Detroit has problems with afternoon games, so right there, there is a good chance of a 2-1 or even 3-1 hole. To boot, the sucks at NBC pushing back the schedule will force Dominik Hasek to play in back-to-backs for the first time all year, who knows how he will react, if he will be a little tired or whatever. And for all the crying about being physical and avoiding grinding teams for the playoffs, Detroit likely couldn't have drawn a more grinding team without facing Minny. Not to mention Detroit's offense, excluding the throwaway finale, was less than impressive in the last 10 games of the season. I have little optimism. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 The real advantage I see in the Red Wings this time is the guy behind the bench. Babcock has been absolutely vicious about this first series. Everything hes said about the playoffs makes me feel so much better about the team. Playfair seemed to make a great transition with the Flames, but Sutter was scary good. I realize Sutter will still have input, but Bowman has input from our end. At any rate, with the way Babs has called out Lang, Hasek, and Cleary (last night for night protecting his body better) over the seasn - among others - it makes me a lot more confident in his "no bulls***" attitude. Plus, the whole 13 regular forwards saga will keep these guys on their toes. Nobodys spot is safe in the lineup, so we no longer have to put up with casual attitudes and soft play when theres another guy waiting to take your spot. The season means absolutely nothing as of right now. Just because they lost the 'afternoon' games in the regular season doesn't mean they are going to have a tough time in the playoffs. It's a bit different and im sure they are not going to sit back no matter how early the game is. We aren't having a back to back game?

Detroit blew out its last game in the afternoon. Was it against Chicago? Yes. But were regular sitting out and Datsyuk and Lidstrom playing limited minutes? Yes again. Didnt they just lose to the same Chicago team? Yes once again. They played hard and won by committee. And you wanna bring up offense like its been some huge problem in big games. The games where Detroit hasnt put up the goals, theyve kept the opponent from scoring even fewer. Last time I checked, that goes down as a win....and a playoff type one at that. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 I don't know how to feel about this series with Calgary. In one respect, I always expect and believe that the Red Wings are going to win, but a part of me also feels that the Flames could give the Wings big problems. The thing that concerns me most is the Red Wings HAVE to get scoring production from multiple lines. They cannot rely on Zetterberg and Datsyuk for all of their offense, especially with Kiprusoff capable of stealing this series on his own. That being said, it appears this Red Wings team is more playoff built than previous years. Guys like Calder, Franzen, and Cleary will be huge factors if they can work hard down low and get some ugly goals. This should be a terrific playoff series. Let's Go Red Wings! Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 I'm so pumped right now...I gotta hold on to most likely Thursday? Got good feelings about this year, but I usually am optimistic before every playoff year. We just gotta trust our players...I know we're not the 02 Wings anymore, but we got Dom. And even at his old crusty age, he's still damn good....good enough to take us far. We dont have suicidal Manny anymore (god love him).

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted April 9, 2007 (edited) Kiprusoff scares the living heck out of me because we have all seen what happens if he catches lighting in a bottle. I still have great confidence though that this time it will be different, and we will escape in 5 or 6 games.
