Detroit Vs Calgary Predictions

Calgary in 6.

- Datsyuk will score 1 goal

- Bert and Zetts will only play a handful of games and be sidelined for most of it due to injuries

- Sammuelson will miss the net a lot more than he hits it

- Leijla will cough up the puck more than a puck coughing-up machine. - Dom will play great but he'll let in a couple of questionable goals that will lead fans to believe he's the reason why we lost despite scoring only 10 goals over the 6 games.

- Draper will have more scoring opportunites than anyone else on the team but will fail to score on any of them and his hands will leave plenty of dried cement on the ice.

- Maltby will score 2 goals in one game.

- Babcock will be fired.

I hope I'm wrong on all but the Maltby predictions. (and possibly the Babcock one if we lose).

But this will be the first year since 91 where I'm not going to get upset over how the Wings win or lose. I have no expectations for this team to do anything.

I love the Wings and I think they did great this year, but we still piled up a boatload of points from feasting on the weakest divsion in the NHL. If we were in any other division there's no reason to beleive that we might be the 7th or 8th seed or possibly even out of the playoffs.

I hate saying it but the last 3 playoff disappointments have shown me that it was no fluke. And our team appears to be a little more grittier but it's still the same soft team that we've seen for years.

Prove me wrong Wings!

People in my office are wondering what the hell I am laughing at. HILARIOUS!!!

All we have to do is watch them come off the bench for warm ups. If they come out flying then the Wings come out flying in ever game much like the last game against Chicago and take the series in 4.

Yeah,

I was laughing at Flames fans before the 2004 Wings-Flames series after we spanked the Preds.

I was laughing at the Oilers fans last season because we won the President's Trophy and the Wings looked great heading into the playoffs. I wasn't laughing much after the Oilers *****-slapped Detroit.

I have very low expectations for this 2007 team. If the Wings get bounced by Calgary in the first-round playoffs...I will just yawn. What else is new, right? Same story every year except for '97,'98 and 2002.

It's not just the last 3 years that are making me think the Flames will win its the fact that it's so close now in, well both conferences, but more so the west. I mean the Wings losses in 99 and 2000 were to a good team. In 01 they didn't have Shanny or Stevie and without them LA was a better team. But in 03, 04 and 06 the wings were pretty healthy and the other teams just played better and the playing field is much more level now then before. So losing to the Flames wouldn't shock me because I could see them being able to beat anyone in the west. The same goes pretty much to all 8 teams.

Calgary in 4 :P

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=203480

McGeough is in. :scared: Veteran Kerry Fraser out! :o

I think the NHL want shim to make a bad call so they can fire him. No bigger test for a screw-up than the play-offs.

Side note: if the Wings get swept in the first round, I will probably die of lack of oxygen due to screaming at the TV non-stop.

Flames in 7..........only because the Wings are banged up.

Who? Besides Kronner and Z

Who? Besides Kronner and Z

You can say Bert is hurt with the concusion thingy he has. People have said Lidstrom and Schneider but I don't think they are that serious honestly. Zetterberg is really the only one of concern imo.

This is going to be a be a great series, and based on track records of Detroits key players like Datysuk, and Haseks age, I think Calgary should win this one. Calgary has just as good an offense as Detroit, a younger team, more reliable goaltender, tougher blue line, on paper, if the Flames show up with there A game only Nashville is better.

Split in the first 2 games, Calgary takes the 2 at the Saddle, then take your pick when the Wings are eliminated, game 5 or 6

Yeah, like track records mean anything.

Given Bowman's track record, he should have 20 rings.

It all falls on the player's shoulders. And Dom has some of the strongest in the league, as does Lidstrom. Kipper has some too, but most of that team is raw and inexperienced, 2 season's ago, they were a much better team. Not so much now, their D is not that great (see goals against) and Detroit is the best at keeping teams shots to a minimum.

Also, if this is a tightly called series, the Wings are a much better even strength team.

Not 2003-04 people. Two different teams. And Detroit is better now, Calgary worse.

Why does everyone still think the Wings are so old? Outside of Chelios and Hasek, who still play very well, the Wings aren't that old. They only have 5 guys over the age of 35 and their average age is about 29.5 while the Flames is just over 29. What are they going to need to do to get rid of the old label? Make sure no one is over the age of 30 on their team? Now I will agree Kipper is a better goalie but more reliable? I don't consider Hasek unreliable in net. Blue line I will give you for sure and offense is about even. But I wouldn't write off Datsyuk yet. Yeah he didn't do much last year but he wasn't 100% in his first game. So I want to see him this year before passing any complete judgment on him. With that being said I am still lacking confidence in the wings because of past years. But like we have all been saying, any one team in the west can beat another team. There is no clear cut #1.

If it's a long series Detroit will have problems due to injuries, especially the nagging ones. They'll get bounced in round two. I predict Wings in 6 and a precarious 2nd rd matchup.

5 on 5, Calgary is 5th, Detroit 1st. Goals per game, Calgary is 7th, Detroit is 10th. Trying to pick that apart is silly. The difference I believe will be Datsyuk will perform another dispearing act, Zetter will be smothered by Stuart all series, and things should wrap up nicely for Calgary. You're absolutley right, Calgary isnt the same as 03 04, dead last in scoring, 1st in defense. This year we're much more balanced, 7th in scoring, and 11th in defence. Much better team than 03 04.

No one has faith in the wings , and no one even expects the winsg to do anything

So wings in 6

In all honesty, this could be the smartest line of thinking out there.

Despite having the #1 seed I think a lot of people in the hockey world have Detroit as the underdog. And I'm glad.

There's no need to overanalys who has the better coaching, defense, goaltending, special teams, etc. Afterall, on paper the Wings were a much better team than the Ducks, Flames and Oilers the last 3 playoffs. And where did that get them?

If the Wings want to win more than the Flames, they will. Simple as that.

P.S. I have nothing against the Flames but I hate Dieon "The Caveman" Phaneuf. I'm not sure if looks more like the cavemen from the Geico commercials or the Highlander.

And could someone tell this SOB that it's okay to smile once in your life.

I'm looking forward to watching Bert put him on his ass.

I was talking to my friend yesterday about that. We started talking about how Chelios and Bert used to be , and how this would be the same. Theres no pressure on the wings , They can go out and play hockey , This should be a good series to be sure.

Assumeing no one's injured and everyones playing their A-game for us (and Calgary too) Wings in 6. If Zetterberg struggles it'll go to seven as long as Datsyuk doesn't Datsuck. If both are a non factor we'll be out in 7, and if for some reason neither are a non-factor and Bert re-aggrivates some injury, Calgary in 6 (barring significant injury on their part.) Not saying we're a one-two person team, rather I think the match up is so close that it'll come down to that.
