Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 well here we are at the start of the real season and it looks like we have a clean bill of health, except Kronner. So Babs is exp over rook or form over name? All will become clear on Thursdat night but I see one of our young stars watching from the press box, for the first game at least. This could be some of our senior guys last shot at winning a contract so it'll be worth watching the play of Lang, Maltby, Bert and Calder up front as the series draws on. So I see Babs going with these lines; Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Bertuzzi Lang Calder Samuelsson Franzen Cleary Maltby Draper Filppula sorry Huds, but I do think you'll get your chance. arin 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Hudler has been doing pretty good lately. Some of you need to tone down your manlove for Filp. He's been awesome, but he's knocked off the puck about every second he tries to dipsy doodle around defensemen. Hudlers got 5G 6A in the last month. Filp's got 2/2. If Bert comes back, I think we should maybe bench Filp for the first two games. If Cleary and/or Sammy don't become the next coming of Gretzky in the playoffs bench one of them. Cleary hasnt been putting anything up for a while and Sammy can have a chance because of his last game.
Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I think Babs will probably feel more comfortable with the two-way abilities and greater speed Flip brings in, considering the level of our opposition. Only if our offense totally chokes should someone sit for Hudler. Pains me to type that, because I like the guy.
wingsfan75 2 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I'd change up the lines like this, but as stated previously, I think Hudler has a good shot to make the starting roster. Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Bertuzzi Lang Calder Maltby Draper Cleary Samuelsson Franzen Filppula
arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Obviously Bert is better, but I really liked the way Huds and Lang were going a couple weeks back.

Hulder would probably be playing on the fourth line anyways and I think he would be better served on one of the top two lines and whos gonna go? gonna break up Dats Hank and Homer? Calder and Lang have played well together but are you gonna give Bert 3rd line playing time? It sucks but this is a good problem to have. I'd change up the lines like this, but as stated previously, I think Hudler has a good shot to make the starting roster. Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom Bertuzzi Lang Calder Maltby Draper Cleary Samuelsson Franzen Filppula That seems about right but with Val at center probably. I could also see Cleary and Franzen being interchangable. will find out in about 2 days. Edited April 10, 2007 by StevieY9802
arin 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 We'll probably break up DZH line. We cant have one scoring line in the playoffs. If we split them up we could easily make nearly 3 scoring lines. Lang has historically produced well in the playoffs and would make an awesome 3rd line center. Or even put him on the wing with someone; anyone know what his stance is on playing the wing? eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Hudler/Lang/Calder Cleary/Filppula/Bertuzzi Franzen/Draper/Maltby Sammy had a great game the other night, but I'd still rather see him sit than anyone else. If you want him in the roster, sit Maltby, and skate Sammy in Cleary's place with Cleary on the fourth line.

They probably won't break them up unless its not working. And as of now I know they aren't breaking them up because there were practicing together yesterday. Lang Calder and Bert can produce enough for a second line imo.
Williams29fan 6 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 I really do not get why everbody thinks Flipper should get to play and Huds shouldn't. With the time given to Flipper while Zata was out compaired to the time given to Huds, Huds has shown to be the better scorer and more reliable. Yes Flipper is faster and has better hands but the Wings do need scorers in the play offs considering the past few attempts
Guest GodofHockeyStevieY19 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Samuelsson Franzen Cleary sorry Huds, but I do think you'll get your chance. Personally, I would rather have Hudler in the lineup any day over Franzen. I know Franzen has more size. But I would take Hudler's skill, over Franzen's size any day of the week. I guess we'll know soon what Babs thinks.

And I totally see that part of it. I guess Im just sorta stuck in regular season mode still. The first playoff game where we get knocked around like ragdolls will switch my mentallity to more size real fast. I guess im just used to seeing Hudler put pucks in the net, and Franzen rarely scoring. But yeah, during the playoffs, I can totally see Babs putting Franzen in over Hudler. But if they were the same size, I'll take Hudler in a heartbeat.

Do you know what Clearys salary is ? $650,000 , He was brought in to be a good defensive player , His 20 goals were amazing , and him having 20 assists to go along with it is great. Samuelson doesnt have 20 goals and isnt half as good defensivly. Hudlers going to be sitting , It should be sammy. But bringing up cleary not scoring lately is hardly an argument at all. Guest GodofHockeyStevieY19 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 Skill never won us a cup alone , It was always Skill , Sped and Size Yeah we had skill and speed. But size? We were never a gritty playoff team. Who did we have with such size? Maybe Lapointe or McCarty or even Shanny. You call that great playoff size? In 02 we won the cup with skill. We had no size. Fischer was about it.

Guest GodofHockeyStevieY19 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 McCarty , Maltby , Shanny , Fischer , Avery ( When he played) , Homers not a small guy Well we still have Maltby and Homer. And I think most here would agree that we would take our guys now, over having avery and shanny back. Fact is, Red Wings were used to winning cups with skill. Hense the reason why we kept putting a highly skilled team out on the ice. Then 3 early playoff exits later, we are finally learning our lesson.
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted April 10, 2007 (edited) I know the AHL aint the NHL but Huds was a stud in the playoffs last year for the Griffs, 22pts in 16. Flip got 16 in 16 as these 2 led the team in playoff points, hope it rubs off on them this year. Like it has been said earlier, Huds is a goalscorer and chances a going to be at a premium. If you get one you gotta bury it, that theory leans towards Jiri getting the nod, but the size issue will be what sways Babs I feel. Do you know what Hudler's salary is? $525,000. Too bad salaries dont mean sh$# in the playoffs. Everyone is "good" at something, but do you need that good? In this case, defense isnt one of our weak spots. Since, we have one of the best defenses in the league. We have one of the worst powerplays in the league, too.
