Post-GAME 5: Red Wings 5, Flames 1 (4/21)

The Flames took their goonery to a whole new level today. It's pretty disgusting to watch this team when they are losing. What the hell was McLennan thinking? It seemed to me like Playfair just threw him out there to stir s*** up. I'm really starting to get irritated by the CBC announcers who think the Wings are running Kiprusoff too much. I don't understand how any Flames fan can justify what McLennan did by saying he was sticking up for Kiprusoff. That's the kind of thing I've come to expect from Flames fans recently though.

Anyways, on to the actual HOCKEY part of the game, because the last ten minutes was surely not hockey. I was a little nervous coming out of the first period still tied, but the Wings played great for the last two periods. Hasek was much better today than he was in the last two games, espescially on the breakaway in the first period. If that gets by him, I don't like our chances today.

I'm so glad that we finally got the special teams working for us. Both the PK and the PP were awesome today. How great is Dan Cleary? I think he's been the best player in this series for either team by far. It was great to see him rewarded with the penalty shot goal. Lidstrom was also much better today than in Calgary, that's a good sign. Good to see Zetts back on the scoresheet too.

The reffing wasn't great today, but at least today it didn't cost us the game. What was up with the goalie interference call in the 3rd? Horrible penalty, but again, it didn't matter today. I just hope this team comes out tomorrow with an inspired game on the road, and they should considering everything the Flames tried to pull today. There is nothing I would like more right now than to dominate the Flames in their own building.

Melrose just said McLennan shouldn't be suspended. What an effing tool.

-Tim

WHAT? What a freaking JOKE. Wow.

Thank GOD the NHL isn't going to listen to him. He'll get suspended, believe me.

As for Flames fans thinking the Lebda hit was dirty? HAHAHAHA yeah a CLEAN, hip check....real dirty.

Guys, guys, let's cherish the good things in this game, eh? Namely:

With 4:42 left in the game, Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi and Calgary's Dion Phaneuf were tied up before Bertuzzi lifted Phaneuf off his skated and threw him down. (espn.com)

:D

Calgary fans can kiss my ass. What f***in pieces of s***.

Their glad he did it? It was staged? Motivating the team? What kind of garbage is that team running? I'd like to see someone club Iginlas chest and see how they feel. f*** them.

Where are all those fair weather fans that said the Wings were done and those Calgary fans that jumped on the boards saying that history shows? Well guess they showed them tonight. The head officials in Toronto should start handing out fines to the refs for alot of bad calls especially that bad call on Malts where he got man handled into Kipper. They were actually saying that Calgary will file a complaint about Kipper getting bumped so much. Hey if its a Wing that bumps him you can bet your ass its going to be a penalty but if their player bumps him tough s***. It goes both ways and they have had their shots a Dom. Now lets head to the Saddle Dome and finish these bunch of cheap shot, no playing, cry babies off. I wouldn't let the Flames play the Griffins they are so out classed and out played they should fire the whole damn team or move them all to peewee.

They'll file a complaint? How quickly they forget Iginla's elbow on Hasek in game 4. They're pathetic. If you don't want the Wings to touch your goaltender, don't knock them into him. It's pretty simple.

now that i think about it, it was a strange time to put in a backup. you would put him in immediately after the 5th goal now wouldn't you?

and to top it off what was it 33 seconds after he went in that he slashed 2 times and then clubed franzen?

premeditated. im 90% sure about it now.

im interested to hear what the players and coaches will say in the press now...

Everyone on the HFboards are trashing the Flames calling them the most classless organization. We have Preds, Hawks, Stars, and Sharks fan in disgust with the Flames. AND they want the WIngs to kick their asses tomorrow. Mmmmhhmmm. They all saw what we saw. NO PLACE FOR THAT TYPE OF s*** IN HOCKEY.

It was the first thing I thought of. I was like...why'd they pull Kipper now? Maybe so he doesn't get shelled, because we were on the PP...but then when McClennan did that...OH WAS I MAD...clearly had someone who had no impact on the team go to take our our guys.

Here is a quote from the article on NHL.com

You be the judge, lol

The first two periods ended with pushing, punches and trash talk. With 4:42 left in the game, Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi and Calgary's Dion Phaneuf were tied up before Bertuzzi lifted Phaneuf off his skated and threw him down.

That takedown and the rout may have led to McLennan's two-handed slash.

I came home and caught the last 2-3 minutes of the game and they were showing the replay of what McLennan did. My jaw literally dropped.

I just want to say that I'm not surprised at all from sort of thing that the Flames did today.

When they were playing the Canucks in 2004 quarterfinals that went to 7 games, each time the Canucks won a game. The Flames would goon it up usually in the last 5-10 minutes when it became apparent that they would lose. One time at the end of a game, the Canucks would do the customary getting off the bench onto the ice and congratulate their goalie. Instead, the Flames tried pushing, shoving, and giving facewashes ruining the Canucks' customary celebration.

I never liked the Flames since then and rooted for Tampa Bay to beat them for the Cup.

Son of a monkey *****! I was just getting ready to watch the game when I got called into work for an emergency and just finished.

Sounds like Calgary is, in the words of Deadwood's Al Swearingen:

COCKSUCKERS!!!!

MUST watch replays...man, I wish I would have thought to tape the game.

GO WINGS!!

IGINLA< YOU LOUSY COWARD!!!!

The Wings won't lose again in this series.

I'm calling Bert as my next star of the game when he beats the crap out of Phaneuf, Langkow...or whoever.

The Wings are out for blood. They are going to kick the s*** out of Calgary tomorrow.

Edit: Interesting seeing on HFboards on all the fans of other teams saying what s*** Calgary is. It's nice to see we are not the only ones who see this. Hopefully, Colin Campbell sees this too, and suspends some of these assholes.

NHL.com shows McLennan logging 18 seconds of ice time.

18 seconds.

Did Babcock say anything in a postgame conference? NBC didn't carry anything here...

Firstly, I would like to urge everyone to tattoo Cleary somewhere on their body.

He really made a great move on Kipper. I was standing up and was going nuts as it happened. He really has been one of our best players.

Secondly, I'm very happy to see Zetterberg emerge again from his injury. He looked phenomenal and like the NBC announcers said "He has his timing back"

Great to see.

Thirdly, Hasek played a lot better than the previous two games. He made a couple pressure saves and looked great.

Also, kudos to Tuzzi, like to see that physical force. Also another positive is that Datsuyk got on the scoreboard. Even if was just a chip in goal. Always good when he is scoring in the post season.

Go Wings!!
