Schneids_is_awesome 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 In especially today's game, I really thought that Markov played really well. Playing some real criticaly minutes and hitting a lot. I love it. Yea, he really seemed like he was out there every waking minute. I really like the guy, generally makes smart decisions and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. He quietly had a good series
clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 The cool thing is that Hank and Bert should only get better as they get more games. Cleary, Franzen and Flip have been great. Drapes has been good and Sammie had a very good game tonight. My only concern is D. What's the scoop with Lebda?
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Lilja is my f'ing hero. I love The Pain Train so much right now. I feel like we've come so far in our player-fan relationship.

Drapes has been good and Sammie had a very good game tonight. My only concern is D. What's the scoop with Lebda? FSN talked to Lebda during an intermission. Ledba said that he hoped (if a game 7 was needed), he may be ready. So I am thinking he would be ready for game 1. If not, Quincy did a great job filling in for him. Offsides 21 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 I thought Lebda played well and he's out now...hopefully he'll be back soon. I like his jump and intensity! Also...most underapreciated player on the Red Wings roster with a whopping...what...20 minutes of ice time...Jiri Hudler. Did so much with every minute he got! Don't even get me started on Flip...our young guys reign supreme!
Schneids_is_awesome 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Lilja is my f'ing hero. I love The Pain Train so much right now. I feel like we've come so far in our player-fan relationship. OMG, I am totally with you on that. During the regular season, I felt like everytime Lilja touched the puck I expected a turn over. Now, I am honestly comfortable with him in any situation. Perhaps, knowing that the pressure is off in terms of competing for a slot in the lineup is gone equalling a more relaxing Pain Train. The man has be wonderful, and I never thought I'd ever ever say that in a million years.
Guest chavo Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Cleary was definitely the difference maker in the series. He laid his body on the line every chance he got. By no means is he a big guy but he took on any of the hard hitting D- men of the flamers and came up clutch several times for them. Props to Fil as well. he is looking a lot more confident in his abilities and should blossom into a very good player in upcoming seasons. Negatives- I am new to this room, but have been a long time wings fan, so i dont really know how much samuelsson bashing goes on here...but he is the only wing that i actually hate. everything he does is stupid. He turns the puck over more than anyone, he tries to hit but he is too weak to cause any damage (Except on Iginla when he hit him for behind) i think the should scratch sammuelsson and dress hudler...but i am 100% sure they need to get that goof of the point in PP situations, that is outright freightful for me Anyways Go Wings ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! USAFWingedWheel 4 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 first of all, Lilly, what can i say, you played bigger then anyone on here expected, thank you....second, zetter, hasn't missed a step, a true superstar...third, datsyuk, nobody will f*** with him one on one or two, he is the king of puck...fourth, cleary, you are just plain and simple playing like an MVP...and finally, Kipper, you were amazing, the highlight reels will be full after this series.... i think thats it... Zion 93 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 MVP of the Series: Mikka Kipprusoff MVP for the Wings: Nicklas Lidstrom - had one bad game and 5 very good ones Honorable Mention: Daniel Cleary - all heart and EXACTLY what this team needs Notables: Andreas Lilja - REALLY, REALLY impressed. He played very smart, and certainly shut me up. Kyle Quincey - Are you SURE he hasn't been playing with us all year? Dominik Hasek - Made some key saves that shouldn't go unnoticed. Bob Lang - actually had a few DECENT moments. Todd Bertuzzi and Henrik Zetterberg - getting better every game. Almost 100 percent?
UKWING 8 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 hasek was great and all 7 defenseman were very good too. i was particularly impressed with shneider. as expected he put up some points but he played very well in his own end - he was physical and did not make too many mistakes. on offense the top line was good - excellent at times - and will only get better. the grind line was great - our most consistent line without a doubt. franzen, flip and huds were great and bert is improving. heck even lang and sammy played well in game 6. overall, it was just a great team effort - everyone contributed. the wings completely outplayed calgary - if it hadn't been for kipper it would have been a sweep. EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 I thought Datsyuk did a much better job than anyone thought it would, especially after the contract. Some goals, some assists and a couple of whopping hits on Phanuef where the Sneeze when down and Pavel stayed upright. What more could anyone ask for? I really thought Drapes/Maltby/Clearly line was fantastic. They were all heart every shift they were out there. Drapes was flying past the Flames, and Maltby and Clears were hitting everything in sight, pinballing off each player.
ColdWarrior 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 (edited) What has me excited is the depth of the team. If the top line is shut down, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines kick in some goals to make up for it. Finally it seems like we're firing on at least 7 of our 8 cylinders. And Hank & Bert aren't even playing at top form yet... so they should be getting better & we'll be at our full horsepower soon. Now, if we can only get Calds & Sammy to take it up 3 notches or so. Another reason I have a positive outlook... team identity. This series, with all of Calgary's aggressive & sometimes out-of-line play, has really bonded the Wings together as a unit. In game 5, a scrum formed around cleary, and this big hulking guy in a wings jersey forces his way in to fight back... who was it? #3. That's right. Lils, sticking up for Cleary. On a team where nobody seemed to stick up for anyone else over the regular season. That's a great sign to me. Also... watching this series I couldn't help but think that Cleary is becoming the new DMac. Hard working, some devastating hits, and still able to toss the biscuit in the cage. Franzen has also been a monster. A true Franzenstein. Our next-gen Homer. If they keep playing with this passion & physical play, get Hank & Bert back to full power, I think we've got a long post season ahead. Zion 93 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Agreed, and I can't believe I didn't praise Filppula. What a series! You're exactly right, the key word is DEPTH. A great team effort, and I hope the boys get a few days off and a few good practices. Glad Lebda thinks he'll be back soon. Here is a question: Is Kyle Quincey on the roster as a healthy scratch or did we call him up only because of Lebda's injury?
DraperFan MN 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 MVP of the Series: Mikka Kipprusoff I was hoping someone would say this. Kipper was AMAZING. Technically about as sound as they come. He was a steal for the Flames when they picked him up from the.....was it the Sharks?
ColdWarrior 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Quincey was called up... And you're right. How could I have forgotten Flip too? I was also happy with Rex's play. He didn't shy away from any contact, despite having some of Calgary's biggest roughing him up. He took a LOT of abuse during game 2 & didn't back down. All of the usual suspects were outstanding as well... Lids, Cheli, Dom, Malts & Drapes. I was glad to see too that Lang is potting in a few points now that he's with Bert. Bender 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 Dare I say it - by the end of this series, all of the Wings looked to be playing as a complete unit such as has not been seen in Detroit since the '02 championship. There are no bad lines. They are supporting each other all across the ice. If special teams are having a bad night, goaltending saves the day. On top of all that, they have done all this with a physical toughness that many said they couldn't possibly muster. I appreciate the point of this topic, but so far the results speak for themselves. The whole team deserves credit for this - the important thing is that nobody has been the goat and they were able to get 'er done when it mattered most. Gizmo 21 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 I had to go to bed after the 2nd last night, but I wanted to add that I think Samuelsson deserves some praise for Game 6. I noticed he had great take-aways right in front of our net and did a great job breaking up that one 2-1 situation.
tino59 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 No one's really talking about Markov. That guy is relentless along the boards! It was a great sight to watch seeing Markov make all their forwards think twice about chasing the puck along the boards. I actually thought Lilja was better from a pure defensive point (that is really weird to type) but Markov provided a huge physical spark.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 hasek was great and all 7 defenseman were very good too. i was particularly impressed with shneider. as expected he put up some points but he played very well in his own end - he was physical and did not make too many mistakes. I was actually least impressed with Schneider of all our Dmen. He was very physical and scored a few points, but he took a ton of boneheaded penalties. His seven minors are T-2nd in the playoffs. He also left his man open a couple of times for a goal against. I'm trying very hard to like Matt, but he still worries me out there.
Gizmo 21 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 No one's really talking about Markov.... Markov provided a huge physical spark.I agree he was very much a net positive, but if I'm not mistaken he did have one big "Ah, $#@&!!!" last night when he let Iggy move in front of the net unmolested for the sole Flames goal last night. dr_lobster 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2007 I was nervous at first, but it Lilja did well when he carried the puck into the zone a few times. It was good to see him step up and get involved...in the regular season he seemed passive at times.
